Matt Cutsts just announced a new Google update

guys like I said on my thread it's too early to tell... obviously Google is in the process of reevaluating all EMDs so that's why a lot of them are out of the serps right now... let's wait at least a couple days before raising $50k to hire a hitman for Matt Cutts.

You guys must be building some shitty fucking sites.

I have an EMD, rather newish within the last 6 months that has hardly no content on it at all ( 3 pages, avg content per page is less then 100 words each ) and nothing but some relevant blog comment postings ( manual, not AA ) and I hit #1 ( had been #7 ) from the last update that just updated a few weeks ago.

I check that same EMD today and its still #1.

My thoughts are, this did hit some EMD's.. but only EMD's that fell into a certain filter. I have low content/thin content and my EMD is new, and I only used blog comments to rank it and most of my anchors were either:

1. The main KW I was going for
2. RAW URL

What's the exact match monthly search volume for this term? (if not exact at least a close number)

my highest quality domain with tons of authority and alot of unique high quality content got hit, it was ranked top 5 for about 10 keywords now its completely gone.

3 of my other emd's that only have 1 article on each and are really low quality didnt get affected at all

This seems to be a trend with myself and a lot of other people.

Our crappy EMDs are ranking fine still and our authority sites with tons of content are gone.

I'd only call authority sites to those that have been given a huge serps traffic naturally by google and which haven't had any link building done and traffic has increased slowly through the years.

In 5 years of positioning sites, I've only managed (still have) to do that with 2 sites out of a hundred I created.

You wait for what? Its an algo change which added a malus - its nearly instant over the whole SE where its already installed. The only exceptions are are results which are cached for what reason ever.

I bet there will be no more bigger ranking changes related to his except the non hit sites will sort out the new rankings. Penguin was also an instant hit - if you got hit you can see the date by the break in your stats and you can check by the google update timeline which update it was. It was a matter of hours, even minutes, not more.

the only REAL INTERESTING thing is:

1.) Is it an offsite calculated malus like penguin?
2.) or is it a real "algo change" of the normal SE ranking mechanism

Lets pray its the 2.) because then you can fix it somewhat good by changing your content/site.

If it like penguin you are fucked for month like you was by penguin because it will be updated only every few month - and no one knows
what the rules are then.

Remember all the people who survived the first penguin update which posted similiar posts asking why people did not the same as they.

Then the second update was rushing in...

false.. when penguin was launched my sites danced around the serps up and down for a couple days before going downhill throughout may and june and by august I had 0 traffic from Google. There is no such thing as an instant Google update trust me noob.

Auhority by google in terms of keys/phrases is what its ranked #1 by their main keyword and shows 6 to 8 sup pages as indented links too - that kind of #1 results which will fill on 1024x768 the whole screen beside the usual adsense add on the top.

I have an authority site ranking to a 21000k results 3 term keyword, where the EMD is the perfect & exactly match of the term its ranking.

Stands on #1 as usual.

I think the point is this:

This update kills what EMD was used to be in the past.

Now, the point is to "Brand" the EMD. If you site is not authority or brand for your EMD phrase AND your site is optimized to that key - then your doomed.

So, either: Be autority or brand for it OR hold the keyword relevancy low for the phrase to rank.

Anyway, this is a shitty update because it force people to do unnatural things like creating fake content & keys to protect the EMD keys.

Its not an update for the rankings - its an update against the BH & low quality SEO szene.

Anyway, as in every battle you will have innocent victims.

So, google is always harming itself a bit with this.
