Heads Up Everyone...

You can charge...but it goes against what forums are really about. I would rather make registration mandatory to view the board. That way everyone who's already here, some who've been since day one, get to stay. And, it means a lot less unregistered "guests" rolling through the hood...unless you need the money

I guess you should probably change your user name to nocashflowrusty then.

Oh, I have a positive cashflow, no problem there. I just need to implement some of what I have seen HERE. Have other stuff that works ok so far.

No one seems to want to buy my "Two Digit Secret" ebook though... :)

Here's a line by paragraph take on Jon's persuasion techniques:

I've decided to go this route due to yet another crackdown by large social networking sites. FaceBook this time. Myspace last time. Government many times. Shady networks trying to spam our members behind our backs. Lame newbies trying to get something for nothing.
This is the old good guy/bad guy with a rescue attempt in there aka the hurt and rescue.

The bad guys are EVIL Facebook, bureaucratic Myspace, and secret Government. Oh yeh and those lame newbies trying to get something for nothing.

But don't be afraid.

Good guy Jon comes in for the rescue, ahhh. That makes me feel much better. BTW, can I pay for that? Heres my $25 for coming in and rescuing me from the evil networks!

I'm tired of it. I miss the old quality of WickedFire. I miss the bash-a-thons. I miss just shooting the shit and having fun.
Here we have a case of association: a positive association with the "good old WickedFire" that had quality, bash-a-thons and having fun. Awww, buy it is ok you can still have these old feelings if you pay $25 a month!

The paid area will be cheap too. Most likely a low monthly fee. $25 or less. Or maybe a one time annual recurring fee.

I want to get rid of our dependency on the large banner ads on top, and allow users to buy ad space here and use it for fun or to market their services for cheeeap.
Here we have the negotiating tactic of "empty promises" - that is promises with a certain wishy-washy qualifier such as "may be", "most likely" and vague statements.

Notice the absence of absolutes: never, always and so on.

Suggesting the possibility of cheaper marketing in the future, and buying ad space on the forum makes paying for the forum much easier to swallow. TAKE MY MONEY JON!!

Well I am done looking but I am sure there are a ton more in the post.

$25 is nothing! If you used 10% of the knowledge on this forum you would be making that each hour

My beef is why is the navigations still at the top? Newswire, Education etc.. Clearly thats a fallen dream of Jons..

Blackhat forum is doing prety well with a whopping $100 subscription fee.. Paid WF will result in quality content shared

Im for it

*yes, im back from the dead*

a fucking men. it used to be 80% of posts were by people with >100 posts. now its 80% of posts are by people with <50 posts.

admittedly, i was an annoying ass noob once too. but damn ive gotten over those days real quick.

Can I please just clarify one point please?

If I'm reading it correctly, as of the 1st of October signature links will only be allowed for paying members?

Think my auction might be dead. :(

Already refreshing to see snap decisions instituted...or with a short timeframe.
keeps life exciting?

So what are you doing with your guides then? Letting them in for free or locking them out until they pay the fee's?

Why not just wait and see.
If you've been contributing and are an asset, you should be recognized.

If not, just move elsewhere.

Pretty simple equation isn't it?

On the question of membership fees, imposing a subscription weeds out the weak and the freebie seekers.

more important than what you PAY, is what you will get out of it (eg. VALUE).

If you're paying $100/month and you use that info and make an extra $1,000/month from that, the $100 is cheap by comparison.

If you're paying $5/month and you get shit-all for it, it's still $5 down the drain...

Once subscription is levied, there're expectations of higher quality and I'm sure there should be more in the plans than just paying $$$ to have a private place to talk.

If there's additional content/software/tools or other useful shit coming with the subscription, the fees make sense...

I'll pay $100 a month if Jon writes one good post a month and by good post I don't mean the link bait on your blog. Money makers only.

bs idea.
this forums content was made by people who wanted to share their ideas to other ppl, even noobs,FOR FREE
you did made the premium section, good,i guess it didnt work out shit,so now you make the hole forum paid, dealing us a load of bullshit reasons so you can bank on the work of others.
its not about the money, its about principle.

I love that this website is free it has given me a great deal of sanity just being able to come here and read what others have to say. Thank you....

Hmmm...

I fear that I will pay the fee, because I like hanging out here, but I also fear there is really no compelling reason given for it (yet).

So far, it boils down to
  • privacy
  • weeding out the noobs
And I am not even all that bothered by the noobs.

Maybe an idea about prices will help people to make a decision.
Maybe more concrete content/advantages list.

And please, jon, no "planned features". :D
I only want to hear about content/advantages that are gonna be there the moment I sign up.

agree'd, i just got here and this seems kind of dirty. i wasn't here for the 'old' WF but i don't think charging people money to bring it back will work.

why would someone pay $ to be able to bash people, and most important why would i pay you $ so i can still view ads?

no bueno
