Hate Crime in NYC: "I'm gonna knock the fuck out the next white person I see"

Hate crime happened in New York over the week-end, at Union Square. Some black dude went nutts and started attacking white people. He killed a 69 year old man.

Somehow the mass-media aren't covering this story like they should. It's a pure hate crime.

The reason I know is because a guy I worked with while I was living in NYC was one of the 2 guys that jumped in and tried to help the poor 69 year old man who is now brain-dead. He posted on Facebook this morning that he has broken ribs and teeth.

Broad daylight. Middle of Union Square, one of the busiest areas of Manhattan. It's sad that only 2 people jumped in and tried to help the poor old man. Pussified society.

The thing is they shouldn't, at all. I know they do, but only with white on black hate crime and therefore "should cover the opposite." But in the end it's all bullshit and pandering to one side or the other based on which skin color killed another skin color, just further facilitates racism.

You're point would be more than valid were we not living in a land that flipped the fuck out over Trayvon, a 100% media driven frenzy. Excuse me, a predictable 100% media driven frenzy.

Just as predictable is the media will underreport black on white violence. You haven't noticed this?

I agree with Mattseh, violence is bad no matter what. As a rule whites are better than blacks so they must by that same rule pretend that they do not notice the color of the person perpetrating the violence compared to the color of the person on the receiving end.

As with Casey Anthony, for whatever reason, that particular story received an abnormally high amount of national coverage. As noted on wickedfire, for the first few weeks it was mostly only local coverage.

The 2012 Sikh temple shooting and the white supremacist crime spree both had higher death tolls and fit the racial narrative, but only received a fraction of the coverage. (The temple shooting did have coverage the first day or so, but seemed to be quickly forgotten.)
 
This is sad, man. And the polarization of racial hatred intensifies the conflict. All senseless violence sucks no matter what color the person is.
 
The whole concept of hate crimes is stupid.

If it's an assault, it's an assault. If it's a murder, it's a murder. Trying to get into the frame of mind of the perpetrator is a pointless waste of time.

Moral principles require context of the situation. Like the old "do you steal medicine from an asshole doctor selling it at 10,000x cost to save your dying child's life, or do you not because stealing is bad."

And to the guys saying "why label it a hate crime" should consider the fact that the guy was carrying on about hating white people as a whole as he bashed the old guy's head loose.

Moral objectivism addresses whether stealing is an immoral act. It does not address whether you, as an individual, choose to steal.
 
I personally reject moral objectivism and believe more along the lines of meta-ethical moral relativism. Unfortunately, a lot of people hide behind moral relativism as a cover for doing horrible shit, so it gets a bad rap.

Yes, but the crime was bashing the guy's head in, not hating white people. If the guy was singing Christmas Carol's while he bashed his head in he should be punished the same, should he not?
