Is anyone else godamned tired of this country?

Let's see where we're at at year 1 or 2 before we judge a guy who's been in office one month.

If a child went to school on the first day said 2+2=5 the teacher is not going to wait until the end of the school year to tell him his numbers don't add up (unless of course that teacher works in the Oakland, CA school district).

It's the liberal academics who have distorted history. You're just regurgitating what you've read from textbooks.

Really. Enlighten us all and point us to your credible books or sources that are the unbiased truth about American history.

Wow...that's profound.

I really can't understand how anyone can believe that of the two parties, the republicans are the lesser of the two evils. Have we been living in the same world for the better part of the last decade? Here are some facts.

Bush failed to protect the US from 9/11. It happened on his watch and followed direct intelligence reports he received in August.

Bush failed to capture Bin Laden

Bush doubled the budget deficit

Bush permitted torture as a information gathering technique

Bush nominated Mike Brown, the least capable director FEMA could have ever had, and we saw how great that worked out during Katrina

Bush allowed wiretapping on US citizens

Bush was incapable of not sounding like an idiot when he spoke

Is Obama perfect? No, but he's better in just about every conceivable respect. The guy has a brain and we will be a better country after his presidency.

LOL all you people thinking SOCIALISM is the problem with the USA please stay the hell out of Canada, and Australia, because I'd rather not run into you, ever.

Yesterday my fiancee got fingerprinted and his photo taken when entering the USA because he was a "foreign national". My Canadian passport is the only thing that got me out of that.

Wow, I thought all WFers would be intelligent enough to see through Obama

I see right through him, right through to his Harvard degree and Constitutional Law Lecturing past, his ability to to form a team that completely owned social media, his ability to beat a Clinton in a democratic primary, and his ability to speak using real words and in full sentences.

Guy is fake as hell.

Dude, you're fighting an up hill battle. These guys cream themselves every night watching Hannity. Most likely where they get 99% of their info. Oh, and Ron Pauls' web site, cause we all know he's a scary smart libertarian.

Dude, your revisionist history is beyond distorted
O Rly?

But, you can use the non sequitur arguments that "those who know history" really know that FDR was a fascist, and that Keynesian policies are debunked and did not contribute to getting the country out of a depression if you like, but that will not change history.
No, in fact it is history. Keynesianism was debunked in the 70s because Lord Maynard Keynes based his theory on that fact that inflation and unemployment could not rise simultaneously. In the 70s, inflation and unemployment rose together, proving that currency debasement (debt) cannot replace production as an engine of economic growth.

FDR was a fascist, he chose fascism over socialism. Fascism is economic nationalism.

Keynesianism doesn't get anyone out of debt. It increases the length of recession by preventing the capital markets from purging losers and direct labor and resources to the productive industries. You take money from the people who run good businesses, and give it to their crappy competitors to carry on competing inefficiently. That is what Keynesianism is. Even a layman can see how backwards the ideas are.

Seriously, anyone who promotes Keynesianism today is a quack. It's like trying to put out a fire with lighter fluid. Anyone can see that when your problems are debt spending on too much consumption, more debt and more consumption aren't going to solve anything. You can't eat your way to weightloss, even on Atkins. Trust me, I tried.

I notice that you do not mention how Paulson was one of the main catalyst in pushing the TARP program...Bush's Treasury guy.
Do I have to name everyone who is an asshole? Of course not. Obama supported Paulson.

No one said Obama will be perfect. I don't like somethings he plans on doing. But there is no denying that he has a keen intellect and innovative ideas. For his first month in office I think he's doing exceptionally well considering the political climate.
He created the shitty climate with his votes in the Senate. You want to hand out merit badges to people who wipe their own asses?

I don't dislike Obama, I dislike all politicians. That said, the way people mindlessly repeat his stupid nonsense (like the other night, he said America invented the automobile, when Benz invented the automobile) drive me crazy. Just like Bushies drove me crazy two years ago.

Right and left are games to keep the masses amused. What matters is rational analysis. Everything else is just lameness.

I'm fucking tired of people celebrating ignorance and painting intelligent people as elitests.

Bobby Jindal and Sarah Palin folks, thats the future of the GOP. A former faith healer and exorcist who sounds like a car salesman and a hockey mom who thinks africa is a country and who took 5 years at 4 schools to get a Journalism degree.

Rock on.

The sad thing is, Bush was so bad, you would think a pet rock was a super genius.

The reality is, Obama broke a bunch of his promises on the campaign trail, he supported most of Bush's most illegal and radical policies with his Senate votes, and he is constructing an economic disaster. He's actually tapping the same people on his economic advisory committee that committed fraud at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and IIRC has some Enron people there as well.

Yes, Bush was bad. Super bad. Barely more intelligent than a twig. But that doesn't validate the fact that Obama is either economically ignorant, or a liar. Bush's mistakes don't make Obama better. And not when you remember that Obama supported Bush, over and over.

I have no problem with libertarians. They are consistent (unlike the clusterfuck that is the republican platform).

I like Ron Paul, but he couldn't win. And Barack Obama was and is our best hope at some type of competent president.

Again this is pure and utter distortion of FDR, but you're free to have your perception of him. The fact is what he did by applying Keynesian policies pulled us out of a depression. If you want to argue that 40 years later Keynesian economics was proven wrong that's fine. Clearly you do this to advance your argument that Obama's Keynesian approach is wrong. I suppose you want to go the road of the Austrian School of economics, which is the gold standard, which is even 10 times more unrealistic. If not what are you proposing? I'm curious. Please don't say "tax cuts" cause I'll spit out my grape juice all over my keyboard.

I think we finally found an item that we have consensus on.

I don't dislike Obama, I dislike all politicians. That said, the way people mindlessly repeat his stupid nonsense (like the other night, he said America invented the automobile, when Benz invented the automobile) drive me crazy. Just like Bushies drove me crazy two years ago.

This is a silly argument. Henry Ford was the first to mass produce the auto mobile, the Frenchman Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot built the first self propelled vehicle on 1725, Karl Benz built the first car powered by an internal combustion engine in 1885.

But all this misses the point of Obama's speech, which is to say that America can once again return to the peak of industrial and technological innovation as evidenced by Ford's accomplishment by being the first to mass produce the automobile.

I hope we're not going to get in an arguement about Edison and Tesla next. I'll be sure to email Obama about this point in case he plans to mention the light bulb in a future speech.

Listen, we can stay here all night and argue until we're blue in the face about Washington corruption, associations, and so on.

That said, Obama is clearly in my mind the right individual for this particular moment in our history. Had McCain won, he would of made all sorts of mistakes as well, or decisions that would of been made criticized by the left and the right. Yet, McCain was not the right guy, no pun intended. It just so happens that most of the political talent is on the democrat side right now. Just like once upon a time the GOP had the talent with Reagan. Does not mean that Reagan did not fuck up plenty, but today my friends who are republicans cream their pants at the mere mention of his name.

It's a critical time in our nations history, so Obama deserves to be viewed with a microscope. That goes for whoever is the president. That said, my problem with the GOP is that they have a zillion reason why this policy or that policy is wrong, but they offer no solutions in thier place. And now they are afraid to speak about solutions because they are in the midst of retooling their political philosophy.

Although, you can agree, I hope, that Steele, Jindal, Palin, and Cantor are the wrong starting squad to go up against Obama in 2012. They don't stand a chance unless Obama lays a massive egg, and even then it may be tough for them, unless someone emerges that can express a message that the American people can relate too.

That said, Obama is clearly in my mind the right individual for this particular moment in our history.
Yeah, when presented with the choice of McCain or Obama maybe. I feel relatively confident to say there are probably at least 1,000 people more qualified to be President, and that's not about experience, but rather just how many exceptional people do not choose to be public parasites by feeding at the tax trough, but actually perform scientific discovery, lead soldiers, provide jobs (through entrepreneurship), teach children and heal the sick.

Right and left politics are a joke. It's not like a football game. These people are professional looters who put innocent people in jail for victimless crimes, send young people to die in meaningless foreign wars, and steal from the productive to buy political power from the unproductive. The only victory in an election is the people who are going to rob you blind and put you in harms way with belligerent foreign policy.

This is a silly argument.
No, it's an honest argument. Obama's budget came out today. He wants cap and trade.

There is no proof CO2 or man even causes global warming, and Obama wants to use it as a tax grab.

If we don't create CO2, the plants can't produce oxygen.

But most people are too fucking stupid to keep up with the fact that Al Gore has been debunked and the scientific community is trying to distance itself from climate (kook) science.

That's the problem with electing someone and thinking they are smarter than you. They aren't.

Listen, you're preaching to the choir. I'm an anarchist at heart. I'd love to see a revolution as bloody as Jean Paul Marat's. The only problem is that revolutionaries often transform into the despots and dictators they fought to replace.

I suppose all we can do is become detached observers of this fucking circus. This is why we sling pixels, so that we can get off the social grid.

Your comment about more talented people who enter other areas of life is true. However, these individuals probably have more of an impact on humanity as doctors, inventors, teachers, etc...than politicians actually have on our lives.

Perhaps we should go from a representational democracy to a direct democracy like the Swedish. Fuck it, now I'm moving to Amsterdam where I can eat brownies stuffed with pot openly in a cafe, while I argue with my AM about having my offers scrubbed...:laughing-smiley-007

Right and left politics are a joke.

Right and left politics are the game as it is played today. You can be idealistic (and entirely ineffective) from here until eternity or you be marginally pragmatic and throw your hat in on one side. You don't get to pick which way this river is flowing, you just get to try to tip the boat to one side or another. This is not going to change in our lifetime (as principled as the dissenters might be).
