A movie, a song, or a program is not an idea. It's something that someone poured money, blood, sweat, and tears into.
I'm actually a published author, so I might understand something about this concept. It took me a while to accept this argument myself, but in the long view, there is more fairness in the world if Intellectual Property is not a "Right." You build a far more stable and happy society if physical things are property but ideas can be copied freely.
Again, IP is a new thing to humanity. An unfair thing that gives the state more power to wield over everyone so that monopolies can be maintained.
Curiously, it only came about after the formation of permanent corporations... Hmm, I wonder why?
Check out
Mises IP page of that same wiki for lots of general arguments.
That's his choice. He created the content.
If another content creator decided they didn't want to give away their creation for free, that's their right too.
Choices ARE rights. Ideas are not. Concepts are not... These were never Property until the 19th century, either.
The state has nothing to do with it. Property is property, whether it's a house someone built, or a movie someone directed, or a piece of software somebody created.
Wrong. Concepts are really just natural discoveries that could have been discovered by someone else under similar circumstances. It's not the same thing at all as someone's property that they've made or bought.
Man, was I satisfied when those pathetic, weaselly Euro-weenies went to jail for stealing content and pretending they were doing something noble. One of those Swedish fags even called himself a martyr.
How like you to delight in the torture of others, especially when they are just standing up for something they believe in.
Did you take delight in the Inquisition too?
They'll probably just ban the sale of the machines or the material eventually.
This is something I could see them trying, but alas, it is certain to fail.
First of all, the machines are 99% to the point where they can replicate THEMSELVES. So the thousands of people who own makerbots now could print out makerbots for their friends.
Secondly, there is already a design in the works for a recycler, so you can make the raw materials out of old items you have around your house just by throwing it in a little chipper-shredder that makes more 3D printer materials.
...And of course those recyclers will be printable too in time.
BTW, I just wrote a post about
DEFCAD on Bitcoinfinger.
