I don't consider the taxes I pay a gift to the central state. I see it as nothing less than extortion. If I don't pay, I am fined and eventually jailed.

That said, Obama and his cronies are animals in the same way Bush and his cronies were animals. They deserve our disgust, but they are only doing what animals do. It is to those who give the central state more trust and credibility than it has earned that I cast a wary eye.

I havn't been really happy with government since I've been an adult. Bush sucked, but in a different way. Obama is just steam rolling us because he has the peoples ear. After all, a large portion of the country is poor and are the people he is catering too.
I'm already figuring exactly how much money I can afford to live on for next year. It's already too late this year, but as soon as I hit that number, I AM DONE FOR THE YEAR.
I won't be a part to "wealth redistribution" the way he rolls. I'm honestly surprised that on a forum where people are supposed to be making bank that there are so many people that agree with this bullshit.

Guess that's why the founding fathers wanted a Constitutional republic rather than a direct democracy.
To me, its not about wealth redistribution so much as its about priorities. Do I want my tax dollars going to fund illegal wars or stopping personal bankrupices resulting from a broken healthcare system.
I personally think that the healthcare problems in this country are the reason that many of our businesses are less competitive than those in other nations. I also think that innovation requires people to take chances, and fewer people are going to take those chances if they are worried that while they may have enough money to live on, if they get sick they are basically fucked.
I really think "wealth redistribution" (along with throwing around the term socialism) is a GROSS oversimplification of what it means to reprioritize, calculated by republicans to paint the current administration as a bunch of hippies. Spending money we don't have, which the last administration also did very well, is the EXACT SAME thing as increasing taxation as it results in reduction of personal wealth.
Bottom line is if a democrat is in office, health and education are getting money. If a republican is in office, defense is getting money. Regardless of who is in office, money is getting spent (the last guy proved that pretty well doubling our national debt) AND regardless of who is in office, your personal liberties are getting taken daily (again, patriot act).
At the end of the day, anyone who supported John McCain over Barack Obama really did not have the country's best interests at heart (hello Sarah Palin). Now Ron Paul, thats different matter, and I can at least respect the ideological consistency he presented.
This might be true from a bird's eye view. But, in the trenches, this too, becomes a gross oversimplification.
It has never been more important to drill home to every person we meet that the Democrat vs. Republican argument is a sham. That argument will never produce anything of long-term value. In fact, it obfuscates the issues.
Regarding health care, I don't think anybody who is logical will argue that our current system needs to be reformed. The only issue is how to do it.
It is odd that most people (not you conv3rsion, just others I meet) seem to have the impression that the "health care reform" argument is positioned between "pass Obama's plan" vs. "don't pass Obama's plan."
The question "what is the *best* way to reform the industry?" does not get any play. Instead, the populace is given one option to consider. There cannot be healthy debate about an issue unless *all* options are considered, not just those given us by the central state.
I realize everyone here knows this, but it's worth an occasional reminder.

A dear friend of mine has Chrons and I have watched her FIGHT for tests that are standard in other countries because her for profit health insurance company didn't feel it was needed.
As NPR (yes, I'm one of those) explained today, most people who are happy with there health insurance are health and havn't had to use it.
Truth is the health industry should not be profit driven. Why should humanity as a collective ensure that when ANYONE is sick they receive treatment? Because bring a greedy fuck will get you kicked in the ass by karma down the road.

That is, you cannot coerce others to action toward the provision of those things.
This is a core element of government mandated health care: coercing some to provide for others. In fact, positive rights are the base upon with welfare, public education, health insurance for low-income households, and similar programs are built.
