Well found it on John Chow and saw Marcus Frind for the first time, geekiness to the max.

How can you have fun just running the same site for like 3 years, he ain't having fun with the site, he is having fun with the money ;)

So, the site looks crap, has standard adsense ads (advertising dating sites) and is very basic. Id this the formula for making big $$$ with Adsesne?
 
haha... They used YouTube as an example of a site thats bringing in tons of cash...
too bad they haven't had a profitable month yet (well short of the $1.65 billion one...)
 
I think it would be fun running a huge site. Although, I would hire a couple of people to take care of the mundane tasks. With that much money why would you not? I think he just wants to prove that one man alone can beat the giants of the industry, and I tip my hat to him. :)
 
the hardcore geeks are weird like that... I think it's odd that that big of a geek would "buy into the man" and run it on asp.net on M$ servers. It's also odd that with all the success, he's got such a small, lame office... all the other rooms in his house must be filled up by cash.

Well basically, yeah, if you ignore the crazy daring vision, awesome focus & discipline to keep developing it for years, patiently created userbase of a gazillion people and the technical wizardry to keep it all from falling apart...
 
He'll be laughing at all his detractors in a few years when he retires/sells off his site, and buys a place on some island and lives out the rest of his days laughing at us all! His new WoW character will be called "F_em_all". Hehe.

Doesn't he employ his girlfriend to do all the admin stuff? I thought that was the case anyway.
 
It's funny how people get mad that people with money don't spend it like they would spend it.

If he makes $300k/month, who gives a shit if he runs the site out of a trailer, sitting in a $5 plastic chair with an eMachine ontop of a stack of wooden crates, eating Ramen noodles and sipping Jolt Cola?

Not everyone who makes money has to SHOW IT to the world by buying a bunch of shit they don't care about.

Obviously Frind is somewhat of a minimalist, and that is probably part of the reason his PLAIN VANILLA website makes so much money.

No, lot's of targeted traffic = big money with adsense.
 
Wow 10million pageviews a day, nice. He could earn so much more from that site but that doesnt seem to be his motivation. Heh reading his blog he says mypace gets 1.5 billion pageviews a day, sicckk.

Ya seriously. Why the fuck would he hire any employees? He says most of the spam detection and shit is automated.

Automation > Employees.
