Iowa Caucuses



If it is accurate that Romney wins, I don't think he is touchable in NH. People vote for a winner, that's why momentum is so important.

Apparently what happened is Santorum bought a big evangelical endorsement for a million dollars, and then the evangelicals delivered him a ton of votes.

I suspect Romney did something similar, rumors have it that Iowa's system is pretty corrupt.

That said, I wish Ron Paul's campaign had bought some county chairmen. It might have put him over the hump.

I'm not fully sure how this whole thing works, but I do know RP spent a fuckton in Iowa and the momentum he would've gained would have been great.

Onwards and upwards, I suppose.

Who knows, maybe he got so many votes because he was last on the ballot. People went through the names, and figured, "I don't like anyone on here!", then just checked off the last guy.

His campaign said all along that they wanted a top 3 finish and they got it. It's still a long short, but even the talking heads were saying that RP is the race to the end. He'll continue to do well fundraising and while he might not get the nomination, the message will continue to grow. If you look at now vs. 4 years ago it's absolutely amazing what he's been able to accomplish.
 
Romney is the only candidate that actually has a shot. Santorum will lose momentum, just like all the others have. Romney has been the only one showing consistent support.

The only state he had a chance of winning (caucus or not) was Iowa. The guy is not leadership material (I said it before).

The fact that Romney won in Iowa shows how much he's going to run over everyone else. He just eeked out a win in his weakest demographic: evangelical right wing voters.

I don't think Paul should quit, because his supporters honestly don't know any better (unlike Perry's and Bachmans); but it's time you start looking at the reality of the situation. And don't start telling me about how the system's rigged yada yada...

Ron Paul has a very good shot, as long as the media doesn't pull a "new front runner" person out of nowhere again for a solid week, which it won't now that there are multiple primaries next to one another.

Iowa is the only state that does a backward group-think for who they support. So, since the average age is 60+ for Caucus goers there and are easily swayed by more influential people in that community out of tradition - you get what you saw. Iowa is just a theatrical start to the primary season. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they had the TV on watching the news as they voted and went with the media's opinion on who will win if they were undecided, so they made it happen because they didn't "want their vote wasted".

And it's not about if Ron Paul wins or not, it's all about getting the message out there for as long as he can to influence positive change. If he wins, it's a bonus.

There's a really good non-partisan documentary that covers this pretty well, but I honestly forget the name of it. I think it came out in 2006 or so?

The problem is that bringing this stuff to light is a huge uphill battle because anytime someone questions an official stance they are marginalized as a conspiracy theorist. I think as media bias and corruption becomes more and more evident though, it will be easier to sway support. That is, if they don't take our internet.

The reality of the situation is that his support continues to grow- probably not as fast as we supporters would like to see. But pretending he has no chance is pretty pointless. It's the drum that the media has been beating forever, and it's at least partially the reason he didn't win last night. I'm not sure what you guys want to accomplish by repeating that mantra, unless you just don't like him. If that's the case, then why are even in a Ron Paul thread?

It really seems like the "Austrian" comment flew right over the heads of far too many people. I mostly see random confused comments and comments about Adolf Hitler being Austrian, very few people seem to know about the Austrian School of Economics. :uhoh2:
