LCD, LED, Plasma, FUCK! I just want a new TV

Buddy got a 3d recently and I had a chance to watch a couple of movies on it one afternoon. Loved it. Now regular hd is like old boring grainy black and white. I'm shopping for one now. I don't watch tv much but 3d is in my near future. Oh and totally forgot even had the glasses on after 5 mins.

And where the hell is my virtual reality? Need a Holodeck. 60" screens just aren't cutting it anymore.

Doesn't 3D hurt your eyes? Or is it just for the stuff that doesn't require glasses?

NBA basketball in 3D is the most amazing 3D experience.

This was over 3K weeks ago. Now Under 2K. Great set.

Amazon.com: Samsung UN55D8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV (Silver): Electronics

got one on last Black Friday from amazon and love it. While I don't watch 3d much anymore (gets boring after a while and don't feel like putting on the glasses to watch a movie) it is still a nice one.
if you are not in a hurry, can wait till black Friday, check amazon and newegg.

if you need something cheap, plasmas are cheaper but usually have more glare and colors are not as sharp...

Plasma has a better picture. Truer colour once calibrated properly, compared to LCD / LED which colours are set to destroy your retina by default, and at best, after calibrating, become watchable. There are still issues with them that I can't stand, like ghosting, their untrue blacks and really weird glow, but I'm just picky.

Do not bother with 3D unless you really really want to watch 3D. It's just an excuse to charge you way more for something you'll never use. The only issue now is a lot of brands are forcing you to get it.

Besides the 3D thing, TVs really are better the more you spend. If you get a cheap TV, expect a shittier picture with more problems and no support. There are diminishing returns once you get past a certain price point though. (I would say over 2000, and the features are about the same really, unless we're talking about > 60" TVs, then the price point is different).

One word of advice though, do not, under any circumstance, get a plasma if you watch any 24 hour news networks or play a lot of video games (basically stuff with static images). I don't care how much improvement they've done vs burn in, it still happens, and is really depressing when you notice it, as you can't really get rid of it completely, and you always end up noticing it once you know it's there. (not noticeable unless the background is pure white or very very light). If you have a significant other that likes watching news, and then leaves the TV on and walks away, leaving the images to burn in, you'll know what I'm talking about.

I can go a lot more into it, but it just seems like you want to get anything. Take a bit of time, go to avforums.com and browse about TVs. The forum is really busy but even the small guides there are really useful. If you're going to drop a grand or more on something, might as well take some time to learn about it.

LED is by far the best. I currently have a 72" DLP 1080p TV, which is fine with me for now. I wouldn't recommend getting a 3D TV just yet and here is why as I am waiting to upgrade myself for this reason: you have to wear glasses. 3D TVs without glasses obviously can't be that far off due to the fact that the Nintendo 3DS was released and featured 3D without glasses. If you do buy a 3D TV regardless please make sure you pay attention to the viewing angle as this is very important unless everyone is piling on top of each other in the very center.

Plasma = Heavier, bigger. Richer colors. Sucks in well lit rooms because of the glare.

LCD = Lighter, thinner. Washed out colors. No glare problem on matte screen

LED LCD = Super light, thin. Rich colors like plasma. No glare problem.

lol this thread is funny

plasma hasn't glared for years, they put an anti glare film over the glass now

plasma is by far superior to LCD. The refresh rate is ALOT faster, it can also have better colors. You won't get "ghosting" when you play video games of fast action movies.

Oh and p.s. a 3d tv is a normal tv with a 3d renderer in it. the screen is the same, it just sends the signal to the glasses, splits the pictures ect...

Lawls.

Mike this thread just cleared things right up didn't it? I stopped counting contradictions after about 12. It seems every type is the best and all the rest suck. Some expert advice up in this thread for sure :)

This is coming from someone who had to learn about TV's
