FCC and the Internet

uh, no. If you think an FCC takeover of the internet is a *good* thing, you're an idiot. This is the agency rabidly censoring TV.

This.

If a private company does something shitty, there are other options (which may or may not be difficult or impractical).

If the government does something shitty, there are no other options.

lol @ you both. :action-smiley-052:

I don't get it, if Comcast block filter your torrents, why not just use VPN? I've never got blocked like that so I can't feel your pain. But I'm sure as hell don't want the gov to sniff traffic around my traffic packets. Who knows, what if some idiot use my computer and search for something stupid...

Because that's no different than what people in China have to do. There's a much bigger chance that the ISPs in the U.S. will start doing this than the big bad Government, especially if people would actually read. The FCC is not planning a "takeover of the Internet", they are trying to put old regulations back in place that would allow them to say, "yo, Comcast, you can't filter the Internet". That's it.

The fact that some people's response is "build your own ISP" just proves they really have no idea how the Internet works or how all of the copper/fiber is routed/owned. Why do you think the majority of towns in the U.S. only have 1-2 broadband choices (if any at all)? It sure as hell isn't because companies don't want to come in and compete. It's because they can't.

I'm no fan of Government regulations, but Internet service is one thing that is not open and better off because of the free market, at least not right now. Anyone who thinks that it is, has no fucking clue what they are talking about.

I guess your the only mutherfucker on the webs (outside of dailyKOS fools, of course) that knows what your talking about? Wow your a fuckin very special person. I do believe that you know what will happen if government gets control. I do believe that you understand it would be a bad thing for our liberty and the freedom of the Internet(those of us that value that sort of thing). I also believe it fits your communist agenda.
