I had a goal of $30k USD in mind, but now that I've met it, don't think it's enough. I do the numbers, and I'm looking at probably $20k minimum (so $25k realistically) from the time I leave this house, until I'm in a long-term lease in another house. I'm thinking of waiting until at least $50k would be a better idea.
Why did this seem so much cheaper when I was younger? Were things just cheaper, or was I just making a lot more money then? Hell, at one time we had residences in three different countries, and were flying all over the place. Or do you just get more expensive as you get older? I can't remember any of our moves costing this much, that's for sure.
Anyway, for all you perpetual travellers, what do you ensure you have for cash-on-hand before you skip over and get setup in another country?
