Can an iPad replace a laptop for work?

Is there anyone that can claim they use a tablet of any kind for more than surfing the web on their couch / bed and watching movies? Just curious.

I have an iPad and couldn't imagine trying to do even halfway serious work on it... it would drive me nuts, get a laptop.

1. Pay $20 to remote your iPad 2 into windows server.
2. Head down to Mardi Gras & Spring break with iPad's new, dual cameras.
3. ???
4. Profit!

This.

(actually crossed my mind for my trip to Mardi but I succumbed to just bringing the laptop w/ me)

Make sure to get the wireless keyboard and stand for ipad/keyboard and holster.

iPad sucks for work. You have to trick it into doing work related stuff. Get a macbook air 11 inch and don't be a retard.

I actually have. Taken my Galaxy Tab on trips and used it to work on. However, I seriously missed having a keyboard (which you can get).

The iPad is good but it's a toy, not a work machine.

It's an iPhone with a bigger screen. Do yourself a favour and get a netbook (or a macbook air if you have the cash). Just don't buy an Acer Aspire One like I was stupid enough to do, because it's underpowered even for just browsing the web.

If you have enough money to throw down on an iPad you should just do yourself the favor of getting a halfway decent PC laptop. Besides an iPad 2 being a waste of money, the iPad 3 is pretty well rumored to hit in the fall (with a quad core processor), and this (the iPad 2) sure look like a chump in a half a year.

No way. iPad and other tablets are poor on multitasking and productivity. It's more like a gadget on go where you get to "consume" way more than produce. Don't think your boss will like that.

What advantages does the mac air have over netbooks? I wanted something mobile for internet browsing, writing word documents, excel files, and email. The mac air seems a lot more expensive than most windows netbooks.

The macbook air isn't a netbook, It's a mini laptop...Just as powerful as a full sized laptop, just a lot smaller. And has a much better keyboard.
