How well trained are your dogs?

Are you honestly comparing yourself to your dogs? If you don't have full control over your dogs, who will?

I can't believe you're content with the fact that your dogs don't take orders from you.

Don't get me wrong, I love dogs, but I think there be stricter regulations for owning dogs. In fact I think there should be a license required, renewable yearly, and to get this license you need to show that your dog is well behaved, as well as provide some positive references from people in your neighborhood.

I've seen too many misbehaved dogs doing stupid shit like this and their "master" having zero control over them:

PITBULL DOG ATTACKS LIVE!! HD 2014 - YouTube

In fact I *almost* got attacked by 2 dogs while walking on the street late at night a few years ago. Thank god I got into my car across the street quick enough. They were running at me showing teeth and barking aggressively, their master was calling them but they wouldn't listen... I'm assuming they thought I was a threat cuz I was too close to their yard? Who the fuck knows, but I wasn't pissed at the dogs as much as I was pissed at their owner.
I agree with everything you said but, when watching those fucking idiots running after dog I would like to shot them dead. All of them. That dog on this movie wasn't aggressive, it was just fun for him. The guy who got bitten is just a moron who is using his leg as a dog toy. The other guy at 1.12 is trying to have conversation with the dog or something?... nice.

I had a dog that was trained to bring me cigs from another room (to my desk in different room). I had it from beginning and it was a very smart dog. Now I have one from the shelter that is about 7 years old, he was three years in shelter and one year in dog hotel. I got it around 5 months now and he already knows basic commands. Still a lot work to do but, it's a great dog.

Dogs are awesome, they are really mans best friend. But when it comes to training your dog that's all on the owner. I rescued a St Bernard 2 years ago and at first it was a bit of a nightmare because you could tell he was a little nervous but for the most part he was very well mannered. Now, he listens to me 95% of the time and the other 5% I let him do whatever he wants. Poop where ever he damn well pleases or/and bark at our rode neighbor. When we rescued him, we have heard that he has had a bad life before we took him in. Getting hit, starvation, he had a peace of tare in his foot that was mixed in his fur on his foot, and the worst part was that you could see his ribs throw his fur. Now, hes gained about 25 LBs, looks fantastic, and is by far the smartest dog I have ever had. Magnum is his name. so when it comes to deciding either if you want to take some classes or not just think about how it would benefit the dog and not necessary you. Dog got souls too people!:conehead:

You serious son?
You know dogs can swim right? I mean real dogs, like my dog (I'm not talking about those little creatures people have in hand bags...). "Stranger" can swim as well. Also we are not on a fucking ocean mate, it's just lazy day on a peaceful lake.

Do you have "rubber walls" in home?

I've watched a few of these "Cesar 911" episodes (they're available on Youtube if wanted), and I'm sorry, but that's just total marketing bullshit. I mean, kudos to the guy for turning his passion into a good dollar, but don't think some stranger can walk up to an aggressive pitbull, and have them calmed down and trained in 10 seconds. Sorry, just not going to happen.

I guess my dad loves this Cesar guy for some reason, and not sure why.

I've seen a few of the Dog Whisperer shows. They make him out to be like some kind of Dog god, but he can be pretty brutal to those animals. He kicked a dog in the side with his heel in at least two episodes. And, this is considered normal or humane? I get it how he's so great at understanding dogs, but since when is kicking an animal, even lightly in the ribs as you stand next to them a good thing? Possibly, he didn't realize the camera could see it from that angel. Still, kind of mean and uncalled for. It just puts the animal back in that fear state. I wonder what happens in those situations where he leaves the animal in the owner's care. Maybe the dog goes right back to bad habits without someone there to bully him around. You can't bully an animal and expect good results. If you don't love them, the dog can tell right off.

Yeah, I seen that episode, and been playing around with it myself. It actually works. And come on, I would hardly call that kicking them. It's a gentle tap, especially to a 30kg dog.

I don't kick them like that, but I do flick them in the head with my middle finger, and it seems to work great. They'll see a cat on the street or something, and be completely fixated by it, letting out a bark here and there. Quick flick on the head, and they snap right out of it.

Got a shih-poo about 6 weeks or so ago. Love the little guy. He's three and a half months old and three pounds, and should only get to four or five.

He learned "sit" in five minutes. Pad training is almost complete. Another round of shots next week and then he's all good to go on walks.

He knows his name now, does well in the crate when we aren't home, and sleeps in bed with us throughout the night. He sleeps most of the day. Great little guy, tons of love. The barking gets old, but he's just communicating so we deal with it.

This is the thing I'm debating right now. Before, they were always barking, and I just always thought "that's a dog being a dog", but no... that's not right. Then we moved into this new house, and they almost instantly shut up. Only then did I realize how stressful the previous two houses were on them -- constantly on guard 24x7, constantly feeling like they need to defend their home.

They're barking because they're scared, and feel like they need to defend their home / themselves. It's stressful on them. I never realized this myself until we moved into this new house, and they almost instantly became new dogs because of how little of traffic we have in front. I'm now in a new house, like this:

My dogs are 80% calmer than they used to be, and it wasn't until we moved here until I realized how stressful it must have been on them to live on a busy street. They felt like they needed to constantly be on guard 24x7, and defend their home.

See that green line at the front of my house? I'm still debating whether or not to board that part of the fence up. On one side, I just want them to settle down, and learn to relax... "hey bud, go ahead and have a nap in the yard, no worries" type of thing. At the same time, I don't want to dilute their natural instincts by isolating them. Still not sure what I'm going to do.

I have 2 spaniels and they are both fucking idiots.....seriously mental none stop dogs although the eldest is almost 11 and he has calmed down somewhat.

If I go in the back garden for 2 seconds, when I come back in the house they treat you like they haven't seen you for days and the youngest has to bring me something, doesn't matter if its one of the kids toys, a shoe, whatever, he must bring me something and it drives me fucking nuts.

I wouldn't change the little bleeders though, they are great with kids and the friendliest dogs I could wish for. They got house trained pretty easily and are fine when out for a walk, thats all I ever wanted.

EDIT: This is my first post on this forum. I came here looking for help, tips or whatever to earn some money online but instead I find myself replying to a post about bloody dogs, Christ man, I guess that's why I have never earned anything online yet, thick shit.
