Disaster Preparedness: Are you ready?

I think you are doing a lot of imagining. I'm more inclined to listen to people who have lived through something real. That thing that happened in Argentina is probably typical of the kind of collapse developed countries will see when financial systems finally cannot be propper up any longer. Other systems won't collapse immediately but they start breaking down. People try to go on with their lives for a while but as lawlessness increases they have to take increasingly extraordinary measures to survive. So like that guy in Argentina you start packing a gun but concealed because the police still try to operate and they'll arrest you if you are walking around with a rifle. Like he did you stomp on the accelerater when someone walks in front of his car to try to make you stop to rob you. And like that guy in Argentina said, you have to sleep sometimes and that's when the bad guys will sneak up on you. They might not get you the first time but eventually they probably will if you are on your own somewhere.

Exactly

For those of you living rural, you can set yourself up with some seismic sensors and other perimeter protection devices. A dog that doesn't like strangers and who barks at noises works wonders too. The average thug won't waltz onto your property then while you're sleeping.

And don't forget the good 'ol trusty fishing line. It's nearly invisible in the dark, and great for setting off traps.

Pro Tip:

Running your town's black market resource distribution center because you were a champ and hoarded resources prior to the fallout and running low on meat while your demand is increasing because everyone has already raided McDonalds? Chances are you've gotten attacked a few times for your supplies. Don't let opportunity pass you by though, those people are actually bringing supplies to you.

Setup a traffic funnel (hallways and roads are good) to your goods and dig out 8 - 10 feet deep about 2 feet from the entrance, about 6 foot long. Then, setup a hydraulic arm on each end of the hole you now have. This will control a collapsible floor that you could setup with sensors to trigger when the hydraulic arms give way, or just tie to a fishing line to pull a pin if you didn't pro-actively raid your hardware stores early on.

Now, I know what you're thinking, "How is this getting new supplies to charge people out of their precious valuables?"

  • You get whatever they decided they could take your hold with if they either die from the fall (heaven forbid) or you get it while they're unconscious later.
  • They're now out of your little society's eyes, so they aren't a threat anymore to your hold on power, which is good - but it also means they aren't available to tell your customers where their fresh meat is coming from.
  • Oh, and if you've amassed enough control in your area and they did survive the fall (Whew!), you now have a new fighter in your underground fight ring for free supplies for their family if they win, and maybe, just maybe a chance at freedom. Oh, and fresh meat to sell when if they die in the ring (feelsbadman).
So don't forget your fishing line, people.

Someone mentioned BB guns/pellet guns. They are a very wise investment for hunting small game, such as squirrels, grouse, and rabbits. They create nowhere near the amount of noise that a shotgun or a .22 report does, keeping both humans and other animals unaware of you. Ammo is dirt cheap and they have very good range. Learn about snares for squirrels and rabbits, and maybe for some water animals like beaver, muskrats, and otters. Stock up on some kind of seed, like sunflowers, so you can bait squirrels and survey new areas to see what kind of animal life you are working with.

Fishing gear and fishing has been mentioned a bit here. Fishing line and decent reels and rods can be had for under 25 bucks a set-up and they will work. While large game animals, like deer, will be exhausted in more populated forest regions, smaller pan fish will always be around, and streams in more mountainous areas, such as the Pacific Northwest and Montana, Idaho and Canada, will almost always hold fish. Usually, you have to exert much less time for fished protein than hunted protein. You can also ice fish in the dead of winter and chop holes or use a manual auger.

Trail cameras for perimeter surveillance are excellent, IF you have a power source for them.

Ghillie suits work until someone has thermal imaging equipment.

This guys got it down, I've spent a shitload of money on prepping and although I thought I had it all down - literally a year ago I was like "wtf, am I gonna shoot rabbits and birds with shotgun /223 or 9mm rounds (despite having tens of thousands of rounds)? Anyhow with that said, I bought 4 22LR rifles and over 20,000 rounds of 22LR bullets. I also bought one BB gun and about 5k rounds but ill work on stockpiling more of this. Although very cheap, this is a very good investment giving you had to shoot and not trap your own shit.

Yup, thats what I love my Gamo Silent cat for, at 1250 feet per second, it shoots like a .22 but is super quiet. I can shoot pennies in half with it, no problem.

Might have to get me a pellet gun.

What about a crossbow? Hard to get good with it?

You can become a proficient crossbow shooter(can kill a deer) in a day. However, there are two to three big mistakes made with crossbow purchases for hunting and survival scenarios: compound over recurve, heavy over light, and scoped over open sites(primarily survival implications).

Compound bows of any type have what are called cams, they are pulleys that amplify energy into the system. Unfortunately they are prone to problems over time and will render your weapon useless if there is an issue. In a SHTF scenario, you may not be able to fix it yourself. A recurve bow of any type is a straight limb. A recurve-crossbow is more accurate than any regular long or recurve bow, because the string that is pulled back and cocked is stabilized by the cocking/trigger mechanism.

People buy crossbows that are two heavy for hunting and walking, which then become too heavy to stabilize on a kill shot after said movement. You don't have to go expensive to get light. There is a bow named the Panzer V by Barnett. It should be under 4lbs and you can kill deer with it easily up to and around 40 yards. This bow should be around $150-175. Differences of 3-4 pounds make a huge difference when walking.

Most crossbows come with a scope or what appears to be a laser type red dot sight that is projected internally on a piece of glass. These have survival problems, as traditional glass scopes tend to fog and have issues in inclement weather, and red dots can become unreliable. Look into open sights for your recurve crossbow, and stock up on a few traditional recurve and long bows as well.

Good information

I don't even have enough food to feed me for the next two days in my house.

If disaster struck... not sure what I'd do.

Well today I just added this to my inventory =D

Beretta Px4 Storm, Full Size 9mm

MyBeretta.jpg

Beretta.jpg

Details:
The new Beretta Px4 Storm pistol is the most advanced expression of technological and aesthetic features in a semiautomatic sidearm. Built around a modular concept that a pistol can be adapted to different needs and modes of operations, without compromising on ergonomics and the renowned Beretta reliability and performance, the Px4 Storm emphasizes power, ease of handling, performance and reliability.
Manufactured in three calibers, the Px4 Storm uses an exclusive Beretta designed innovative locked-breech with a rotating barrel system, the strongest action to date.
The light yet durable frame employs modern thermoplastic technology through the use of technopolymer reinforced fiberglass. Modular structure, ergonomics and interchangeability of parts make the Px4 Storm the ideal firearm for law-enforcement use, as well as personal defense.
1. Accessory Rail: The frame of the Px4 Storm has an integral Picatinny MILSTD-1913 rail for rapid attachment of tactical lights and laser aiming devices.
2. Slide: The sides of the slide are smooth and offer snag-proof insertion and removal of the pistol from its holster. The front and rear serrations on the slide facilitate slide operation and safety control in both wet or dry conditions.

New Adjustable Sigths Kit

Other PX4 Accessories
3. Visible Automatic Firing Pin Block: The front part of the firing pin is blocked from any forward movement until the trigger is pulled completely back. The block is
located rearward, far away from the fouling and debris of the breech face. Since the block is visible, the user may ascertain its proper operation at any time. Even if the pistol falls and strikes the ground muzzle down, the firing pin will not strike the primer.
4. 3-Dot Sight System: Features a white ‘3-dot’ sight pattern for quick acquisition of the target. The rear sight is designed to provide a front projection so that, in
an emergency, the user may retract the slide single-handedly by pushing the rear sight against the edge of a table, door, etc.
5. Ambidextrous Safety (Type F): The ambidextrous safety lever, easily accessible by the thumb or a right or left handed shooter, is spring loaded so it’s either positively “on” or “off”. The safety lever also functions as the pistol’s decocking lever. When pushed down, the rear part of the firing pin (striker) is rotated out of alignment with the front part of the firing pin. (NOTE: Type C does not have an external safety/decocking lever). Additional hammer drop catch (half cock notch) prevents striking of the firing pin unit in the remote chance of unintentional hammer drop.
6. External Hammer Design: A traditional feature of Beretta pistols, this design provides the most energy to the firing pin, virtually eliminating the possibility of
misfires due to light primer strikes. Also provides an immediate visual and tactile indicator as to the cocked/uncocked status of the pistol.
7. Individual Size Grips: Pistol may be configured with small, medium or large backstraps to individually fit the hand of each shooter. The backstraps are checkered to ensure a firm grip in both wet or dry shooting conditions. Three backstraps included with every pistol.
8. Reversible Magazine Release: Multiple-sized, reversible magazine release buttons allow for customization to the individual’s hand size. Small size comes standard on the gun, while medium and large buttons are available as accessories and easy replacement. Each size may be positioned for right-handed or left-handed use.
9. Simple Field Stripping: Pistol is designed for extremely quick and simple field stripping. Disassembly latch does not remove from the gun, preventing accidental
dropping and loss. Reassembly is easy and accidental misassembly of parts is prevented by the distinctive design.
10. Light Technopolymer Frame: The light, yet durable, frame employs modern thermoplastic technology through the use of Corrosion resistant fiberglass reinforced polymer.
11. Barrrel: The Px4’s unique rotating barrel and locking system dissipates recoil energy radially, reducing felt recoil and muzzle rise. This is the strongest Beretta pistol action. Chrome lined barrels provide extreme corrosion resistance, as well as ease of cleaning. Barrels also feature a deeply recessed combat muzzle crown to protect the rifling. (NOTE: Sub-Compact models feature tilt-barrel locking system and stainless steel construction).

And I have a couple boxes of these hollow points

If I was you, I'd replace most of it with higher quality stuff...or other stuff you would need. And I would buy a sharpener...it won't hold an edge for very long with any real work.

Crazy, another "zombie attack". These bath salts are crazy. Who the fuck would use that shit knowing it might make you think your a zombie. Hopefully no one weaponizes this shit lol.

Another zombie attack - New York mom on 'Bath Salts' attacks her three-year-old

A New York woman, allegedly high on “bath salts”, was killed after police tasered her. Onlookers photographed Pamela McCarthy, who was attacking her three-year-old son.

The 35-year-old went into cardiac arrest after a run in with state troopers outside her apartment in Munnsville on Tuesday. The police were called to the scene at 7.45pm with reports that McCarthy was punching and choking her toddler and trying to strangle her pit-bull. A neighbor then photographed her running towards her terrified son, who sought refuge with his father, Jason Williams.

McCarthy’s attack is just one in a spate of violent incidents reported across the United States involving the drugs “bath salts”, a synthetic drug, known as “the new LSD”.

Last month, Rudy Eugene, who was believed to be on “bath salts” chewed off homeless man, Ronald Poppo’s face, in Miami. In Louisiana, Carl Jacquneaux also bit off a piece of his neighbor’s cheek. Earlier this week a North Miami man stripped naked and exposed himself to a three-year-old girl while on the drug.

In fact these attacks, thought to be the blame of this legal drug, are becoming so prevalent that the media is now labeling them under the term “Zombie Apocalypse”.

A neighbor who witnessed McCarthy’s attack told NewsChannel 9 WSYR “She was... just running back and forth around the street and she got a hold of one of her dogs and she was rolling around on the ground with her legs wrapped around it - she was strangling the dog.”

Another said: 'She was definitely on something. Who does that?'

When the police arrived McCarthy was described as “violently combative” and growled at the police, and even tried to bite one of the officers.

State trooper Christopher Budlong tried to subdue her using pepper spray, but it had no effect. He then used a taser on the woman but was unable to handcuff her. She was then taken into custody and later went into cardiac arrest.

Her boyfriend Williams said she had a history of drug abuse but he was shocked by her behavior. Their son luckily escaped the attack with minor injuries and is now in the custody of William’s mother.

He said, “I told her mom, "She needs help'," Williams told WSYR. 'Everyone says to get rid of her because I tell all mean stories. I got nothing good to say. I love her…love her to death…then I seen that.”
