Well, somebody had to do it.................

@SeoMike

I would suggest good old fashioned walking. It's something you can start out with at a moderate pace and pick up the pace as your body gets more limber and you start losing weight. That and whatever your eating, continue eating, but cut the portion size in half. You'll start dropping pounds fast. Without the pain in the ass (and stomach) of dieting.

You know, my experience as a (previously) pregnant woman gave me great insight into what it feels like to carry around a bunch of extra weight and what it does to the body. Including the baby, the fluids, the placenta and the extra fat, in 9 months my body was carrying around an extra 50 lbs. The havoc that reeks on a body is phenomenal. When I was stationary, I breathed like I was trying to run a marathon. My heart would be pounding 3 times faster than it normally does (which when your stationary is quite startling) When I would lay in bed I could HEAR my blood pounding trying to get through all of my body fast enough. Walking was painful. My back hurt. OMG my knees felt like they were going to pop everytime I sat down. All I could think about was this is what extremely overweight people feel like all the time. And then suddenly it was gone. Literally overnight my knees felt almost 100% whole again. I could lay in bed without weezing. I could get up and down at a normal speed again and not feel like I just broke my body.

My point is because it happened from one extreme to the other for me (people that are over weight don't lose 20 pounds in 3 days) I was able to really see how much it affected my body. I mean you hear about it constantly: overweight people are at high risk for heart problems, diabetes, joint problems, back problems. But to go from extreme pain to extreme relief so quickly it really makes you realize just how much better it is to be a healthy weight.

LoLs.

I'm not in good shape by any means, it's been years since I stepped into a gym. I mostly get up, sit down behind the computer until I'm tired, get up and go back to bed. I drink like a fish and smoke copious amounts of weed. I'm 36.

"Hi Fatbat..."

My one saving grace (a benefit that others have pointed out) is that I eat very well. Fresh fruits and veggies, lean cuts of meat, soups, salads, stews, etc. that I prepare myself makes a huge difference. I hardly ever eat processed or fast food. I do McRaunchies or BK once a year at the most, and that's as a last resort caught out on the road in a foreign land.

Eat well and your body will thank you.

I do need to start doing more physical activity though, but I really do detest the gym. I like participating in sports or other activities where you don't perceive it as being exercise. Road hockey and snowboarding come to mind.

Here's one for you though. If you're any kind of history buff or have a fascination with treasure, buy yourself a metal detector. I imagine there's a few of you bastards laughing out there right now but I kid you not. You spend a day swinging a metal detector and stopping every few meters to dig a hole (doing a squat each time) and you will be feeling it the next day. Over a 4 or 5 hour session you probably do 100 squats and dig 100 holes.

HIIT would kill him

PM me if you have questions or want help.

I've worked with people to help them lose 40 lbs. in less than 12 months (healthily and safely) and they weren't even obese.

I'm big into powerlifting, but knowledgeable about nutrition/diet/exercise as a whole. I work with NCAA sports teams.

If you drink that much coffee, i guess you are not sleeping that well, right?

not enough sleep affect your weight a lot

I can vouch for that. I'm carrying more than a few extra pounds after my second baby, and I know that I'd be able to get back on the exercise bandwagon if I could get more than 4-6 hours of sleep a night. A few more months most likely.

I have a treadmill that I used to spend almost an hour a day on. (Before kids.) I joined the Y (childcare, don'tcha know) and got to try the elliptical machines over the summer last year. I'm not built for running, so I do a steep incline and powerwalk on the treadmill. I pumped up the incline on the elliptical and can safely say that it almost kicked my ass (but then there is plenty to kick!) LOL

It does not do all the work for you. :)

I can also vouch for this. I gained 50 with my first and 70 with my second. After the first I dropped 40 of the 50 pounds in about 3 weeks - close to 30 in a matter of days. With the second, I dropped almost 50 pounds in a matter of weeks after losing 40 in a about 5 days and got stuck. (I had huge amounts of water weight with each.) Having gone up and down so much in just under three years, I know exactly what every pound feels like and I can also tell you exactly how much I have to lose to fit into each item in my closet again. I literally have a full wardrobe in four different sizes - not counting maternity.

After the first, I was able to get within 5 pounds of my original weight and felt pretty good - healthy, etc... After my second, the strain of having two and working every second I'm not mothering them is horrible. I'm still surviving on Diet Coke, Diet Dr. Pepper and whatever crap I can shove in my mouth before the youngest knocks over the dog water again.

I'll be back on the wagon soon enough once everyone is sleeping through the night and I can find time to exercise with a three-year-old and toddler in tow. But this thread is helping to remind me of the fit and healthy girl I used to be. *cry*

I seems to me that when chicks are pregnant their boobs get really big too. I don't think it's an illusion. Can you vouch for this? Please?

Also, do pregnant chicks wear black spandex or am I just seeing fat chicks who I think are pregnant wearing black spandex? Especially in airports.

As one of my favorite parenting author says, the Titty Fairy comes to visit pretty early on in pregnancy. Boobs get bigger and then the waist gets thicker. The bump only comes after your ass gets too big for your pants anyway. :)

Just because I don't want you to jizz in your pants over pregger boobs, I should also tell you that boobs are like balloons. They swell up prettily while pregnant and even more so while nursing. Then, they deflate...and I compare them to a balloon deliberately. (pause for mental picture to form.)

Pregnant women like wearing spandex because it's comfy. That belly makes pants tricky - especially while sitting for long stretches of time. This might be why you see so many pairs at the airport. But then again, it might be that the holidays make everyone more comfortable in black spandex pants...as I adjust my own. :p

You had me at "nursing"

Sorry I never read everyone responses, in case someone already covered this.

You need to burn more calories than you take in, on a daily basis.

If you are over the age of 30, chances are your metabolism is slowing down.

In this case you need to speed it up.

You'll need to eat 4 - 5 smaller meals a day, instead of 1 or 2 large ones (which the body will store as fat, as it is waiting for you to feed it again).

Make your meals small calorie wise (vegitables are great low calorie meal filler) and combine that with atleast 20 minutes of workout.

For the workout. Alternate 1 day cardio, 1 day weights for 6 days a week. Take one day off for the body to heal.

3500 calories = 1 pound of weight

So, it's all math. eat 1500 calories in a day, 20 minutes of workout combined with your average burning from just walking around and living - 250 - 500 calories burned. You can potentially lose 20 pounds a month with this formula.

For "ChairAss" -- you need to add doing "squats" to your workout regime.

anyhoo /2 cents - good luck.

Really doing AM fulltime you should be in better shape than a fulltime job for the man. When I was doing AM fulltime at home I was in pretty good shape.

When I got up in the morning I did my exercise everyday religiously before my shower. About 45 minutes of biking, cardio, stretching, and light weight lifting. Then shit, shower and a shave.

Once its a habit it is soo much easier to do. I would miss a few times a week for other reasons or weird deadlines.

And go ahead a have your bad vices for a while. Eventually you will want to stop doing them becuase they make exercising more difficult.

And I try to find some stairs nearby like a mountain or a park. Walk up and down those for 5 to 20 minutes and tell me you dont feel better after doing that for a week.

Dude if you want to lose weight, get into MMA. Hit your local mixed martial arts place and start training. Don't hit weights, don't run. Fight.

It's all about managing your levels. The key is obviously to boost your metobolism as almost everyone has said, but keep in mind although pills do help multi-meals a day (once again as everyone else has said) also helps.

Don't forget your water intake. I currently have a diet I try out every now and again to see if it still works, and so far it's at a 100% success rate if I stick to it and I lose between 20 and 25 lbs in a week, and speeds up the burning for the next 3 weeks. Chances are this is only for my body type though because a few friends have tried it to similar results but never as good. Meh, maybe they were cheating it ;)
