LOST : No Spoiler Alert

Here's the thing. There's two things that LOST was always about, the mystery of the island and the characters. The end wrapped up the character piece more or less, purgatory nonsense aside, but did jack shit to even remotely wrap anything up about the mystery of the island.

To me, even more so then before, knowing now that everything on that island was irrelevant to the "end" makes it even more interesting to me. Some remote island that just has crazy shit going down on it for thousands of years in a cyclical nature. All of our characters just met each other there and were simply passing through it all. It ends up coming back full circle to being unsatisfied that this crazy wasn't explained further.

People will jump to say "it's a mystery you're not supposed to know all the answers" but I think that's unfair to those that watch it for that. It's always been about both the island and the characters.

If you watched the show from the start there is no doubt that you would be emotionally touched by this ending episode. They played everyone by taking every emotional connection made throughout the entire series and put them all together in a happily ever after everyone hugs each other reality (so to speak). This is still at its core just poor writing regardless of how clever it was done and after the euphoria wears off I think a lot of people will feel a bit disappointed still. Cleverly unimaginative if ever a thing were to exist.

I couldn't honestly tell you if I would ever tell someone to watch the entire series from start to finish. Maybe seasons 1-3.

While I may be "emotionally" satisfied by that ending, I was certainly not intellectually satisfied.

I think, most of this show is just one big biblical reference. I wont type it all out, but heres one page that has some of the references.

Christ figures
Eloise Hawking sends her son Daniel Faraday to the island with foreknowledge of his death. This corresponds roughly with the Christian concept of God intentionally sending his son Jesus Christ to die as an atoning sacrifice. ("The Variable")
Locke's mother claims that Locke was immaculately conceived, although she misuses the term, implying that Locke did not have a human father. ("Deus Ex Machina")
When the fuselage survivors put Benjamin Linus into the Swan's armory, he hangs on the wall in a manner which is reminiscent of the crucifixion. ("Dave")
Dave's urging of Hurley to over-eat, and to throw himself off of the cliff, a reference to the temptations issued by Satan to Jesus during his 40-days in the desert prior to his public ministry. ("Dave")

Locke's father's presumed surname is Cooper, meaning Locke's real initials are J.C. (reference to Jesus Christ).
When Sayid is lifted from the waters of The Temple, his body assumes the form of the Crucified Christ. He is believed to be dead, but later revives (resurrects). ("LA X, Part 2")
Young Jacob appears to the Man in Black and Sawyer with bloody arms stretched out similar to Christ presenting himself to the doubting Apostle Thomas in John 20:25-28. ("The Substitute")

I think when you look at stuff like this, youll have a few aha moments, and although everything wont be revealed, and perhaps its all a coincidence, but I think its pretty interesting.

Wtf do you want explained. Go ahead and make a list. If you knew all the answers would it still be as interesting? No because its a fucking mystery. If you knew how a magician does all his shit, would it still be cool, no because its a fucking mystery. Having to fill in your own blanks, draw your own conclusions, etc is what made the show great.

Well considering everything you just wrote I think we just have 100% opposite desires in life and stories. And that's fine. The drama was fine, but if i watch a murder mystery.. i want to find out who did it in the end especially after the writer taunts me with the subject.

This show has been like watching a 2 hour movie where 20 people are just pointing up into the sky saying "OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD", "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT", "IT'S SO AMAZING", "WHAT IS THAT, WHAT IS THAT". And then the movie ends w/out ever showing what they were all looking at, or even having them talk about what they're looking at. Hmm, not satisfying to me.

It's called a TEASE.

Ataraxy has it right, they only worked with the character's and emotions in the finale and left tons of island's largest mysteries completely unexplained.

What do I want explained? Pretty much at least a few of the biggest mysteries about the island.. for fucks sake. If i need to list them then you've never watched the show.

What we got here is the longest tease known to man.
And why was the Island more like Purgatory than Purgatory was... with it's crazy mysteries and occurrences.
I want to be done with even pondering this jerk-off.
But my guess is the writers got called out on the original Island idea early on (Purgatory). So they said "Nope, that's not it!!!" and tried to change everything or better yet leave no explanation at all.

There are so many differing opinions on the meaning of the story, and we all knew it would be that way. I haven't made up my mind how I feel about the show - whether it was great or not. However, one thing the show did accomplish - it got people talking. TV networks would give their soul to have a show like Lost that has a solid following, fan sites, discussions, and more. It's a self fed monster. The viewership helps with bringing others in and making the show a success by talking about it. This is the recipe for a successful show.

After the show I went to a couple LOST community boards and found some people asking the same questions.
Here are some of those threads. Might answer some of your questions.

Sideways jumps - not sure about this
Knife puncture in Jacks lower stomach - very interesting reason
Jack's dad wearing the white boat shoes - this is a neat idea

reading questions like this make me glad I didn't waste my time.

I concur.

I watched the first episode on Hulu at one point to see what LOST was all about it. Decided it wasn't worth it to devote time to catching up on all of it. After reading this thread, I am very glad I didn't go through with trying to watch every season.

Have you checked out those two sites I linked to? In the end this is a pencil and paper show, and if you went back and watched it all again more of it would make sense. If you also read the lostpedia for instance alot more of it would make sense. Whether or not you want to do all of that, is up to you. But I think for those that dig deep enough answers can be found to many of the questions.

Man some of you guys just don't get it. Goober, you should stick to south park re-runs. Maybe that's more on your level.

You don't get it either and you're still satisfied...that's the point. It's only simpletons like you that have been obsessed with the show that are happy with this ending. Anybody with half a brain looks at this and thinks it's just stupid...they're all fucking dead in the end. That's almost as bad as "It was all just a dream..."

Agreed. This finale was so well written, produced, acted and directed it will go down as some of the finest hours in television history. Mark my words.

Hahahahahahahah.

Also one of the most popular and profitable. Coincidence?

Asking for every question to be answered is like asking someone to turn over their entire profitable CPA campaign. Put some effort in to it, "test", and figure out what works for you.

They don't answer ANYTHING. All they do is create the side flashes in the beginning of this season, and then explain that that's all not even real because they're dead. They explain NOTHING they built up over the 5 prior years other than the story of Jacob...which ended up being stupid because it was never fully explained.

The final season was supposed to "reveal all", and it revealed nothing.

The final episode was a 2 and a half hour reunion episode with the point being they're all dead anyway.

The writers admit to writing LOST on the go, and the actors had no idea what was going on and still have no idea what went on.

They explain how NOBODY dies except for Jack.

LOL @ people that are satisfied.

Nah, I'm really not a big enough fan of any show to hang out at forums and do research about it. I'm rarely that bored and don't feel it should be a requirement to enjoy and understand a tv show.

I might check out those links at some point but I would just hate to hear non-stop geek speculation and no solid answers.

It blows, don't waste your time. That is all.

Seriously...that's the end? Horrid fucking writing.

I was hoping for a better finale, but not surprised at all by how they ended it.

There are a shitload of unanswered questions obviously, but the only one I'm still curious about is what the whole Dharma initiative was about. It almost seems like the writers started regretting they even invented Dharma in the first seasons so tried to fade it out so they wouldn't have to touch the subject towards the end of this last season.

So anyone else catch that Mr. Eko was no where to be found in the finale? They only showed his hands as they baptized Claire's baby... the shot took careful editing to avoid his face.

He must have pissed off someone to be so consciously avoided during the finale.

You obviously missed the entire point of Lost. It was about the characters, not the stupid fucking island. I'm sick of seeing all this "the finale sucked" shit from people who wanted Carlton and Damon to walk out onto the TV Screen mid-episode with a whiteboard and start hand-feeding all the viewers the thuper-duper island secrets. It's not what the finale was about. It was about the characters.

It was an appropriate ending for the characters, and for the STORY. While I feel like there is no doubt some mystery left, and probably some logical time-line stuff which hurts my head way too much to try and process, the story of the people who we met over the last 6 years is over.

The finale was epic. If you missed it--either emotionally or intellectually--then sucks for you.

Wow, the whole of Lost was clearly a big fuck off waste of time. I feel like i've been completely mugged off by those stupid cunts who wrote it. Clearly those who liked it are slightly fucking stupid. Jeez, what's the point of all the questions being asked and all those moments that open the rabbit hole further to then say, "Actually, it's all a fucking dream," or some such bollocks?

The whole "story" was empty and lacking in anything after that last episode. Theres more holes than the bible. It's like a tissue paper colander. There's no substance, no use, nothing. It's devoid of quality and class. It's a cheap shot at the viewing public. It renders every last little minute totally pointless. It was a way of keeping us engrossed so they can earn advertising dollars.

It started so well, and looked like it would be epic, the end was soooooo bad, so weak, so childish and low IQ. It's just pathetic. Worst ending and series ever on account of that. I'm disgusted.

LOL to all of you who though the finale would be a fuckin History channel show explaining every quirk we've seen in 6 years.

Great finale

If the finale meant nothing to you, you obviously missed the whole POINT of Lost. See my above post, and then proceed back to watching some Michael Bay movies. I'm sure "Transformers 2" is more along your level.

It turns out lost was a giant rebill scam and we've all been had

We all were sold that if we signed on all these cool mysteries would be explained so we signed up and paid our rebill each week with our one hour of eyeballs and then it ends and they don't fucking deliver what they promised in their hype and marketing.

Lost was acai berries and the mystery answers were our fat loss. We take our lost pill but get none of the fat loss all we get is some weak ass antioxidants in the form of a character story for characters who aren't that great and who we don't really care about.
