Ok, Im curious to know what the pros think of my first campaign outline!

Step 1: Get an adwords account (Done)
Step 2: Get an affiliation link to Netflix via Linkshare (Done)
Step 3: Make an adwords ad that links to MY website. (Not done. Nothing beyond this point is done, its only theoretical til I get you guyses opinions ;P)

(The website has nothing on it, it automatically redirects to the Netflix Landing page via my affiliate link, the website does not exist yet it is merely theoretical that it would work, I hope it is possible to automatically redirect via my linkshare link.)

Step 4: Choose just ONE keyword to start off with and test on my adwords ad, my idea for a first keyword is just "netflix", Im hoping with just one keyword I wont be draining my funds very fast. (Am I wrong to think that?) But I will still get enough traffic to see the effectiveness of that keyword. Preferably I want a Keyword that receives minimal competition relative to high traffic relative to my guess of the conversions for that keyword relative to CPC.

(FYI: I was going to use "Buy Netflix" as my first keyword, since if someone searches for that its almost guaranteed that they will actually convert, but WordTracker's "count" says that there were only 3 searches for that in the past 90 days, that cant possibly be right can it? And "Dvd Rental" only returned 250 searches in the past 90 days, and "Netflix" only gave 10'000! What the frick?... I think WordTracker is wrong or either those numbers dont mean what I think they mean... Can anyone recommend a better way to find keyword stats? Preferably one that shows stats for the day, and not stats per 90 days...)

Step 5: See the effectiveness of that ad, learn from it, make it better, once mastered and receiving atleast a 2:1 ROI or greater, make another ad for something else using the profits.

So... Does anyone think I would see a 2:1 ROI on that ad alone? Regardless of the total amount made whether it be spending 1$ and making 2?

Oh! Almost forgot to show some information about the netflix affiliate offer...
It gives 9$ flat commission.
11$ if you get more than 500 orders a month...
12$ for 1500 a month...
14$ for over 3000 a month...
16$ for over 4000 a month!

Realistically I am expecting less than 30 orders a month using this single ad. (Does that seem accurate to you too?)

(Also, I dont understand what the 'bid' on your ad is, my bid is at 0.01 cent a click, what would a higher bid do exactly? Im guessing its how often your ad appears (maybe), so if I bid 0.01 cent, then how often will my ad be seen? Whats a good bid to atleast make my ad seen at a nice pace that will bring optimum traffic compared to cost?)

(Also, here is what the terms and agreements are from netflix for this affiliate link... Tell me if Im breaking any of these...

1) Emails that advertise Netflix require advance approval by Netflix and are otherwise prohibited. //I know Im not breaking this one...

2) Promotion of Netflix through search engines may be done by advance permission only. //I dont know about this one, wtf does this mean? Does that mean they have to give you permission to promote them through adwords?

3) You may not bid on “Netflix" or any misspelling or variant thereof from websites, search engines or other directory referral services to promote your affiliate links. //I have absolutely NO clue what this means. Does it conflict with my plan in any way? I can only hope it has nothing to do with adwords...
)

And so, thats my plan, as I have it right now. Its still in the theoretical stages of course =P... Thanks for the replies, cya.

ok, from noob to supernoob.

Step 1: Get an adwords account (Done)

cool.

Step 2: Get an affiliation link to Netflix via Linkshare (Done)

cool.

Step 3: Make an adwords ad that links to MY website.

not gonna work. google checks for existence of the target and the display url. if you redirect to any other url than the target/display-url, the g-man puts your campaign on hold. so forget about mydomain.com -> netflix.com.

go, make your own landing page. or do "blackhat" by assigning the target-url on keyword level and hope they don't notice as they only seem to check for target- and display-url on adcopy level for the moment being.

Step 4: Choose just ONE keyword to start off with and test on my adwords ad

nicely taken from the "get a million i 30 days ebook", but not gonna work. i learned it the hard way too, but think about it yourself: do you type in "buy dvd recorder" when you gonna get serious about getting one? no. maybe you type in the model name, or something, but not simply "buy"... maybe "cheap"... but not buy. forget about those friggin buy word lists. wordtracker is absolutely correct here, you will find these numbers to be correct for many "buy"-words.

Step 5: See the effectiveness of that ad, learn from it, make it better, once mastered

prepare to lose money at first. there is no free lunch. although everybody can see the buffet, does not mean that everybody is allowed to eat from it. so, you gotta buy a ticket first to get admitted to it, and that means: learning, learning, learning. i am currently on a 1:1 track, meaning i spend a dollar and earn a dollar. i am not dumb, so i know it is not about any disablity of mine ;9 it is just about the fact, that you need to master this to actually real reap in the profits. to MASTER it.

Its fun to be the nubby...

Ok, how is this for a correction of step 3?

Step 3: Make a landing page that resembles the netflix official landing page by using similar colors and graphics, write similar things about the service that netflix itself has written on their landing page, similar, but not exact. Make it look nice, clean, neat, easy to use, and put a 'contact us' and 'more info' buttons, etc, all of which lead to the Netflix Landing Page via my affiliate link (Which I have no idea how to do btw, its just theoretical since Im teh nub) and then link my LP to my adwords ad for that campaign... Sound better? If not please tell me =P Thanks.

Ah, and about step 4... I know "buy netflix" might not get much traffic, but isnt that almost guaranteed to give me like 75%+ conversions if I DO use it? While still costing me very little to run the ad on that keyword? I dont know much about it obviously =P bleh...

And about your last paragraph, I hope I can atleast maintain a 1:1 ROI because if I cant and my funds drain I cant really put much else into it... Even a 1.1 : 1 ROI would be good... I dont want to start yet because what I have to lose cant be replaced for a very long time... So Im holding off and trying to learn more to give myself a greater chance of success... Once the others here believe I have a 70% chance or greater of turning a profit I will definitely go for it!

Another problem with your plan is that Google blocks the Netflix brand name from any adds.
You will not be able to use "Netflix" in you add at all unless you are using something besides Adwords.

then stay away from this business and get some money first that you can risk to wager in online businesses.

are you a bit out of your mind risking money you cannot afford to lose in a business you obviously have no experience in?

ever thought about what the term ROI comes from? return on INVESTMENT. an investment is something you have to come up with UPFRONT. and as usually, any profit is a product of a risk/reward-function. the higher the risk, the higher the reward.

if you put all of this together, you will find, that doing the online marketing business is much like gambling the stock markets. you bet on a trend, some words, some sites and hope you hit the right trend. if you don't, well, bad luck.

so, forget about all theories. because in theory i am a paper-trading billionaire. in reality though, i need to be able to afford to lose. i can, because i define my stakes as play money. but if you cannot, then just stay the fuck away before you risk it all and maybe even more.

jeez, how can people be so greedy that they are willing to risk it all instead of being just lucky with what they got.
