And also, it is total bullshit.

HAHAHAAHAHA!!

I heard somewhere that for every door that closes for those types celebs, several more open.. His "perceived value" just skyrocketed with the "in crowd" celebs, the R&B gang, the hipsters, young and powerful Hollywood, young web entrepreneurs, you name it.. Lots of folks, who'd otherwise not be interested in the young, white swimmer from suburbia, are now talking about him, reading about him, and learning more about him..

Imagine his new exposure, and the new line of sponsors from other markets (i.e. not cereal) that are going to line up to snatch up deals..

That $100mm will probably turn into 3-5xs that, not a bad ROI..

You might be right - God (Harry Potter for Turbolapp, lol ;) ) bless America, lol....

What other country can you go to jail (Martha Stewart, Paris Hilton, etc) and have your net worth go up....

Today, Michael Phelps was suspended for three months from competing. Also, Kellogg announced that they won't be renewing his sponsorship deal. That, and the media shitstorm. All because of a picture of him smoking pot.

In other news, 40 years ago, Ted Kennedy got drunk and drove off a bridge, killing a woman (who he left to drown and did not report until the following day). He's still a senator, and alcohol is still legal.

I guess that just means the goverment is better at marketing than kellogg.

There are pretty big differences between senators, goveners, presidents and athletes. Goverment officials have great connections, and not many teenagers aspire to be them. Parents dont want their kids to have to do anything with "illegal drug users" even if it is their first time to try it. So for him to even think about ruining the only thing he has going for himself by tarnishing his image and thats what hes getting multi million dollar contracts for is his fault. You have to get good at playing by the rules before you can ignore them all together.

I know if I was paying him for the right to be associated with his brand. I would drop him. Really doesnt matter how much I think marijuana should be legal. I would release, "From pothead to 8 gold medal winner." Maybe a supplement for pothead swimmers. Dont see how kellog can accomplish that.

Why doesnt he claim he was the victim of photographical hacking?

Obama admitted he likes to sit back with a beer and smoke a cigarette every once in while. Can we throw him out the white house?

I personally don't care, it's not a big deal. He still performed very well. I do understand Kellog's stand point though. I could see how if they kept sponsoring him after this it might piss off a lot of mothers and such that buy the cereal. Personally, I think the press should stay out of it. I see kids smoking pot every day, only differences instead of winning gold medals they pretty much waste their life away.

Just because he was so successful in the Olympics doesn't mean he should have to be punished by having to be perfect.

Subway said that they are sticking with Phelps even though he smoked weed. Probably because they knew that when millions of pot heads heard this they'd be like "Hey, Subway...that sounds pretty good!"

Phelps is getting what he deserves. First a DUI, and now being caught doing an illegal drug. We can debate over whether or not pot should be legalized, but for now it's illegal and when you're the golden boy Olympian, you are expected to not break the law. Phelps is (possibly) the greatest Olympian of all time, so he should expect big media coverage when he gets caught doing something wrong/illegal/stupid.

INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY

Nowhere in any of these pictures of Phelps and that ROOR do I see any indication that he is smoking Marijuana. I cannot see the substance he is smoking.

Until there's substantial evidence to prove that Phelps was smoking an illegal substance out of that bong I think this whole incident says more about our justice system(GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT) than it does about Phelps leisure habits.

I don't read news much so I dunno if he's confirmed if it was marijuana or if there are other pics I haven't seen(I googled :/) but uhhh yeah...

I'm also pretty sure there's absolutely no way to convict him of any criminal charges...I can walk up to a cop and say "HEY PIG I SMOKED SIX BLUNTS TO MY DOME YESTERDAY, I WAS STONED AS HELL." I'm pretty sure the most he can do with that information is search me due2 probable cause since I just said I had previously smoked an illegal substance.

Good luck phelps.

And that's all I've got to say about that. :stonedsmilie:
