Because that's no different than what people in China have to do. There's a much bigger chance that the ISPs in the U.S. will start doing this than the big bad Government, especially if people would actually read. The FCC is not planning a "takeover of the Internet", they are trying to put old regulations back in place that would allow them to say, "yo, Comcast, you can't filter the Internet". That's it.
The fact that some people's response is "build your own ISP" just proves they really have no idea how the Internet works or how all of the copper/fiber is routed/owned. Why do you think the majority of towns in the U.S. only have 1-2 broadband choices (if any at all)? It sure as hell isn't because companies don't want to come in and compete. It's because they can't.
I'm no fan of Government regulations, but Internet service is one thing that is not open and better off because of the free market, at least not right now. Anyone who thinks that it is, has no fucking clue what they are talking about.
