IE6 Countdown

It's just a gimmick. If MS really gave a shit they'd make their browsers auto-update like the others. They'd also add support for features like rounded corners and gradients that don't suck.

@china no you guys are wrong.
ie6 is the only one with complete chinese translation.
ie7/8/9 dont come near it in terms of being fully native.
also, 7/8/9 plugins are almost never in chinese. 6 has the largest amount of chinese plugins (most written by chinese programmers themselves).

it is a matter of language. 6 is the most language-supported one. 7/8 not nearly as good. 9 basically nonexistent - - (theyre more like language skins than fully native)

Code:
[B]10 years ago a
 browser was born.[/B]

Its name was Internet Explorer 6. Now that we’re in 2011, in an era of modern web
standards,[B] it’s time to say goodbye[/B].
Modern web standards??? ahahaha
IE9 doesn't even support HTML5/CSS3 at 100%.

holy living fuck, another xp user? well there's at least two of us then. I hate IE, it's like a virus to my computer. Not that firefox is that great in terms of things like resource use, but at least with firefox I get a lot of plugins which add additional functionality. I never really understood how companies profit off of internet browsers, can someone explain?

Microsoft, for example, sets the default homepage to be MSN and the default search engine on IE to be Bing. Many people aren't tech savvy enough to know how to change them, so Microsoft ends up getting a lot more traffic + usage for MSN and Bing than they would have otherwise. This translates to added monetization on those properties.
Also, through their update mechanism, Microsoft is able to push pet technologies like Silverlight and promote a whole ecosystem of servers, IDEs, books etc. that's built around it.

Firefox, if I'm not mistaken, prompts users to install the Google toolbar during its own installation. The Google toolbar increases the usage of Google's search engine (I think FF gets paid per install to do this), and also tracks all the sites that you visit. This information is very valuable when it comes to detecting spam and other uses. For example, its reasonable to think that if Google's search algorithm classifies a particular site as super-popular, but then none of the toolbar users have ever visited it, then Google can assume that the webmaster is gaming it.

Opera, I think, uses the browser as a proof-of-concept that they are efficient and have advanced capabilities. They then use this great reputation to get more contracts for the other services they provide.

And IE9 wants me to get to Vista or Windows 7 in order to use it. Fuck it - I love my XP!

Hey guys, I was too once a XP "ONLY" kinda guy all through vista and a few months into Win7 -- but then I finally broke down and installed windows 7 because my BFF convinced me it was safe to move over and I trust his tech judgement, and Its been pretty amazing -- Win7 is worth the move from XP!

Success,

Your BFF?

Best Fucking Friend?

Best Female Friend?

Best Friend forever?

Upgrading all of the US gov licenses and updating all of the internal government intranets that run with IE specific hooks and code sounds like a windfall for the dinosaur tech industry.

More Obama monies at work.

I can't even imagine why people are still using so crappy bowser like IE6.

This is pure evil technology, because it doesn't support most of the web standards. I think that they can even use many websites because of their browser.

Have u ever heard the word "poor"?
There are poor people in poor countries who can just use your old refurbished Win98/95 machines.
