Hostgator fuck up AGAIN

I use site5 for some things, they don't offer a dedicated service so I can't completely rely on them, but they have always been very good to me. Before I needed dedicated servers I used to have 100% of my sites with site5 and I can honestly say I have never had a problem with them. Their servers are always up ( Site5 Server Status Report ), they reply to support tickets very fast, they have an actual phone number with people you can talk to (that speak english), and their prices are very reasonable.

I don't own site5, work there, or know anyone that does. My link to their site isn't an affiliate link either, I just really believe they are a great host and would recommend them to anyone looking for a quality host.

everyone pay attention. if you need discount hosting with quality service, follow John's advice.

Or sign up with HoreGator, and regret it for the next millenium as you try and get your credit card details cancelled, and your affiliate commissions paid, and your websites unbanned by Google.

I don't know why people still use Hostgator. They fucking blow and have for a long time... It doesn't matter if the OP was right or not, Hostgator has had problems with billing, customer service and downtime for a long time now.

Not to mention they don't fucking pay affiliates. They still owe me after more than a year... oh, but it's okay, they're "investigating" it. Whatever.

I wouldn't touch that company with a ten foot poll.

A Small Orange - Web Hosting, Software and more! is where it's at for me. Honest people, U.S. based customer service and the servers are fucking awesome. Oh, did I mention I only pay $5 a month to host all of my sites? (use "freefive" to get the first month free).

I've had my account there for a couple months and have been happy so far. My pages have been extremely quick to load since I switched which has helped me out quite a bit, and the one support ticket I sent was answered quickly.

I will agree that their affiliate program sucks though and doesn't function correctly

*sigh*..
i got the e-mail...
changed my pass, all good now.

Been using them a couple years. They get a lot better when you get a dedicated server.

I used to have a reseller account with HostGator a few years ago. All of the criticism above is consistent with my experience (both with the server and the customer support).

I upgraded to a dedicated server with HostGator. Over the course of several months, my experience (again, with the server and the support) was just as poor.

I left them and never looked back.

I'm with LiquidWeb today. Have been for several months. Great support (i.e. quick, intelligent responses that show they take responsibility for errors) and fantastic servers.

That said, everyone seems to have different experiences with HostGator. The same may be true of LiquidWeb.

Password changed, never received an email about it... Good thing I found this thread..

Edit: Got it changed, the whole thing is fishy... I'm changing hosts asap...

I've had a hostgator account since december 2006 with no real problems... tho, I just use them to fuck around with and for some of my very small sites that I don't want on my dedicated box... anything serious goes on my server...

I got the e-mail too... changed my password... it took me about 3 seconds I think... don't see what the big deal is...

Webferret: I think you have some anger issues my man, why not spend a day out on a lake fishing or reading, smoke a joint if its your thing.
Well, if the server was hacked, and our passwords were taken that is a huge deal. It's even worse that they don't come clean about it and tell users they need to change all their passwords. I thought he was flipping out over nothing until I realized it's only certain customers that have to do this, so it's not a new "security feature".

I'm not trying to stick up for them or anything, I've never used them personally, but how do you all know that their server was hacked? Shitty company's are able to tell the truth too..
Well it seems fishy that only a small % of users here received the email, and the entire idea of it is retarded. "Here's a randomly generated password, oh yeah you can change it if you want though, just don't change it to your old password." It just doesn't add up.

And it really pisses me off I didn't get the email. Had I not seen this thread I'd be shitting bricks, changing tons of passwords, etc.

My password was changed, but I didn't get an email. I chatted with someone and was told what happened and why, etc. When I asked what email address it would have gone to it was to an unknown sympatico address.

Other than this instance I have never had any problems with hostgator in over a year.

I use hostgator for some of my sites and I have never had a problem...yet.

Thanks for stressing me out, webferret. :P

Just picked up a reseller account a couple weeks ago. Just dropped it today.

3 outages this week alone. 2 support tickets with stupid answers. Didn't give them a chance to explain the third one.

I dropped hostgator a couple years ago as well and was giving them a second chance. I might not have been so critical other than that :) I was hacked, deleted, lost folders, etc.. with hostgator more than I can count. It was always "my fault".... the same stuff I had running with hostgator I have on other servers with zero issues.

I opened an account with them, following WF advice.
Now if these guys are not good, who are reliable people in this day and age with a good price?

HH

I've been using HG for a year now, and haven't had too many problems. For one account, my uptime was 99.87% last month, no password resets, and the server load has been around 0.8 / 2 since I got this account.

However, I had another account with them and cancelled 3 months ago because the server load on that one was climbing and they wouldn't move me. I always prepay 6-months in advance with PayPal so I didn't have to worry about them trying to continue billing me like they do with credit cards.

So I'm 50/50 on this.

i got a Mosso account about a month ago. Extremely good service for now. they have a 30 days test drive if you want.
