I'll need to see the interface. If it's anything as shitty as the one that balmer demo'd that one time, it's going to fail so hard. However, if it's closer to the Windows 7 phone interface, with those big boxes, it'll do fine.

On a side note, I might consider buying one of these if it was dual-core and under $500. Otherwise I'll stick with my Lenovo S10.
Even though I own a iPad news site, I have to say..HP did a great job with that video. They made sure to point out EVERY FEATURE that the iPad is currently missing.
My iPad is being shipped soon, but this looks like a good competitor - too bad their not an Apple product. They have no chance to compete.

the ipad is cool. play with it first and then make up your mind. For me its not $600 cool but its really premature to say its vastly inferior even given its obvious limitations

Yes a child can play with an iPad. But an iPad can be useful to produce music on and even use it as a supplement to graphic design. I am not saying it can be replaced, just a nice addition to what you already have set up. If you are too stubborn to witness this fact then go back to reformatting Windoze on a daily basis.
I'm not looking for simple. Fuck simple. I want to have a platform where I can do whatever the fuck I want to do, whenever I want to do it.
I already have an iPhone, it's easy to use but it has it's limitation. That's going to be the same way the iPad is.

i have an iphone, and i love it, but i'm not a blind consumer, i waited until i thought the product was up to par (3G Version).
For that, the iPad, and this hp Slate for that matter, really are not up to snuff for me.
I don't want to work out bugs, i want them already worked out for me, especially if i'm handing out $500+
Windows Killed Apple once. They can do it again. Well now there's also Googles Android for the Iphone. No body is untouchable in the tech biz.
Besides Windows have been working on the tablet a long time. Its just now catching on. The fact ipad is missing so many obvious features, like a camera, usb, sd card reader is enough to get most people to buy the other product for half the price. I'm not sure why Apple took this route, the reason Iphone was so hot, is because of all the unnecessary features.

The newest generation of kids are ALOT smarter when it comes to coping with technology because of their total immersion from a young age, they understand how technology works, it comes easy to them. anyways its a moot point though - because no 2.5 yr olds are going to go out and shop for iPads.

1gb of ram...windows 7 with HP's custom interface on top...sounds speedy!

Everyone here is too advanced with computers to be limited to something like a tablet for more than basic uses, it's similar to a netbook...I've had a netbook for a few months now, never used the camera, or usb ports...so to me that's just a waste of space and money...I'd rather have a smaller cheaper device, than have the option to use something I never will.
But really...no one on this forum will have a real "use" for either of these, besides a cool toy. The HP slates got an SD card reader, a USB port, HDMI-out, a VGA webcam, a 3-megapixel camera and a “conventional” SIM-card tray. Its got more RAM, a widescreen 1024 x 600 display (that supports 1080 HD FTW ... cant believe apple is releasing a device for consuming media and they dont even let u watch movies in high def?)
its got its faults - low battery life being for me the biggest deal but w/e when even McDonalds has wifi and plugs now im not that worried. it also doesn't support wireless N, but seriously I havent noticed much of a difference since installing a wireless N router on my own home network so w/e.

With more ways to interact via skyping face to face, as well as easy interaction with the social networks that everyone is already familiar with, it just seems like a bit better choice considering the popularity of Facebook in peoples lives... and wait - one last thing, the iPad doesn't support makemoniesonline.com and that seems like the ultimate dealbreaker for me.

The bottom line, half the people who own apple products simply get them because they have money to spend and don't give a shit. The people complaining about apple's prices are either a) people who save their money or b) don't have money to spend. To sit here and bicker all day about "functionality" on the ipad is useless.
The ultimate bottom line is. Apple is simpflying computing for the masses. How easy is it to install apps on an iPhone? How easy is it to get viruses too?
