Does Anyone Else Suck At Interviews As Much As I Do?

I walk in feeling confident, and after 5 minutes I have clammy hands and dry mouth. Add to this, the anxiety in me causes me to think I'm staring down the interviewer. Eye to eye contact becomes almost unbearable.

Sound familiar to anyone?

How does one overcome this other than to go on more interviews?

I've never had any issues with interviews.

Then again the only interviews I've ever been in are with me as the potential employer.

More exposure is the best way to decrease anxiety because the more times you expose yourself to uncomfortable situations such as interviews, the less power that these uncomfortable, learned emotions have over you.

Hello friend,

You now have interview for fiverr gig?

Good luck bro

The real question is, does anyone literally suck at interviews as much as you do?

I am very good at interviews, What I do is drink Gatorade to hydrate myself just incase the interview takes longer than usual, it helps with dry mouth IMO, or hydration water, does the trick..

I find going to interviews completely strung out helps a lot.

Roleplay, roleplay, roleplay.

I bring this up with people all the time, and they stop wanting help. For whatever reason, people are more scared of/intimidated by/disinterested in practicing and trying to get better than they are of failing.

If you want someone to roleplay some interviews with, PM me your skype.

Yeah pretty much what guerilla said. You need practice, you need to make a subconscious competent effort, which right now you're not able to do on at a conscious level. You sit there and your senses jam, you're not the only one this happens to because this is new territory and it's not something you're familiar with. Other than that, rip a few shots next time and maybe that will help you loosen up.

I had an interview where I insisted on being paid half what they were trying to pay me, recently, lol I don't feel like I'm worth what they were offering and I felt like they thought I was more experienced than I am.

Then after meeting them at their office I didn't hear anything from them for a week and was having all this self doubt, embarrassed thinking I made an idiot of myself, thinking they were probably laughing at the code I gave them for the first project. But low and behold they called and gave me more work @$55/hr. Which for me is really good, I'm on chronic opiates and half disabled, dropped out of college, etc.

I am great at interviews, I always got the job, however I suck at holding presentations, which I think is far worse.

Don't think of yourself in such a negative light... sounds like you have the skills, and know what you are doing. Now you need to think more of yourself, and build that confidence!

Try to find out what type of interview style the company uses. For example, my company uses behavioral style interview process. No matter what position you interview for within the company, you will be interviewed based on that style. Study how interviews based on that style work. Put an ad on Craigslist for a Human Resource manager versed in that interview style to conduct mock interviews. Conduct mock interviews with multiple Human Resource managers until you have a comfort level.

Joining Toastmasters International will help with that. My friend does presentations so well that when she mentioned it to the CEO that Toastmasters was the reason, he sponsored a chapter for the company.
