Firearms thread - enthusiasts only please

This cheap little bastard is one of my favorites.

Kel Tec p-11 9mm. You can (could?) get one for around $200, I've put 1k+ rounds through it, accurate as hell, never had a problem.

Great deal for the money.

Springfield .40 xDM subcompact.

Big fan of that gun too.

Changed my carry gun (again).

Traded the Glock 27 to a buddy for a brand new Springfield XDs. Back to carrying a .45, which makes this fat kid very happy.

Just picked this up today

Bushmaster 6.8 spc upper with Multi Lower. What made this intriguing is that it came with ammo, will be picking up an additional 700 rds tomorrow. I'll be hunting for different caliber uppers this weekend....

What would you tough guys do if you received this in your mailbox?

OMG, that letter has enlightened me! I shall renounce all forms of firearms, hillbilly-ness and accept a life of intolerance and name calling.

Thank you for showing me the light.

Alright boys and girls - I need your assistance. (Mike, this is a continuation of our Skype conversation)

I would like to purchase a shotgun. Primary usage: Home defense. I'd eventually like to go shoot skeet and fowl, but it's not as much of a priority as is defending my house against people raping and pillaging after we have an 8.3 earthquake in SoCal.

Today I was going to put a deposit down on an Remington 870 (they call it "tactical" but whatever). Used by law enforcement, American brand, can't go wrong... But then, the guy at the store turned me onto this: Mossberg & Sons | JM Pro (Jerry Miculek Series)

The attractive features: Longer barrel, holds 10 rounds, and is semi-auto.

He said, "If you're going to buy a shotgun, instead of buying two - 1 for home defense, and another later on to shoot skeet or take in the field, just get one that does both."

Thoughts on shotguns?

Hire someone from /r/shittywatercolors/ to do a painting of Jesus firing two assault rifles with an NRA baseball hat? Possibly with said lunatic in the background high fiving Jesus while wearing a hockey mask?

What's your price range? Shotguns can go very very high for something top of the range, but you probably don't want that.

I'd avoid semi auto shotguns for 'planned' shooting, probably better to go with a side by side/over & under, partially just for the safety aspect. Also, a semi auto is probably gonna stop you from getting better, as you no longer only have 2 shots to hit, you have 10.

I wouldn't ever, ever suggest a semi-auto.

Why?

They don't work with every type of ammo. You have to be EXTREMELY careful as to what you use, use the wrong type and the gun will immediately jam and be useless.

Pumps on the otherhand will work with nearly everything you feed them.

If you want capacity, get some aguila mini-slugs. Plenty of power (68 caliber 1/2oz piece of lead traveling at 1200fps) but nearly doubles the capacity of your shotgun. You can extend a 870 tube out pretty far, so with the mini slugs you should be around 15 round capacity or so. Some shotguns work well with em, some require some work. I've used them in my Mossberg 500 with absolutely incredible results.

A 24 inch barrel is way too long to maneuver inside a house. Any long rifle is hard enough, but add 6 inches to the barrel and you have an issue.

I own a Mossberg .500 20 gauge, pistol grip, short barrel, adjustable stock. I love this piece. I really like the visible safety and how I can get through the house with it. Wife can shoot it as well.

Before people start flipping over the fact that it's a 20g. The 20g is far more efficient of a round than 12g. (Most of the bang, a lot less recoil). Perfect for multiple shots and wife usage.

Gotta disagree on the semi-auto. I don't have one yet, but fire a Saiga 12g on the regular. We can put just about anything through it. If a lighter recoil load isn't ejecting properly, just adjust the gas system. Once I can find one within reason, I will be replacing by HD shottie with a Saiga 12.
