I have a bunch of money that I want to use to start a business...

OP - You just started this thread today.

http://www.wickedfire.com/design-de...urn-out-one-simple-iphone-app-every-week.html

It seems like you do have an idea of what you want to do. I'm not even sure why you created this thread. Just do your idea and see the project out. Don't create 10 projects and hope something happens. Hope gets you no where. Hard work gives you a chance.

No one on this forum can guarantee you success. (except maybe ly2)
The income I would produce from that would be pretty minimal. I'm pursuing it only because I need to start generating some income while I brainstorm more lucrative business ideas.

Ever think about buying an existing business? Or better yet, look for sites that are successful and reverse engineer what they are doing. One of the biggest problems with people who start online businesses is they don't have the cashflow.

I don't understand why this is so hard for people to grasp.

Based on my personal experience it was hard to find out what I really did love because I had been force fed things that I should "love" from birth. You should love a house, kids, a wife. You should love a job. You should love this and that. I think most people live in this bubble and until they (by chance or volition) leave this bubble they will never truly find out what they love.

Because people over think things in these situations and simply miss the obvious. Can't see the forest for the trees is an axiom that fits in most cases.

Patiently awaiting the glorious ass pics ......

To be fair, it's sometimes very difficult to monetize your passion. At that point, I think the key is to find bits and pieces of business in general that you really enjoy and enjoy those things while you pursue projects that might not be in your interests wheelhouse.

I love lamp.

surely through all your experience you had thoughts that started with, "dang, i wish someone would come up with x that would solve the y problem" ?

its not necessarily about doing what you love because sometimes that doesnt fill a niche or solve someones problem.

doing a lot of client work i get involved with peoples businesses and hear their stories. this last one is a B2B mobile dry cleaning business that has existed for a CENTURY because they fill a simple need and businesses pay them to solve a problem (clean linens and company uniforms).

creating a successful business doesnt start with you ("i like doing this..") nor does it start with money ("i need to make $xx,xxx..."). it starts with creating a solution to a problem and figuring out how to do it efficiently and effectively.

I agree but I think there is a lot of truth to 'follow your dreams and the money will follow'. It's not just as simple as that, but what I've always taken from that saying is, don't just do something because it's an opportunity. Do it because a. there's some relevance to your interests, passions, vocations, etc. and b. you've determined that there is an opportunity or you can make one.

Satisfying both of those conditions at once is not as hard as people think, although it does take work and innovation. I think for most people it also takes unlearning that whole 'can't have your cake and eat it too' crap. Sure you can. Especially in internet marketing.

And to be honest, I make sure business does start with me. If I don't like it, fuck it. I'm not getting into it. Life's too short to put opportunity before interests.

Qualifier: I recognize and sympathize with the fact that opportunity is itself an interest :D

Invest the money. Leave only the most marginal amount to start the business. Verify the market before pouring tons of money into something.

Lots of people think "sweet I have $xx,xxx; I can finally start a business." That's a great way to piss a bunch of money away. Nothing was stopping you from starting a business before.

I would take the money, and I would travel for a year. See 40 countries. Go to Asia. To Africa. To South America. To Australia.

When you come back, you will know what you want to do.

And you'll be a lot wiser for it.

Push your horizons out.

Start watching around 8.00 or so, the first bit might not be interesting to you.

To be honest, the whole passion things is such over rated bullshit.

Just do something that you dont hate obviously then make sure its scalable....

Just watched this video. Good stuff.

He made some really good points about copper too. I don't know much about him but he seems like a smart guy.

.....can't decide what to do.......I'm not passionate about anything...

......I'm planning on quitting my job next week, so I can give it 100% of my focus, whatever it is.........

I keep going back in forth in my head.........Nothing seems that appealing.......

.........don't have enough real-life experience...........doesn't excite me anymore.
