When I saw it this morning I thought it was some kind of glitch. Anyway, my first thoughts on this:
1.) Ads popping up like crazy. More ads, better chance user will click an ad --> more monies for G
2.) If you don't rank in top 3 you don't exist. As you type your search query you are watching top results popping up. They either catch your attention or not. If not you continue typing or refine your query. I think much less people are going to hit enter and scroll through the results.
3.) Better start optimizing for suggested keywords.

one thing i noticed... if you optimized for non plurals of keywords on your site, like for instance contact lens instead of lenses, your screwed. i got a couple sites optimized for the word case instead of cases. im gonna have to update that shit right now lol.
I've used the search for the last day, off and on... without being logged into gmail.

This is spot on. At the end of the day though the search results aren't altered as far as I can tell as long as the entire search phrase is entered in. It's more of a gimmick if anything, but there are possibly going to be some changes in SEO work. If a user enters part of a search key that you have optimized a site for they may be distracted by other sites before yours has a chance to show up. If that is indeed the case there must be a way to focus on benefiting from these user distractions. Testing and verifying this must will prove difficult.

Has had the same effect for me. Or atleast something has had that effect for me over the last 2 days....
This came out on the 8th USA time.
On my sites I am seeing very little change SEO or PPC wise. Impressions might be up slightly but so close I am not even sure.
So annoying. Its like if you are trying to explain something complicated and someone is trying to finish your sentences and getting it wrong, making you forget what you were saying in the first place.
I predict they end up modifying it to only kick in after a pause of x time, which seems useful if you are trying to remember a name, title, etc.

I'm not impressed at all and here's why.
I have a 3 keyword exact match domain that is #1 in Google but since yesterday's change, it comes up as #3 even if you type in the exact fucking phrase. Of course, if you hit enter then my site displays as number #1 but as the old man in the video said "I didn't even have to hit the enter key"
My traffic dropped by 75% on this site yesterday. It was making $4-5 a day in Adsense, yesterday 53c (1 click).

It's just one example mate. I know you're baller and all that.. shit belongs in the toilet, don't bring it to me in your hand.
The effect this is having on me seems to be that I'm losing some traffic because I have optimized for several close variations of the same keywords, but with Google Instant it automatically jumps to one of those variations...usually the highest competition one.
Say I optimize for red spicy pickle and red spicy pickles (the plural form being higher competition) and I'm ranking better for red spicy pickle, I get screwed because it automatically jumps to results for red spicy pickles. So the optimization I did for the singular version is partly wasted, and I have to optimize more for the other variation.
Not the end of the world, but I won't be taking the week off to go bang bitches on the beach like I wanted.

I think it is a great addition to their search engine... do not know how govt internet filters / net nanny styled apps will handle this stuff
