Hey all,

A lot of SEOs emphasize the need for getting a good portion of Brand anchored and URL anchored links in your backlink profile. Just wanted ask a few questions and get a few opinions on this...

1) What sort of percentage of links do you like to have as Brand/URL anchored?

2) What type of link building methods (e.g. directories, articles etc) do you think are particular good for building brand/URL anchored links?

I’ve heard a few SEOs who I respect as really knowing their shit say that good Brand/URL anchored links can really protect a site from potential filters etc. I’ve also noticed a lot of sites in tough niches with high percentages of these type of links – sometimes up to 80% of their profiles...

Absolutely. Whenever I do any linkbuilding I always make sure at least one of the anchor texts provided I use is either URL of the page, the name (or domain) of the site, and occasionally the title of the page I'm trying to rank.

As to URL anchored links, I let scrapebox do that by accident. If you do a good sized blast to your site (50K+) a decent amount of those will mess up for one reason or another, and instead of using your specified anchor text will use your URL.
