PR Update.. Went From 3 To 2

I started I guess what you'd call a "hobby" site last year (May of 2012); it's been going well and I've found some small ways to monetize it, mostly it's been just for my enjoyment though.

This was in late May, and when PR updated in early August the site was a PR3. This was without buying any links or doing anything shade whatsoever, so as you can imagine I was pretty psyched about this.

I've still kept things pretty clean ever since then, but I noticed today that it's gone from a 3 to 2.

Anyone ever had this happen, or understand why it would go down like this? I've done nothing but gain links since then. Many of mine come from blogrolls/sitewides, but in the niche I'm working in this is extremely common. It's not a very profitable niche in of itself, so a majority of the other sites within it will gladly add you to their blogroll or friends lists or whatever they have going just for asking.

Anyway, anyone else ever experience something like this?
 


Why do you care what your PR is, do you believe a higher PR results in more money?

Profit is the only thing you should be concerned about, everything else is just epeen.
 
Looks like you need more authority backlinks and social signals. Do you have all yor knowem accounts setup?

Also why are you worried about pagerank? As long as your traffic didn't drop your good to go. Pagerank is a dick measuring so SEOers can pat themselves on the back. It all comes down to revenue and profit. If that has not gone down, you're good in my book.

Yeah, Google probably dont like your site and graded it accordingly. Stop what youre doing right now bro, dont update the site, dont even look at it, just stop, find a new hobby
 
I had a site with PR6 a few years ago. Made about $1,000 a month selling text links. I think it is a PR2 or 3 now. The PR fell because I didn't care to work on linkbuilding for the site. All of the content is user generated and had some nice authority links because it is an authority in its niche. At the time, $1,000 a month wasn't enough money for me to keep working on the site (in hindsight, it was time to sell it).

Toolbar PR goes up, it goes down. It's not a precise enough metric to worry about unless you're selling backlinks. Then, it's EVERYTHING.
 
Without additional links, all PR is constantly going down for any given page. The reasonreason is that new pages are constantly being created. PR is a logarithmic measure, always remaining between 0-10. That means the bottom of the giant internet pyramid is constantly growing and generating new PR. If your site isn't gaining links, it's losing PR. If you dont obtain more links, you simply will not maintain your PR rating as the scale is constantly sliding backwards. And oh yeah, Ross is sexy.

Agreed. SERP rankings are way more important than PR authority will every be with respect to traffic and sales.

It's a good indicator of how old your site is, and perhaps how well your inbound marketing campaigns have been doing.

But that's it.
