ipad killer.

The interface for the slate is still terrible. Why didn't they just do something similar to the Windows Phone 7 UI.

When you think about it, it makes sense to use the same or a similar UI for a tablet PC if it's going to have the same basic input as a touchscreen phone - the scale is just a little bigger.

Why can't the slate use something like this:

OR

If the slate looked like that natively, then I would buy it right off the bat. Since it's running Win7 you could just put rainmeter on it, and have the same thing, but it wouldn't be as good, because it's not built in to the UI itself and designed around the features of the gui.

The ultimate bottom line is. Apple is simpflying computing for the masses. How easy is it to install apps on an iPhone? How easy is it to get viruses too?

A majority of people are fucking retards that are bound to fuck up their software. You need to make shit idiot proof to stop stuff like that happening. This is where the O/S for the iPad is aiming. Yeah the hardware may be limiting in terms of usb/cameras etc but one step at a time. This is where Windoze fucked up.

Soon apple will partner with Fischer/Price to make it even simpler because people are just plain stupid and lazy.

HP is just one tablet, expect a dozen more later this year that will be cheaper than an iPad..

That's slick... I've never heard of rainmeter before. It almost makes me want to stick Windows 7 on my pc again.

The competition in the Tablet PC market will be strong in the next months. There are so many players around and most of them have bettere features than Apple iPad, when the iPad is not a tablet pc and a little more than an ebook reader.

My next tablet will be one of these:

I think you guys are forgetting when the iPod and MP3 players came out, The iPod was the most expensive (by at least $100), AND had a very simple interface with no "extra features"...We saw all the other MP3 players kill that though...oh wait.

Apple will make sure iPad is number one...they're good with making people want their products no matter how much more they cost compared to the others...

BTW... HP slate screen is really small, i'd rather just stick to a smart phone...

pretty sure that question only belongs in a 2 year olds brain

Unless you want to have to hire the entire country of India to explain to people how they can get to Facebook, put some pictures of their tablet, and listen to music.

The point is that it's intuitive enough for a 2 year old to use. Whenever everyone looks at Apple products, they like to strip it down to just the specs and compare it to another computer, and act like the UI and design don't matter at all. This is why other computer manufacters can't get shit right half the time.

Yeah, there is stuff out there that can run HD video and have wireless and it's out already, but using it is a pain in the ass. Sure, I could figure it out myself, but that's what you're supposed to do when you make the product.

Most people don't have the background or interest to learn how to use shitty UI's and poorly designed products unless its their only option, but in this day and age, its not.

The only thing that makes this iPad thing a complete failure, and anyone that considers them a techie an utter retard for buying into it is the lack of flash.

This is for several reasons but I will only mention three. None of which is because flash is the best thing since sliced bread. It's just too ubiquitous at this stage in the game to deny access to it.

The first is because flash is so prevalent on the web. Not allowing it inherently breaks the user experience a user should be having when perusing the web. How is breaking the user experience in any way shape or form Apple's perceived vision. It's not.

The second is the profit motive. It's the only reason why Apple won't allow it. Making money is fine, but they put themselves up on a pedestal as if they're doing this for altruistic open web standard reasons, which is utter bullshit. Why would they want the kids to play farmville on their ipad all day when there's apps to be purchased. Why let them visit hulu directly when they can subscribe to some networks media library instead.

I would say forget about porn, but the porn industry is always ahead of the game and the real players will have their library's converted over soon enough so that the lack of flash won't be an issue.

Lastly, it's utterly hypocritical. The argument about how adobe's flash is a closed standard that should no longer be perpetuated is correct to a degree. However this is coming from a company that is all about closed systems for their own gain. The thought makes me sick that people buy into their bullshit when they simply use the ideal of simplicity to force what they perceive as acceptable content down the throats of their unknowing users.

Plenty of arguments to back up why closed content systems are bad for -everyone-.

To put it plainly, the iPad is nothing more than a device that isn't hackable. It's not democratic. It's for dummies and cultural Pringles-eaters who just want to sit back and take in stuff, not for creators and innovators who want to change the world or make lolcats, as the mood strikes.

The hardware is crap. It's all about the OS...of which theirs isn't all that amazing still. Maybe this will change with the 4.0 OS they're announcing tomorrow, however there will be no flash so it's still fail. Windows 7 devices are absolutely not going to happen and are a lot of the reason why tablet devices have failed up to this point. So I'm just going to wait until some clever company comes along and creates a super tight android based UI that beats the shit out of Apple's half assed showing.

Sense UI tablet anyone?

"WePad"? I smell a trademark lawsuit coming on. I don't know who said it, but Android vs iPhone OS: "Android just feels like some psychology grad student's project."

who knows if they'll make it past the announcement phase.

I'd rather get the iPad over the HP Slate. Even though the Slate is supposed to have all these features that the iPad lacks.. 5 hour battery life is shitty.

Yeah I was scratching my head about the Flash part. Apple is getting cocky.
Which I believe will lead to there demise.

HP Touchsmart tx2 series? Real laptops with multi-touch fully loaded under $1000.

I thought it was in the Android license agreement that Android cannot be installed on devices with screens larger than 7 inches?

The bottom line, half the people who own apple products simply get them because they have money to spend and don't give a shit. The people complaining about apple's prices are either a) people who save their money or b) don't have money to spend. To sit here and bicker all day about "functionality" on the ipad is useless.

wow. You sir.. are a fucking toolbag. I make over 100k a year... and I spend EVERY nickel of it... but none of it goes to apple. I'll tell you why. Inferior products. I LOVE to blow money on gadgetry. Does that mean I'm going to by any piece of bullshit that someone sticks a lowercase i in front of? fuck no.

MP3 player... Cowon S9 32GB. Why? because they audio quality is 10x better than a damned ipod for less money.

Computer: homebuilt core i7 with all the bells and whistles... WHY? because pound for pound I got more bang for my buck and can upgrade at will without starting from scratch.

Phone? HTC Touch Pro 2. Why? because unlike the fucktards at apple I dont have to "root" my god damned phone to install the applications I want.. oh yeah and they actually thought to include a god damned keyboard and flash support. Oh yeah and I don't have to be on ATT the worlds shittiest network.

Guess what? when I buy a tablet... it ain't going to be a iTampon.

I would love to hear you say that I am a guy who tries to save money or doesn't have it when I have not 1 but 2 pairs of headphones that cost over a grand (JH Audio JH13 Pros and Sennheiser HD800s) and a god damned 6000 dollar portable tube headphone amp (redwine audio Isabella).

Find another argument strawman.

The one thing that completely carries Apple is branding and they are very fucking good at it, nothing will kill them until they stop being so good at that.
