My Theory On How to Fix the U.S. Prison System.

Well we do have the largest prison population in the world. Govt. does make a profit from taxes collected to keep housing prisoners though so a bigger population isn't a big problem to the govt. anyway. However they would make a bigger profit if they legalized just marijuana.

The last thing you need when going with your troops into a war zone is undisciplined soldiers who don't respect authority. This would be dangerous for everyone around, not only the enemy.

Also, if they came out with military training and an even stronger blood-lust they would be a nightmare to the civilian population.

I prefer the ideas above of shorter death row times and hamster wheels/exercise bikes for generating electricity :)

Oh and the outsourcing of the prison system to lower cost nations is a great idea, although I am not sure if it practical or against human rights due to family not being able to visit (although, who gives a fuck).

It's definitely the drug issue that is the big problem.

I believe efeezy's just trollin us here, he can't possibly be serious. Such a thing causes larger problems than the one it was meant to solve.

-Not to mention the whole security industry that controls the goverment profits wildly on every inmate we can put away. -The gov can't change in the face of their lobbying. Prisons will continue to be their profit farm at our expense until the day we stop all corporate lobbying with an amendment like the one mentioned here:

Can I get an AMEN!!!

A-Fucking-men

Eliminate the 15 year long death row sentences.

If you are convicted in a court of law by your peers of Capital Punishment:

you get 1 year to appeal. period

After that year if your appeals have failed, you go straight to the injection room

Great idea. Who cares if they got convicted on the back of crooked cops trying to get a collar and an overzealous prosecutor that would go to any length to make sure someone pays for a crime. Awesome idea.

Dude. No. The appeals process may take 12-16 months just to begin.

I do agree we should look into other options for victimless crimes. There is always a soup kitchen or a Red Cross division that could use some volunteers, forced or not. If they don't follow court ordered community service then throw them in jail. Sure, some will go to jail but I bet a lot of them will at least attempt to get the community service done so their ass isn't on the line later (literally or figuratively).

The government is outsourcing prison management to private corporations
Private corporations are lobbying for less gun control, longer sentences etc..

more prisoners = bigger profits
The number of prisoners will increase year after year, it's the logic of the system

Or we could get them to fight to the death for the entertainment of the masses. It would sure beat the shit out of X Factor.

I have a feeling it's been tried before somewhere though.

UK is moving towards no prison for drug offenders. About time too.

People who are a danger to the public, or hopeless recidivists should be in jail. Nobody else.

He's right to some degree, but the drug addict slavery program, which is what this guy seems to be proposing, isn't a real solution either.

Cops in Vancouver just tell you to put it out, just ridiculous to me that people get jail time for possession.

From what I've read/seen, it would be legal in Vancouver if it hadn't been for fierce pressure put on Canadian government by the US. I wish they had told US government to go fuck themselves.

Ha! They USED to be like this. As long as Harper has a say, they're all North Korea about it. I've heard countless 1 gram possession charges going to court lately. I know someone who got a DUI while SOBER because the cop claimed he SMELLED weed. No evidence. Nothing.

Or even better give them armored cars to race with..
