On the firing line
Dollars for HD Losers - WSJ.com

Wal-Mart Stores is offering refunds for HD DVD players purchased on or after Nov. 1. To qualify, customers must return the players by April 30 and have a receipt in hand. Original packaging isn't required.

Meanwhile, Best Buy is giving $50 gift cards to customers who bought an HD DVD player or an HD DVD unit for a Microsoft Xbox 360 videogame system anytime before Feb. 23. Gift-card recipients can keep their HD DVD units.

I imagine goood PR. They aren't losing much if its in-store credit. Also it's another reason to get you to come tot he store.

I got my dad one from Costco for 280 bucks during Christmas time. Now it is going for 80. Thank god for Costco's 90 return policy on all electronics. No restocking fee either :)

My brother got an HD-DVD extension pack for XBOX 360... wonder if that qualifies.
It says so right in the first post.

Personally, I'd keep any HD-DVD stuff that you've got. HD-DVD's are for sale CEHAP now, and there are some good movies out there. It can't hurt to have 'em anyway :)

I got my player for $100 from Wal Mart, and I've been picking up free or dirt cheap HD-DVDs. It'll do until I can pick up a Blu Ray player around $100.
