How is it that dumbasses can become wealthy?

I've heard of many dumbasses becoming wealthy, but then they blow their money and end up broke again (ie: famous athletes).

It's actually better to have a steady/moderate income stream and save a little bit... Rather then get rich and blow it all..

I get lucky every day in buisness. But that luck is directly attributable to being in a position to act on those opportunities. The longer you're in buisness the more lucky opportunities come up. I have access to deals you could never dream of getting. And I'm small time. The bigger you get the better the opportunities that come along. Having the cash to act is what makes those deals possible. I make my money in what most would call an obscure market.

So yes luck has something to do with it, but it's very very rare that it will make you a success.

In many ways, I think it's pretty comforting to know that I don't have to be smart to have a decent business. I2E had a quote that I thought was pretty nice about being about to shoulder the most risk. I can't find it right now, because I'm allegedly working and don't want to look for it.

Coming from banking I have met several wealthy people that lack common sense, basic budgeting skills, and still seem to become successful. . . I truly don't get it.

The only thought that seems to make sense is that they are so stupid that they seem to ignore things like risk which some smart people over analyze which allows them to edge out people who are genuinely smarter.

FYI, I don't think it takes a whole lot of brains to be successful, but some of the people I have come across are really really stupid.

Maybe they worship the God of wealth. The one the ELITES do not like to talk about in the news media.

It's not too late to start; studying magic to make "POSSIBILITIES BECOME POSSIBLE"

OR you can just continue to analyze and wonder why luck seem to favor the FEW.

Getting wealthy is all about luck ..luck ! Nothing else. If your fate is that you become wealthy , you become , no matter how dumb you are or how horrible brain you have .I believe this and have seen many live cases of this .

I think billionaire Vincent Viola is a good example.
He's the CEO of Virtu Financial, I figured the company must be highly sophisticated and very high tech. Smart brains and PHDs.

But on the other hand he is the owner of an NHL Team.. how stupid is that?

Really made me reflect about myself...

Getting wealthy is about chances. You can improve your chances by working hard and being persistent, but you can't improve your chances by taking risks.
I don't see much wrong about inaction, probably most successful people had long phases in their live where they did nothing, it's a different topic.

For every stupid one that is wealthy there are a lot more who did the same thing and are broke.

"How is it that dumbasses can become wealthy?"

While most spent their time going to college or learning how to be an employee, these guys more than likely had a burning fire to succeed. Being successful doesn't require you to be extraordinarily smart. Strategic persistence succeeds all else.

Very well said .:2gunsfiring_v1:

Also the belief that you have to be intelligent in business is a limiting belief. But let's say it's everything in business...

Then think of an average intelligence person that you know. Not too bright. Not too dumb. Just average. Now realize that over half the world is dumber than him. Assuming that intelligence is a prerequisite, then that individual has billions of people to sell his product to.

However, as everyone's already stated above, intelligence is not equated with "success". Here's a great quote on the topic:

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." - Calvin Coolidge

In this day in age, you call getting rich been lucky! Nothing could be further from the truth. What you call luck is actually, action taken by someone that was ready when the opportunity presented itself.

"Luck is what you use to describe the success of those you don't like"

In life, most times, you get what you expect. It's just true most people expect very little, and they get very little.

The very rich, if you get a chance to be around some of them, are not so different from the poor, they're just WIRED DIFFERENTLY. Most do not waste their time, and almost all are supremely organized in their daily activities.

Some of them also know about the laws of nature, and they try to abide by it. And contrary to what some might think, most have a disdain for organized religion, as they know it's just a way of PIMPING money from the poor.

John D. Rockefeller worth between $340 to $800 billion in 2014 dollars. Dude was also a huge Christian: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Titan-The-Life-John-Rockefeller/dp/1400077303/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1412221795&sr=8-2&keywords=titan"]Titan: The Life of John D. This thread's not about religion. Please keep your bullshit out of it.

you need luck sure, everybody needs luck, but some put themselves continously into positions where you can get lucky.
They also see a lucky donkey pass by and hop on (not sure if this is also a saying)
others let it pass, no matter how slow it gallops.

i also think people of average intelligence, who think they're smart, and the actual upper class of intelligence tend to think they're smarter then everyone.
-they fail because they start to big, think they can do it faster than most,
base their marketing on books and plans instead of trial and blow their whole budget on one campaign,
-they get the big shiny office and hire 10 people without profits because their business plan is so "smart"
-they tend to be snobby to customers, and inflexible to product or service changes
because their way is the smartest and the customer has to accept it
-they read forbes and enterpreneur and try to emulate big companies with healthy cash flow from their bank accounts

i could go on and on, i think smart people tend to over think things and make more dumb decisions
than your simple minded enterpreneur, who is flexible, cheap and puts the customer and his profits first.
you start small.
multiply a 1$ for a month each day and shit.

?

You buy a sports team for tax reasons, which I won't get into.

He was smart to do that.

The simple answer is that most self-made wealthy people aren't dumbasses, you're just a hater.
