Get a Kindle or Ebook Reader!

I'm still waiting because the Kindle is probably (hopefully?) going to drop in price soon to the low price of freefor Prime members. I also don't like having to convert all my books from .epub to .mobi and do not know how much better the pdf support is than say on a Nook.

Also there are so many tablets coming out that I can also read on, I just want to wait a few more months to see what else happens. Reading on an LCD doesn't bother me, but then again having a dedicated device solely for reading would be worth it given how much I read and then a tablet for watching porn when I take dumps.

Depends on what you specifically need it for.

Some people want to use their ebook reader to surf the net, play music AND video, and check their emails etc. (Jacking off while reading Harry Potter, why not?)

But for me, an ebook reader is an ebook reader, I wanna read some fucking books using e-link tech (nice and crisp). Nothing more, nothing less.

Phew... the Kobo and Sony readers Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

I'd rather read off a freaking clay tablet.

Do yourself a huge favor and pick up a real reader: The Kindle.

You'll thank me later.

Me too. -It's just that the Amazon Library of downloads through wifi (don't bother with the 3G version) is friggin' awesome.

Imagine this: You're sitting on your crapper, reading something and it refers to another random book that you don't have on your ereader ATM. With a:

Kindle: You click the home button, store button, type in the name of the random book and click "download free trial." Boom, you're reading that other book.*

Nook: You can download it, if they have it in their pitiful store, but it'll likely cost you money then and there.

Sony/Kobo/other copycats: Go fuck yourself. :action-smiley-052: (No store exists in your eReader.)

*=Yeah, it costs something to read the whole book, but the free trials are sometimes 9/10ths of a book and hence I've downloaded 387 free trials of amazon books without every buying one yet. :P

Fuuuuuuuck it.... Anyone want to send me their aff link for a Kindle? I'll buy it through that.

PM me

I can see the appeal but some people prefer real physical objects they can hold, don't disappear when power does and don't stress your eyes if you feel like reading a 600 page book in one sitting.

I've had a Kindle 3 for about 6 months now and love it. I find it less stressful on the eyes, as I can control the font size easily. The background imitates paper, and is not like a bright computer screen. Also, it's easier to hold - there's no trying to keep the book open - and can be read easily while lying down on your back or your side, which is tedious with a physical book.

As for the power, my Kindle's battery lasts ~3 weeks reading several hours/day. And you can still read off it while its charging, and it takes only about 45 min to go from dead to 100% charged - then you're good for another 3 weeks.

-I just got that $60 official Kindle leather case for mine... LOVE the built-in light, it really evens out the lighting on the screen.

(And runs without batteries...)

I just picked up a kindle the other day, I love it but it is no replacement for holding a paperback.

I wound up trying both the nook and the kindle but I settled on the Nook Color. Pretty bad ass by the time you root it and put honeycomb on it. I just didn't like the idea of all the hassle converting books and having no back-light. I am definitely sold on it mainly because of the extra flexibility it provides over the kindle.

^ Backlit = NOT e-Ink.

Fuckabunchadat. I like using my eyes, thank you.

Plus your store is pitiful! I couldn't find very common books on the nook store...

The e ink was cool but for me I find I read alot in low light areas so it just made more sense for me. As to the store you may be right but I haven't bought anything from it so I honestly have no idea whats there or not but I haven't found any issues finding exactly what I was looking for to read so not sure how big of a deal that is. I think its a personal decision that someone needs to make based off of what there going to do with it.

Love my Kindle 3. I read in landscape orientation, for whoever mentioned no rotation; you can flip text all four ways.

I've got more books on my hard drive than I'll ever be able to read in my lifetime. Now I can ebay a bunch of my books and sell some of my 13 bookcases and get some room back.

Kindle has become one of those "I can't live without" items especially with the PDF Conversion trick picked up in this thread. I've probably read about 30 books since learning that trick 2 months ago.

alright this thread got me, I always though I would think the kindle was stupid and I wouldn't like it, but I was inspired to borrow my gf's kindle to see how I would like it. I've had it for a little over 24 hrs and have already finished 2 books and probably going to buy my own tomorrow.

I have a good smarthphone, samsung galaxy s II and i use it also for ebooks. It has a big screen for smartphones.

If I have PDFs from my university I want to read on the kindle, would that work? I read some reviews on Amazon and they say reading a PDF on the kindle kind of sucks because of the small display (6 inches) and the bad zoom options.

Man I been had kindles since the first one. For all you guys downloading books I highly recommend calibre (its free) it will convert any and all ebook types to mobi's for the kindle. It also allows you to sync libraries/books to and from the kindle. Its the best thing I have for my kindle.

I like how people who've obviously never used an iPad keep assuming it's worse I've read on it for many hours a day with no fucking glare or eye strain or any of those problems I suppose if you want to read outside in the sun then yeah maybe but it's fucking hot outside so I minimize my time out there.
