I got my ass kicked last month, just got the hospital bill

Still can't believe you guys have to pay for medical attention lol.

Do you also pay for standard visits to the doctor?

Individuals or their health insurance company have to pay for everything. Doctors don't work for free and they are not government employees in the US.

You pay for yours too, just not in the same way... paid with taxes does not = free.

I thought you were going to say $406,000. And yes, I have heard of travelers w/o insurance getting hospital bills this big.

What happens if you don't pay the hospital bill? Will it eventually go to collections?

If I were you I would rather spend that money on some muay thai classes. Train for a few months and then track that black guy down and gain your balls back. Beat him senseless with your newly acquired muay thai skills (bring a baseball bat in case). Then you will feel good about yourself. You will no doubt still be a broke faggot, but atleast you will have your self respect.

That's such a messed up situation. I'm far happier paying x amount extra in tax so I don't have to worry about money anytime I want to speak to a doctor. Also I don't have to worry about the price of extensive treatment (and whether or not it'll be covered by my insurance). Shit, Scotland (as opposed to the rest of the UK) even covers prescription costs (and education fee's.. but that's best kept for another thread).

At a quick glance, it appears our taxes are higher than yours but any system which isn't turning people away from medical attention because they don't have the right insurance, and aren't charging extortionate rates for even small mishaps is better than the U.S' system IMO.

Hey blue, did you read the post? He was toe wrestling with a black dude and lost!

He needs to workout his toes more.

I was always raised to believe that I should leave vengeance to the divine, but I want retribution.

This black guy, rotc asshole through and through, beat me up so bad I went to the emergency room, discharged myself 5 minutes upon arrival because I don't have health insurance.

I got my bill today in the mail for $406. The entire time I had decided to basically not press charges and just somehow forgive him and use it as motivation to work out, etc... Now $406 won't totally kill me and I have income streams so I think eventually I'll be fine (ugh need to do taxes :x).

I want revenge, but truthfully, I just want to stop making bad choices that end up with bad company, etc...

The whole story is this basically:

it was me, that guy (who i'll call E) and my other friend (that i'm calling J). it was j's birthday so i was celebrating with him and we were hanging out with e and two other girls. now i had hung out with e for a while so i thought we were fairly cool - but something about him just wasn't right. plus all my other friends had warned me about him.

alright, so fast forward through the night, we escort the girls back to their dorm and proceeded to go back downtown. along the way i realize j's had a few. i'm trying to take care of him because he literally cannot stand. at the same time, i'm trying to hold a discussion with e - it was nothing important. i wasn't heated and i am actually a generally nice guy. anyway e starts telling j that he wants to fight me or something and i basically have NO clue why. i've had a few drinks so i'm like - welp, bring it.

got moped up. cut my left big toe pretty severely so i had to get stitches at the hospital.

I'm just in my room right now, a seething ball of rage, doing nothing but setting up more fiverr campaigns and sb link building urls. The truth is I'm just a broke faggot who was too stupid to pay attention to my internal alarm bells and i'm paying for it.

Hate to break this to you man, but...

2nd one is UK spending... we spend a whole 1% more than you do. But you have to make room for all the money Uncle Sam spend on "defence". (and yeah, I know your total tax burden is probably a little lower than ours, depending our your state. But it's not THAT much lower.)

This. Love the foreigners who are like omg u guys fail we get that for FREE.. ya free if you disregard your 50% tax rate and the fact that it can take 18 weeks to be seen by a doctor once you file a claim.

Nope - effective tax rate is about 25-30% if you run your own business and earn c.$150K out of it. If you earn more, the total tax burden is less, because tax planning gets more cost effective. Ex. you get an effective tax rate of 10% on capital gains from selling a business for up to £10MM

Unlike you, we don't have any GAAR, so you have to be a complete idiot (or have an incompetent accountant) to pay the posted top rates.

We can usually be seen by a doctor same day, and a specialist in two weeks if you have an urgent problem. Also, private healthcare insurance is about $75 per month for an individual.

To be fair, normal people don't run their own business and make $150k a year.

I'm also not even close to an expert on foreign health care. I just commented on it because I saw a thing on CNN last night from that indian doctor dude Sanjet Gupteaa or whatever the fuck, who was doing a special report on how other countries health care systems are better. He said the only thing that sucked about Europe is they get up to 50% tax and the wait was so bad that they are changing their policies/laws so that patients can be seen sooner. I was just regurgitating that info.
