My Year Of "Work At Home" Reflection

dude, i feel the same way. i'm planning on getting a part-time job just to get some human interaction.

For starters get your ass in shape and stop eating mcdonalds breakfast. Eating crap like that regularly is a sure way to feel sluggish and unmotivated. Get a gym pass, find a trail, whatever just bust your ass for 30 minutes every morning.

If you start a new routine like this I guarantee you'll feel 10x better after a couple of days. Next, you need to wake up and realize where you live man! I dont know what the weathers been like down in SD recently but Im in Irvine all week and i cant even rock a thermal yet.

Southern california is the shit and you'd have to try really hard not to have fun down here. Go to some local bars, like Berto and Blu said start networking with local networks and affiliates. Just realize that its your decision to keep doing the same old shit every day and only you can decide to change everything up.

my work-at-home life sounds a lot like the OP -- minus the 10 years of $$ reserve!! Was a univ professor b4 and I've realized some structure was good. The last 2 years have shown me that I am lazy and need to up my discipline and somehow find a way of feeling rested so i can get out of bed w/some energy & drive...

Working at home isn't the problem.

Exercise is a great way to feel better and have a better outlook on life.

Like others have said pick up a hobby. Something like scuba diving.

Travel, it can be one of the most rewarding things you can do. Also you learn
how to interact with all kinds of people. Sounds you need to get busy with a
routine and you will be 1000x happier. Also sounds like you need some play.
If you haven't gotten any in a while go to Amsterdam....

Hmm. I quit my 9-5 job a month ago to do internet activities full time -- My bench has sky rocketed 40 pounds to 290, and I've lost 7 pounds.

^ This. Ever since I started my online adventures several months ago I actually gained strength, lost fat and put on muscle. Why? Because I had the initiative to start working out. I was also travelling despite being on a shoestring budget. But then again, perhaps some people are born with drive and initiative and some aren't.

Lifting replaces the socializing that id do at my 9-5. Working out keeps me almost normal but I completely understand the loneliness...

^ But not this. My social life never revolved around a 9-5 or anything else for that matter. My social life revolves around ME and I meet people that I want to when I want to.

Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired. ~Jules Renard

Take this advice people, learn from my mistakes. I've been doing this for a long time, and when I started out, I spent hours and hours working on AM, and that was fine for me I was 18 and just started college. My passion consumed me, I ate like shit, i slept like shit, and in return I was 315 pounds, depressed with a semi-successful business. I like the OP was now thinking "TIME TO CHANGE, BLA BLA BLA" GOt an office, got employees, got serious! we'll so i thought, i had the money on autopilot and was still waking up when sun went down, getting nothing done. I hired friends/family thinking that will change the pace(IT WILL NOT!!!!!, I promise you, meet people you don't know like at WF or conferences and talk to them, if you must, outsource a thing or two, get some one for a project or two.

Getting an Office is not another solution, it's fun at first, its not that much different. The most important thing you can do, Is make a starting and "quitting time" and everything you do after that is just extra.

It seemed to me, i couldn't get back in shape and happy with myself, until i had my business, friends, cars, money, room, taxes "were I wanted it". Don't Do THAT! Life doesn't work like that, and the sooner you realize it(most don't) the better you will be. Do what will better you now, and jump both feet it!

Just do it! -Nike :)
Infact OP, start southbeach the day after thanksgiving, keep your calories around 1500 a day, no sugar, no "bad" carbs. and start new organization and motivation techniques(some below)

You don't need all this office, employes, staff, bullshit, that's just another fucking excuse, Believe me! BUT! I will say hiring a secretary or 1 employee to keep you motivated isn't a bad thing if you have the money(this is just a kick start, and you will realize you don't need that much help, just resources) That way you learn and feel obligated to be on a set schedule. Or having a secretary/assitant to keep your fridge full, Kick your Ass, coffee etc... isn't a bad thing, but mainly kick your ass.

Freedom? Lol, this is as close as it gets, your just fucking lazy, and your admitting and venting about it, but do something about it man. don't wait for the perfect moment, start now. Block all those distractions out your life. Try it for a day, NO TV, NO WF, NO Distractions, Pretend the internet can only go to work related sites, and you die if you goto another site before 5 p.m. And After 5 p.m do whatever u like.

I've done about every stupid thing you could do in this business, and am finding more and more stupid things to do daily. Moving out my parents to quick, buying office, hiring employees, starting business with wrong partners, not lawyering up, wrong accountant, not cross testing enough, not tweaking campaigns enough etc, but nothing makes me more angry than be lazy, because i know it's nobodies fault but my own.

These are all things that I don't wish you end up doing, sorry for the vent, but I hate seeing people make the same mistakes I made, do I regret them, no? But I do regret not learning from mistakes sooner, and it was laziness that made that happen.

Cliffs: Discipline yourself, don't let yourself do whatever you like, dont rely on anything else. Don't wait for a perfect situation or time to better yourself, do it now!

And I'll leave you with some favorite quotes of mine. P.S. too tired to spell check

“It was character that got us out of bed, commitment that moved us into action, and discipline that enabled us to follow through.”

You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage - pleasantly, smilingly, nonapologetically - to say 'no' to other things. And the way to do that is by having a bigger 'yes' burning inside. The enemy of the 'best' is often the 'good.' ~Stephen Covey

The first and greatest victory is to conquer yourself; to be conquered by yourself is of all things most shameful and vile. ~Plato

OP, You need to travel.

No one who has seen the world can feel like this. It's just not possible. They're always planning their next trip to country X and it's fucking EXCITING.

Sounds like if you cut out the junkfood and TV you'll miss them just sitting there all day. What you need is a fundamental lifestyle change and here's how to do it properly:

First, read about Minimalism: It will teach you about a whole culture of people who are happy with less, not pinned down by the american lie, and travel around a lot because it's simply the most fun that can be had.

Here are my two favorite minimalist blogs: (There are thousands)

hxxp://www.farbeyondthestars.com
hxxp://www.ridiculouslyextraordinary.com

Second, buy some plane tickets and don't look back. Try seeing all the world heritage sites; that should keep you too busy to think about this whiny bored crap. If landscapes aren't your thing, try screwing a hottie in every country...

Seriously, these will change your life and do MORE than fix that problem you have.

Good luck to you.
Epic recommendation on farbeyondthestars.com!
This guy has structured his life almost exactly how I plan to start living mine

+rep!

I've found that structuring my day where there is some sort of physical activity makes a big difference - especially if I work out early in the morning. And it doesn't have to be an hour long session - just something to get my juices flowing.

I learned a long time ago that everyday in every moment we are choosing how we will spend our time. When I'm feeling closed in - I stop - get out of the house and do something different. It's a great cure for the "work at home blues."

I still have a day Job, so I cannot relate to you, but it is 9:38 AM on a Saturday, and I have already been working for the past 3 hours because I gotto party tonight ( I would rather work though, but well, obligations, friends, the boring stuff).

I have reached my monetary goals more than a year ago, but even today, I hardly watch TV, even if the TV is on sometimes, because I like to keep it on.
I work like crazy at "day job" too, and have always been a top performer. I work like crazy at home too... Just because it gives me a High. I feel like shit if I oversleep. I carry my laptop on my vacations. And I really enjoy it. I took week long breaks from Day job to see if I can work at Home... Surprisingly I can :) ... Not sure what will happen when I have kids... For now I don't have time to rest..

I could quit my day Job, but well, I stick for non-monetary reasons. I always dreamt of building enterprise apps, and that is what I manage on my Day job. I plan to invest my internet monies on "dream enterprise app" someday...

My Point it, some people get a High Working..

My only pet peeve right now seem to be WF lol... Back to work Amigos..

This morning I disregarded a female and made her drive me home at 730am in order to go swim 3000, then do today's crossfit, come home and work on my current campaign, and then watch football and get drunk at a potluck.

100%, 100% of the time. See you all in hell after my heart attack at 50, I don't care. This is the life. Mass intensity is much more fun than mass laziness

you are currently having a bad routine... that's obvious, i work from home and i can say it's great. maybe you need to do more excercise every day and stop eating junk food in order to start feeling slightly better...

i am in the same exact situation as the OP and i am resolving to get outta this rut...right after i eat this turkey and cheese hero for breakfast...lol

Ok, heres my typical "work at home schedule"

9AM - get up, shower have breakfast
10AM - go out for walk with my kid
11AM - go for a run / work out,
12PM lunch
1300 play with my kid some more
1400 do some work
1800 have dinner
2000 do some more work
2200 play computer games until i go to bed at around 0100

I have to say, I've been working from home for 10 years, living like this for 1 year (since my baby was born) and I think this is totally awesome. Sometimes I don't feel like working, so I just go out for a walk with my kid all day. Sometimes I go into London and have meetings all day. I might get an office at some point, just to see what it's like. Last time I did it it was kinda fun for a while.

It sounds to me like your life doesn't have any purpose right now, which is why you're miserable. You need purpose otherwise you go insane. I have two main focuses in my life: doing work which I love, and hanging out with my family. Those aren't any better or worse than any other purpose, but they are something.

Don't confuse working at home with being aimless.

Here's my work at home schedule ...

Here's the issue with most people....

life trains you to be a drone. From the day you're born you're told what to do. Go to school, do homework, take a test. Go to the next grade. Go to the next level of school. Then when you're done with that get a job and your boss tells you what to do.... We as a society are programmed to be drones.

It's up to you to no make your own life for yourself. Build goals, set milestones, etc....

You will always be unfulfilled and bored no matter how life good is if you aren't going anywhere. Learning, growing, adventuring and exploring helps us grow and in my opinion growing and becoming a better person is what gives you self esteem and self worth.

Get off the hamster wheel and make life difficult for yourself. Struggle, Grow and be fulfilled.

Just my 3 cents.

Have you looked into coworking facilities in your area? It's very cost effective and you can have the best of both worlds....
In case the concept is new here's a video (a WF member introduced me to the concept last summer....)

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2Wku5oOQ9g]YouTube - What is Affinity Lab?[/ame]

It's ideal for a lot of "solopreneurs"....

Also, have you thought about joining some skype channels with other entrepreneurs (need to network) or joining a mastermind group?

I would pursue the dating scene. Most people aren't meant to be alone. I think once you have someone else you need to invest more time into it wouldn't be so monotonous. Then you would probably find yourself having to schedule time for your campaigns. I'm working towards quitting my day job and look forward to spending my time at home with my wife. I realize a lot of the time I will still be tucked away in my office hashing out new ventures.
