Doesn't really happen in reality though. They just wait for the sun to go down, and eat, drink, and party the full day's worth in a few hours.

I know many Muslims who observe (in the west) Ramadan very seriously.

Radical activity picks up during Ramadan. No idea why.

Fasting is like meditation, and I tried it with some of our interpreters for only 5 days.

It allows you to think inwardly about food and your surroundings. I'm sure if you're incredibly spiritual, it opens up a lot of ties there as well.
