I am a few hours East of Mtrl and we got some snow too. I am really enjoying it.

Theres art, and there's now. Art happened a long time ago, now it's pretentious douchebags who dismiss people by saying "Plus, you're classless if you have no appreciation for art" and jump on the latest craze of what you probably think is art. Go play in Soho.
Woah there child, were you born yesterday? That's what art is. It's best to just put up with it, and deal with it.
There is NEVER an immediate ROI and it never will operate like any normal business. It is completely hit or miss. Yes, there are tons of drugs involved, but there are just as many artists who do no drugs and still create remarkable works as there are freak shows who are seemingly wasting everyone's time and money.
I cannot comment on what money the Canadian government spends on these people, but I can assure you that it is better spent than a lot of what the US government spends (however, that is a different argument).
There are many things people will pass off as some sort of whimsical craze, but 20-30 years from now there are individuals who will stand out and their works will be priceless, fetching many millions in sotheby's and christies.
You will never gain the respect of any decent human being as long as you are wishing death upon creative people flocking to a city to try to find their inspiration or muse to bring more beauty into the world.
