so nobody hear has ever studied or is planning to study marketing in any capacity? Besides reading, etc.? I find that interesting..

well i'm a junior in high school but i've taken over a year of college classes. been taking all business classes and some marketing classes... also got an internship in the marketing sector for a bank, but i'm not sure getting a degree in marketing is the best route as you will usually end up in sales... or so i've heard..

my computer science degree has been good for my bottom line but what was a lot more valuable in college was straight up learning how to compete with people smarter than me.

haha nice, any tips there? I find kissing ass and being social can go a looong away...Especially in CS where the majority of people have poor social skills, if they have any at all.

@jackeyy, do you find it helpful with IM? I am a CS major but I am considering switching to business and doing a minor in CS instead. I am sick of taking classes with no chicks, it makes going to college completely pointless and unbearable IMO.

Studying accounting, might get my Chartered Accounting designation afterwards. I don't want to work in any 9-5 field, so I figured that this choice would probably give me a very solid understand of how to run a profitable business. Plus it gives me a backup plan in case shit ever hits the fan and I need to make money urgently.

Currently studying Business Administration... Not intending to join the 9-5 club just yet though, I'm doing this so I can learn some skills that can be used on my internet businesses. And if everything else fails, then I have a backup plan, 9-5 yikes.

shut up woman get on my horse

I guess I did/am doing it backwards....kinda. I went to college, started my senior year of high school actually. Had no clue what I wanted to major in or do with my life (still not too sure). So I just took classes. Most of them dealing with Politics or Computers/Technology. Everything from Political Theory to Cisco Router administration. Did that for 5 years. Been working the same shitty job for almost 6 years and just recently realized that I've got to do something now or I'm fucking doomed.

So I start classes again in March. I fairly certain I want to focus on a hard science (Chemistry, Physics, Mechanical Engineering...). But I lack the math, so I'm going to be focusing on getting that up to par before I resume pursuing a degree. I've always wanted to study the sciences, but never tried because I lacked the proper educations in math, but I decided once and for all I'm not going to settle. I had originally planned to get my degree in Political Science, then a Masters in International Affairs. And either go work in Law Enforcement or Intelligence (Army OCS).

But I'm always drawn back to the sciences. I've had a subscription to Scientific American for as long as I can remember. I got microscopes and chemistry sets instead of video games for Christmas. Fuck, I've got 8 college science text books on my shelves, and I've never taken the classes. I just read them for fun. I guess I'm just a big fucking nerd. But at the same time I carry a copy of the constitution around with me all the time. I have 4 copies of "Common Sense" by Thomas Paine (I loan them out to people who need enlightenment, but can never be without a copy for myself). I guess in the end my problem is that I have too many passions. Hopefully I'll get it right this time or at least get closer to figuring it out.

I know more college grads who are a complete idiots then I met in prison.

This is fact.

When I say idiot, I really mean ignorant to how the world truly works and how to get along in any type of economic situation. My observation is that it appears very educated people are the most closed minded and easily controlled people in the world. They buy whatever is written in a text book or a professor tells them as the gospel. The more educated the get, the less creative they become.

They buy into whatever the system sells them. They love labels like Democrat and Reuplican, Left and Right. They regularly engage in the consumption of whatever the crowd is consuming or should I say the "SHEEP."

College is for people who buy everything in life that is sold to them. Things like "you need a college education for a good job", "college is the only way to make a good living", and blah, blah, blah...... I know more unemployed college grads then I know employed high school drop outs.

They need someone to teach them what to do and can't learn it on their own. Everything taught in paid brick schools is mostly now obsolete. If you don't believe that, maybe your a$$ should take a visit to the unemployment offices of America right now and interview the millions of out of work and dumb college grads who can't even get a job at McDonald's because they are too smart.

I am not writing this to cut down college clones here on WF, I am just trying to save a poor kids creative brain from being eaten up and spit out into the world of unemployed college grads.

That is my humble, uncollege-educated, self-employed, living life good in Southern California as an ex-convict opinion.

I think the type of person you are describing is unfortunately, for the most part, just an average middle class american. I don't see any correlation between that and having gone to college. It's true a lot of people will go to college just because they are lame in the brain and don't know what the fuck else to do - i.e.: I'm sure everyone here has known a few book smart kids who can get straight A's but are just dumb as fuck when it comes to anything real. At the end of the day though a college education is a big advantage if you're looking to join the work force and not stay self employed. Some people will hustle and grind and make it and others will get jammed up in the rat race. College can definitely help the former and the latter are already fucked. My 2 cents.

Money is not the only reason for obtaining higher education. Higher education does help and people who bash them are simply ignorant because they think only measure of success in life is money. Money is very important, there is no question but good education helps in overall personality development. Now, more important question is, today's higher education is good or not and that is really a big question?

Barring few institutions, most of places providing higher education have gone to the route of making money. Their focus has changed from education to profit. They custom design different programs which do not help common folks but they advertise them heavily on net and off the net. Some of us make money through those education/online degree affiliate programs.

So, final answer YES - higher education is important, if you can achieve it. I am just not sure about today's places offering higher education.

Somebody mentioned "common sense", I think I am curious to read that book because I see it lacking day by day everyday. We are at least in US, becoming more and more materialistic society with complete lack of common sense with proliferation of laws promoting again degradation of common sense.

Jamx

FYI Jamx, money is like water, you need it to survive. Yes, Americans are materialistic, but have you seen the Japanese or Italians? This is a world wide problem, not just American. Higher education in certain areas is worthwhile if you want a "job" or degree, but most areas of our economy it has now become obsolete.

As I said above, go to a few unemployment centers here in the states to see how many people with degrees can't get jobs, then get back to me.

If America is getting too messed up for your tastes and you want to work for free, why dont you get your educated ass to North Korea and perform some slave misionary work or something. That way you can have no money, starve and help others with a smile on your broke face? Let's see how long you will be smiling?

I'm a student engaging in studies of Economics and Business Administration at the University of Texas at Austin. I'm a 3/4 time student, but only because I need these two classes to take my last three. I'm almost done with my degree and I must say that I find it very difficult to stay on top of my IM stuff. However, I would recommend that you talk to your Campaign or affiliate managers. They know a shit load of information and can help you make a few good decisions starting off. Good luck to you and God bless. oh, and for the record, I make $XX.XX/month with very little investment on my part. I'm just re investing earnings though and started about two months ago, so not totally experienced here. I've made most of my sales through advertising things I like to people I know through Social Medias. Good Luck once again.

Respectfully,
Tony Tovar

You make $xx.xx/month? You might as well be making nothing.

When I was a full time student, I was making a full time salary from IM with about 5-10 hours a week of work - if you can't stay on top of your marketing work, and you're making less than $100/month, you might just want to give it up for now. Either that, or do a better job of juggling work & school.

Nothing this! Its something, you know, the funny thing is I actually make XXX.XX now lol as of today!!! Sold a pair of tower racks for wake boarding and earned a XXX.XX commission a week or so ago and got paid today! lol. Anyways, I spend my time building websites and creating content for me. I dont think its a waist of time. I think a waist of time you having written that above comment.

Anyways, thought I'd share the good news. :D
