if they suck you can always whoop their ass.

That's not a bad idea cuz I would probably get executed if I showed up in India and whooped some programmers ass.

I'm 24 and just went back to school to take some Linux and Windows networking classes at the community college. I'm almost done with that and I had been looking into some php and other web scripting classes, but the politics aren't worth dealing with. Everything requires Intro to Computer, Intro to the Web, Math prerequisites, etc. I would have to challenge all these classes or take them first.

I'm just gonna get a php book or two to get down the basics and then jump into it and practice as I read. I am a quick learner and don't really get intimidated by anything, but I worry I will buy the wrong book. I want something that starts out like a dummy guide, but doesn't treat you like a dummy once you know the basics.

Any suggestions?

I've got the marketing stuff down pretty well and I can build good looking landing pages, but I don't know enough php yet to add any real sophisticated functionality or stat tracking to my sites.

You really don't need to know any php to add tracking. Google Analytics is great, really easy and free. (I want to hate Google, but they do make such good stuff!)

If you are running ppc campaigns and want to track keywords, ad groups, etc this might be useful:

Great thread Mike, it's really good to see someone in your position freely giving out great advice and not trying to promote your own network, as I'm sure others might do.

I've got a small Copeac issue, which I've mentioned to Danielle but it's relevant to other people so I'll bring it up here. As I'm outside the US I can't see the merchants landing pages for US only offers, that's not really a problem as I can use a proxy or go direct to the merchants site without using the Copeac links.

I'm new to promoting CPL offers, so rather than invest time and money in creating a landing page/site (and introducing another variable) I was looking to first test a few different offers in the same niche that have merchant landing pages seemingly attractive to search engine traffic. I figure if I can get them to be profitable direct to merchant then building a landing site can only increase my ROI.

The problem: I had an Adwords campaign suspended for popups - I don't get any going directly to the merchants site or using the Copeac link in a proxy though. I spoke to Danielle, who was great and said she'd see about getting the popup removed - which seems like an incredible thing for a network to do for an affiliate that's not yet making them money! You probably don't need to go to this extent though. Is there anyway you could indicate where offers have popups? Or provide test links for each campaign that don't redirect non-US traffic? I think this would be useful for other affiliates outside the US as well.

Very impressed with what I've seen of your network so far, looking forward to working with you.

Sorry for such a long post!

Awesome. Thanks for the link. Really good information. I am going to save it and read it a few more times then implement some things.

I started using Google Analytics awhile back but never got too far into it. I will have to go back and read the tutorial to learn it inside out. Thanks again!

Still though- PHP would be a good skill to have. Anyone have any suggestions for books or sites to get started learning PHP?

The sites you are promoting don't have any pop ups. It's those Google morons in Ireland (or wherever the HQ for your region is located) that validate your links by visiting them directly, not going through some proxy. So then they get redirected to one of the garbage international offers (freepay, lotto, whatever) and then you get hit with the "Inaccurate Display URL/Pop Ups) suspension.

Solution? Find campaigns that don't have geo targeting set up (there are SOME) or use a landing page (you can use the email creative and an .info if you want/need to be cheap).

Ah - that makes sense. Cheers. Is it worth contacting them in your opinion and explaining that the Adwords campaign is US only?

I'd rather not put up a shit landing page as I think it would do more harm than good! I've got a reasonable domain, so using just the creatives would be simple - will that actually work though? Something like the creative above the fold and a bit of text below? I'm going to use php to echo the keywords to try to improve QS. (Though, I understand that might affect natural search placement - need to look into that more, but not too concerned for this site)

Google is a pain in the ass. If you let me know what offer youre having a problem with i can see what we can do, chances are the offer doesnt have pop ups but some google idiot thinks it does. We put a site on google that had a pop up 3 pages deep and google denied it.

As far as links with no geo targeting we cant do that because the geo targeting is a all or nothing type setting on campaigns, but i will keep this idea in mind and see if i can figure a work around

Thanks for the kind words on our network, hopefully we can keep this thread alive so i can help others

mkrongel, would you mind checking my landing page before i launch my first ppc campaign?

I actually called them about this yesterday, and they are having someone look into it, I can let you know what they come up with.

I just started reading this book:
Amazon.com: PHP and MySQL for Dynamic Web Sites: Visual QuickPro Guide (2nd Edition) (Visual QuickPro Guide): Books: Larry Ullman

I have no PHP experience and I am a retarded designer. I just wanted to learn php for the simple shit that I don't want to bother other people with. So far this book has been very good. Every lesson is straight and to the point.

What do think of the suggestion of using email creatives as a landing page (and little else)? My design skills aren't great and I don't want to pay out for one until I know I can get the right ROI from an offer. If I used, say just a large creative above the fold (inviting the user to click) what would be the rough percentage that would click? 80%? (complete guess).

and anyone know any places for good landing site templates?

(EDIT: Actually, I'll just search!)

If you need a page designed let us know we can do it for you if you are promoting our offers.

I'm about to start my first affiliate campaing but I have a question about the site. Is it better to have a minisite with 4 - 6 pages, a blog or just one single landing page? I plan to use PPC traffic.

Thanks mkrongel! :)

It really depends on what your target audience is looking for. if its a simple product then one page might be fine, if your promoting health insurance but focusing on information about diseases as a way to draw people in then you might want more content.

I see. So, as it's a simple offer I'll test with just one landing page and see how it works. If possible, could you give me an example of a landing page you like or you think that would convert well?

Thanks again!

Thanks! I'll probably order this today. I read a CSS visual quickstart guide awhile back and it was awesome. This book has perfect reviews, so I'm sure it's the same. I love the layout of these books.

Hi Mike!

I'm going to talk with you more in depth or someone your refer me to but I figured I would pose this questions for other forum readers to read and learn.

90% of my business is self gen for private mortgage companies I represent that are local here in So Cal. I took lead generation and added more levels to increase my income as I stated in other posts. When I get a lead, it comes to me, I qualify and verify and then send to a team that is on stand by for hot mortgage leads. Much like a hot lead transfer system. I get paid on the backend 45% of every loan that funds as a result of adding some steps and verifications in there and having an assistant process the loan. It has proven to be a great success hugely profitable.

The question is I want to monetize the turn downs by verbally referring or emailing, them to a landing page with a debt consol offer or cash advance offer. What do you think would be the best way to do this and what offers do you recommend?

One more question? Is there anyone monetizing a forum with copeac offers all over and is it successful?

I can monetize those rejected leads for you.. if you're willing to work on a similar deal (paid % on close), we've got a deal in principle I think. :)

I'm in Irvine, let's talk. Send me a PM please and we'll set up a time to chat, I'd prefer to keep my e-mail off the boards.
