Pepper Spray !!

If I was sitting there arms locked with my bros and a cop calmly explained that he was about to pepperspray me, and asked if I understood, my response would be:

"I understand that:

A. You are my public servant, I pay your salary in my taxes.

B. I am peacefully sitting down while you are about to attack me.

C. There appear to be 42 or more different TV angles here the way everyone is holding up their iPhones and pointing them directly at you.

D. The First Amendment of the USA guarantees me the right to free peaceful speech, and I guarantee you that you are the one on the wrong side of the law. -I am a Law student here at this campus, afterall.

E. My lawyer will be contacting your boss soon, Officer Johnston with badge #389482."

-I wonder if such a response would have helped much?

The average IQ of cops is 104. Your speech would likely perplex them for days.

Actually, he'd be so confused he'd just punch you in the stomach and walk off out of frustration.

on the former picture it looks like police are already in the circle, how vcomes??

Interview with a pepper-sprayed UC Davis student - Boing Boing

OK, according to that, those in the top photo sat down on that area of the walkway because that is where police were leading people down as they arrested them. So the spraying had nothing to do with getting to the tents, but was because police didn't like their arrest path being blocked or something.

What a bunch of pussies. I'm half close to randomly beating cops for fun because all these losers won't.

When did people become such bitches?
agree they're pussies, but imo it's more disturbing that they weren't being aggressive and still got sprayed. if they attacked, the cops would have been vindicated.

one day protesters will start attacking though, and the police will start using tasers. maybe a business opportunity in taser-proof clothing...

I'm a little late to this thread, and don't have much to offer, but I can tell you all this... I've been pepper sprayed three fucking times, all direct hits to the face, and once on my hand and arm as well but that was my own fault (I sprayed someone in wind) so it doesn't really count.

The shit is not fun.

I am with BigWill on this one. Yes, if people react violently, it will kill the movement... But, when is enough enough?

And people don't have to shoot at cops to level this shit out... Why not just buy a shit ton of pepper spray and use it on the damn cops?

Ehh, regardless, the shit hurts... That one picture last week of the 84 year old woman just lit my rage on fucking fire. Made me think of my grandma, and pepper spraying my grandma = a death sentence.

These cops are fucking assholes.

If a bunch of citizens were out pepper spraying people, it would be all out fucking war... But because they are cops, it's ok? Fuck that. Cops are here to punish people that hurt others, whether financially or physically... They aren't here to bully citizens because they disagree with them.

Ahhh. Armchair judges and armchair protesters. Does anybody in this thread have any more experience than just watching YouTube? I don't.

But I do know that your rights end once you are infringing on the rights of others. So far I (with my handy-dandy youtube experience) have seen many examples of protesters pushing the limits, getting in the way of others, getting called on for it (maced, arrested), and then posting their video to youtube and whining. Peaceably assemble does not mean you can sit any place at any time for as long as you want. I interpret as you can sit any place at any time you want as long as it does not interfere with others, or pose a threat or public safety issues. Living in parks, crapping on cars, and damaging public property seems to be infringing on the rights of others. But hey what do I know. I am sure everybody here has more experience than me protesting.

1.) They are college students you dumb fuck.. not ghetto welfare queens. Why do people insist on associating any and all protesters with lazy, jobless, pieces of societal shit? You suggest they just "put up with it and get on"?.. You didn't have a daddy or some shit? Don't be an ignorant brainwashed cunt. It isn't even about money at this point. It is a fight for freedom. These kids know something is up.. they may be a bit ignorant, misinformed, and confused but people can feel our rights slipping away. Fuck the economy.. we will survive, but back the fuck up off our rights.. that's the discontent people are feeling whether they realize it or not.. and sooner or later they will realize it.

2.) Pathetic and bullying? This isn't some isolated incident with the only consequences being a few kids in the hospital for minor injuries. This is an escalation... a training of the American people to shut the fuck up, and accept the ever increasing assault on our society.

Hah! You've obviously not seen the protests springing up in the UK as well then, that contain mostly older people, and little or no students, you dumb fuck.
This isn't about a pressure on rights, this is about a bunch of whiny fucking pussies, with a huge entitlement mentality, and when they don't get what they want, they whine and sit in fucking circles.

Instead of moaning about shit, why don't they put forward some ideas or present some real fucking change. At the minute, all I see is circles full of little babies.

Now shut the fuck up, and go suck a dick.

I'm on two sides of this occupy bullshit.

1.) These people are lazy fucks. They sit there and complain, while everyone else just puts up and gets on with it. If you want money...earn it you fuckwits? Most of us are.

They're not after money.

Its annoying when people criticise these types of protests by bringing it back to themselves. "IVE got money and definitely have a job/make millions from my basement, so they should just shuddup and go make money!"

Theyre complaining about the inherent unfairness of taxpayers money being given to basically overpaid bureaucrats in banks who gambled other peoples money then said fuck you we'll take your tax dollars/pounds/euros when their business model failed. If your business fails - do you get bailed out?

Also the fact that the CEO (again not a risk taking entrepreneur, just a skilled administrator brought in to run things) are now paid 1000x what the average employee gets, rather than just 50x or 100x 25 years ago.

If you think these "lazy" people are complaining about wanting money (?) then you are wilfully misinterpreting or just have to relate everything back to how you make money rather than the issue.

...and here is where the OWS conversation degrades.

They are complaining about Wall Street.
They are complaining about overpaid CEOs
They are complaining about tuition that is too high.

Listen to 100 of the OWS speak and you will see that their complaints are far and wide. In summary they are just a bunch of people unhappy with a lot of things. And that is why a lot people are now getting tired of them. They have no message or central direction. They have no leadership. And they are letting people that want to cause riots and break crap (spray paint buildings, do drugs, die in parks) infiltrate their cause. I believe in one gathering the cops broke it up because they were seeing rifles appear in the OWS camp.

Pixel,

I myself am merely an 18 year old student. I don't have any money to speak of (teaching myself to copywrite etc). I literally earn less than 100 pounds a month (probably about 200-250 dollars). While I live with my mum, I barely take any money from her:

-She's redundant, learning to become a teacher
-I live in clothes that don't even fit me anymore
-I have shoes with holes in.
-I leave my hair to get cut once a month, if not two usually.

In essence, if I were to look at it logically, I am really one of the poorest people I know. I struggle even to find money for college stuff.

However, I don't moan about these things. I don't blame people for the money they make. I understand that the government, etc do take advantage of people, but sitting around in circles and protesting won't change much. I heard of a story of two college students taking the government to court because of rising uni fees.

THAT is doing something. I will struggle for the next few months, and happily do so, purely because I want something: I want to be wealthy, and I want to be a fantastic copywriter, one of the greats.

However, it takes work to do that, and effort, and I don't mind living like a homeless person until that works out for me. If I have to survive looking like shit, and being completely limited, then so be it.

I will come out on top, and without any complaining, charity, or moaning. To me, that is more important than most things. To give myself independence and to be completely responsible for my own situation and my own future is freeing beyond belief.

Someone should arm these people to the teeth, I'm ready to fulfill my destiny as Road Warrior. Let's do this thing.

The violent lashing back is right around the corner, when people see that they will be attacked regardless of what they do, they will choose to fight.

Pockets of violence might develop, but we're a long way from widespread "lashing back." People are too comfortable. They have too much to lose. For example, striking a cop is (I believe) a felony. Faced with the option of spending years behind bars (and coming out with a felony) and walking away after getting hit with pepper spray, most would choose the latter.

By contrast, the folks in Egypt feel they have less to lose (pics from here):

Nice clip, as it shows more. That's hardly police brutality. Here's police brutality:

The US has a LONG, LONG ways to go before it gets to the actual revolution stage, which will probably never happen.
