How much money do you spend on groceries?

Where in Eastern Europe do you live? I'm in Prague and there's no way you're getting a meal for two for $5 and a pack of REAL Marlboro cigs for $2.

Ohhh, come on. $5 will get you a couple gyros at a subway station. :)

Or those huge sausage stands they have in Prague. They're all over the place downtown.

I probably average out between $40-50 a week. I'm generally only cooking for myself and I eat most meals in.

When it's in season, I usually buy my veggies and fruits from local farms roadside stands. It's almost always cheaper than buying it at the grocery store.

I also go in with a couple of friends once a year and we split a cow. Get that butchered and to the chest freezer it goes. Ultimately, that saves a little bit of money as well.

In all honesty, I spend way more every week on cigarettes and diet coke than i do food. It's sort of ridiculous. I should probably quit that shit at some point.

That's so badass, I'm trying to friend a local hunter for venison.

I've done that before too. I grew up hunting, but it was never really my favorite thing in the world. Now I don't have the time / I have better things to do at 4am on cold fall and winter mornings (like sleep). But I still love venison and many of my friends hunt. I usually buy up a bit of their stock after hunting season so I can have a little treat every now and then.

If you can find one that loves hunting, but isn't a huge fan of venison (rare I know), you might be able to get away with just paying for their tags and then the processing. I got lucky one year and that's what happened. Anymore though I usually just buy or get gifted some from friends.

Should've mentioned, it's about the same anywhere east of prague, especially balkans and ex soviet countries. don't even consider prague as part of eastern europe, that place is WAY too nice.

I think cost of living is the same or even lower than thailand, but you don't wanna be out here when winter comes round.

Seriously though if you're spending $10 on a glass of juice you need to do 1 of 2 things.

Make more money.
Buy smarter.

What does how much he makes have to do with it? Because a richer person would not stop to think it's costing $10.00 per glass? Of course they would, they are usually more calculated & good in math :)
Buying smarter, more cost effective that I agree with.

Apparently not everywhere, I'm in Latvia, and everything you've listed costs at least twice that.

About $500-$600mo for me, including smokes and energy drinks.

Edit: I dun goofed, Latvia is apparently Northern, not Eastern Europe, didn't even know that.

Dude, buy bulk. Undoubtedly you can find bulk suppliers that sell in your area. They wont bother for quantities less than 10kg (usually) so you buy once every 2 weeks or so. The next problem would be finding a spot to store all that cabbage/lettuce/oranges. Or just reduce your consumption of said juices.

No wonder you are getting everything so cheap. Include sexual favors in your cost evaluation please.

Me, about $120 a week. I hit the farmers market every Sunday and haggle the shit out of some, "farmers" aka hippies that have no fiscal sense.

Working for a consulting company and traveling 4 days a week saved me a ton in groceries/living expenses in general. $15 for breakfast, $25 for lunch, $55 for dinner ($65 if room service) was ridiculous looking back at it now. I guess it all evens out though because they basically own your life Mon-Thurs.

My girl does the shopping. But when I've gone to the farmers market here, we pay about $15 and have a weeks worth of fruits and vegetables. 3 Heads of lettuce are 500c ($1). A bag of small potatoes is $2.

In the $700 / month range for us. The kids are still small so they don't eat like mad yet. I'm sure the grocery bill will skyrocket in about 10 years when they're teenagers and try to eat me out of house and home.

I'm pretty strict on my diet and now avoid restaurants and cook stuff at home.

I recently got a juicer and, after looking at my budget, I realized that it costs me about $10 each time I make a glass of veggie juice.

This makes my monthly budget ~$700/month for groceries.

This sounds outrageous to me for some reason since I'm a single dude who lives by myself.

I guess I can frame it to myself that it is the cost of groceries and "health insurance."

About 600-700. No pre-made meals. I do often shop for the market (vs grocery stores). My wife cooks, but we go out on weekends for a meal - not included.

I go to Jamba Juice every day. What is this juicer you speak of? Do I have to chop up fruits or can I just drop them in there? Will the result be smoothie like?

Buy meat in bulk. Buy veg which costs probably £5 ($8) a week and some other crap. So, maybe $150 a month overall. And I eat a lot.. nothing processed either.

Pretty sure UK isn't cheap.. don't get how people spend so much.

I just make sure to buy whatever i can in bulk, and don't assume supermarkets are cheap.. they're not.

NYC should not count in this...

Me and my gf together, we spend on avg $600/mo. Now its closer to $850 with all of the produce and healthy "organic" crap for the meal plan/bulk up diet plan I'm on. And most of it gets Vitamixed and pure'd anyway.

I used to be super lazy and only use FreshDirect or WholeFoods, but I'm no longer a whore for that shit. I like the smaller gourmet shops.. But I am DEF still a whore for Dean & Deluca every so often, just can't beat their quality meats.
