I've been thinking about this a bit lately...

I am successful with PPC but now I don't really enjoy the process anymore, I did when I first started out...

Because of that I'm now considering to get into building authority sites, starting out with flipping to get some experience in that field. That's because I was a programmer before I got into the IM world and I always liked doing that. Building stuff and the challenges... But at the same time I also have my doubts. I mean, why give up something that's working right?

So, what are you doing? Are you listening to your wallet or your passion?

And what is your experience with this subject? I'm sure I'm not the only one that has or is experiencing it...

Honestly, I think you have to achieve the right balance. There is no point in working at something you don't enjoy, but at the same time you need to keep a decent bank balance.

There is absolutely no reason why you cannot do both, the great thing about developing sites is being able to outsource alot of the work, leaving you more time to build decent campaigns that may not even need too much maintenance, personally I enjoy developing sites more than doing PPC campaigns, mainly because if you hit gold with one money site your pretty much set.

Think of it this way: Bill Gates was a millionaire by the time Windows 3.11 (workgroup edition) was released. Why did he continue?

The pursuit of the new. The constant competition trying to open the veins in your throat, and the only think stopping them is your innovation. The promise of new and terrifying experiences.

But ultimately, he continued for the same reasons we continue: Because at the end of the day you will have done one of three things: Earned what you have, or took what you have, or BUILT what you have.

If you're feeling unchallenged, raise the bar, don't change the game.

My Passion = Profits

Exactly.

@OP: you can always take a break from PPC. Spend a couple of months trying new things, then come back refreshed. Or you may find a new thing (like flipping authority sites) and decide to stick with that.

My Passion = Profits

Same here.

I agree with Matt...take some time off to rejuvenate, or ideally, do both - PPC + your new endeavors. Either way you'll learn something.

I don't know about the rest of you, but sometimes I just marvel at all the ways one can make a living in this industry. There are so many possibilities.

Like promoting gay black midget porn.

I agree with Fuzzo in that you need to achieve the right balance. If PPC is making you good money, why stop? Seriously, why?

If you want to build authority sites and such, train a good friend or family member to watch over it for you.

I went through the same thing with an old job that I had before I came into IM. I was making real good money, but I hated my fucking job. What did I do? I quit ....and have made more money since, so it was a good decision.

Try splitting up your time. Can you do both?

My passion right now is having money in the bank, even if it means promoting gay midget black porn

I think all you guys are right: don't talk about and copy the black midget porn niche. We need to leave something for Jon. His gay webmaster forum isn't getting the right kind of traffic these days...

Seriously though... After reading the replies I think it's a mix bag of those things.

I'll take some time off to rejuvenate and clear up my mind.

You can do something along with PPC. Why not? If you don't want to move your earnings up right now, you can just float on the level you are on, it's not as hard as getting started and moving on.

i more so follow the money for right now..my passion is the challenge of making more
I love that I think that is me in a nutshell...

If you are doing good in something and want to do something else figure out a way to make it more self efficient. Teach other people how to do it and tell them they get X amount. Like a friend or family member.

The reason I like doing for me and working for myself is I feel much more accomplished. I mean I am not working for someone I do my own thing when and where I want.

I agree with Hazzan. It's Maslow's heirachy of needs. If you are well fed you move up the ladder to self actualization (if I remember it correctly). If you have enough money, take a break. Authority sites is a good idea. I hear it's the wave of the future with Google. There are also other options, it just depends on what you want to achieve.

LOL @ Maslow. Any idea how many drinks I had to consume to kill off the brain cells that contained Maslow's jibberish?

Lots.
