I was just grocery shopping, and I noticed that a particular brand of bottled fruit smoothie costs like $8 for a small bottle. I also noticed that it listed the ingredients on the back, so I just went around and grabbed everything that was listed. I ended up with:

-Apples
-Bananas
-Kiwi
-Mango
-Spinach
-Broccoli

Came home, tossed all that shit into a blender (plus a little apple juice), waited for a bit, and then tried to drink it. It tasted alright, but the texture was horrible. I couldn't even swallow it I was gagging so bad.

What do you guys put in yours? Maybe I just put too much of one ingredient in.

Buy some apple juice or pineapple juice and poor about a cup of it in the mix. Add a little ice too.

/I do see you added apple juice, but maybe not enough?

thin that shit holmes! lol!

spinach and broccoli are going to be pretty crazy... and apple juice over apples. really, i can only imagine the type of slurry that you tried choking down.

Strawberries (a little over a cup) + Banana + a few spoonfuls of Vanilla Yogurt + Ice = Yummy.

If you go with frozen strawberries you don't need the ice. Plus you can get a big bag from Costco/sam's club and it's way cheaper. Vanilla yogurt sounds like a good idea though.

3 ice cubes, ~5 frozen strawberries, ~10 frozen blueberries, 1 banana, ~1/4 cup of oats, few spoons of vanilla or plain lowfat yogurt, and a dash of pretty much any juice in the fridge. sometimes I will put baby spinach in there as well. this makes about 12 oz.

try a little hazelnut coffee creamer (liquid, not powdered)

get one of those Total Blenders (see Will It Blend? | Presented By Blendtec) those will seriously blend anything you put in it. My wife got one at costco for like $375 and thought she was crazy, but we use it all the time and is worth ever penny

I use it to make smoothies, ice cream, soup, and grind my coffee. thing is made of bullet proof plastic too

support is awesome too, had a small issue with mine a few weeks after I bought it and the asked for my address, shipped me out a brand new one no questions asked.

Really good smoothie recipe my wife and i have been using

1 cup fat free milk
1 cup fat free low sugar strawberry yogurt (I think its called light n Fit)
6 Strawberries
1 Bananna
2 Tbsp Peanut Butter
1 Cup Ice

Blend for 20 seconds

Good smoothies start with frozen fruit, whatever you like but it's better to keep it simple with 2 or 3 fruits IMO (you can better enjoy the flavors), plus plain or vanilla yogurt, and a bit of orange juice.

You can buy a bunch of fruit, spend an hour cutting it up and freezing it in individual portions, ready mixed in the combination you like. Toss a bag of fruit in the blender, a small tub of yogurt and a half a cup of juice, blend and you have a smoothie in a minute.

Handful of frozen strawberries
Half a banana
1 cup milk
1 scoop whey vanilla protein powder
Crushed ice

Tastes great and you get your protein as well

Day 2: GREAT SUCCESS

Ok, I think ice was the missing factor. Today's health smoothie included:

-1 Apple (Protip: Peel the apple first)
-1 Banana
-2 small broccolis
-Handful of spinach
-Ice
-Splash of orange juice

Tastes pretty good.

Ok, I think ice was the missing factor.

You don't need to add ice if you freeze the fruit first. The frozen fruit turns creamy when blended and is your thickener. Ice is also a thickener, but why just add frozen water?

Try:

strawberry, pineapple, banana
strawberry, kiwi, banana
strawberry, mango, banana

Go buy yourself a decent smoothies book at Amazon. Links don't want to work here. Search in books for smoothies and sort by relevance. There's a bunch of good ones on the first page.
