If you were looking for congrats, I would suggest a different direction for the thread. Something like "Hey guys, my wife of 5 years and I are having a kid. We both have degrees, jobs, are debt free and make good enough money that 1/2 of his/her college education is already saved up before labor even started."

Just something that doesn't scream "ooh shit, I'm not ready for this so I'm leaving and plan on stabbing people who give me shit" ... even if it was sarcasm.

Great post, my thoughts exactly. My daughter is now 1 and the only regret I have is that I didn't have kids a lot sooner. I never knew the meaning of "unconditional love" until I created life.

Unconditional love is bullshit.

My 4 year old regularly tells me he hates me. Then he tells his mom he hates her. Then he tells his 2-year-old brother that he hates him. He likes his 4-month old brother tho, or maybe he just realizes that telling an infant that you hate it doesn't really get much in the way of a reaction.

The only people he pretty much loves all the time is his maternal grandmother and his maternal grandfather.

I have, however, recently turned into "Cool dad" for whatever random reason. 4-year-old is totally emulating me, wants to hang out all the time and wants to watch me play computer games and so on. He is actually pretty good at BF2 and is really good at Left4Dead (which we don't let him play anymore).

It is kind of nice to be "Cool dad" now, but I'm sure it'll change sometime soon and I'll be in the doghouse again. Either way, I'm still the dad and what I say (or what mom says) goes.

*Edit* Well, you have a daughter. I have sons. Different species.
 
To anyone saying "Congrats" to dreamache -- pumping his penis in a vag isn't a major accomplishment.

mine are 4 and 0.5 and sleep is something that is considered a luxury in my home.
