Just quite smoking (again), I know there are some here that would ask for advice. I will lay out my plan for you. It seems counter productive, but I have quite multiple times in the past. I have taken up smoking in retarded or stupid situation each time. Basically for no real reason what soever (I blame it more on being young and stupid).

1. It helps if you have a reason to quit smoking (like a GF or family), it'll help you through the hard times. For me, myself is enough. I think it's discussing, and a waste of money.
2. Stop smoking, in fact I would over smoke some days just so you can get the edge of not smoking on the next day. This will be difficult, and can be counter productive. Yet any time you can create a scenario that you won't smoke that is a good first step.
3. Start not smoking one day at a time. You will probably be able to hold out for a day, but it's really a war of attrition. Give in for a cigarette for two in a day or two days. You can comfortably be down to 1 or 2 cigarettes a day in short order. This will really depend on how much you smoke. This last time I quite I was at 1/2 a pack a day, and it took me about 1-2 weeks to ween myself down to 1 or 2 cigarettes each day. This was with a few "battle days" in between. The "battle days" are basically hell days when you come off cigarettes, basically you don't smoke any - period, your body really doesn't like it. As you will realize at this point that even having 1 or 2 cigarettes a day will not release you of your feelings, but they will be less than you imagine. Gotta be strong. If going through a bit of hell won't keep you off cigarettes, well, then not much you can do.
4. Once you get down to 1 or 2 cigarettes a day it's time to make the final cut. It feels weird, seems not right. You have to stick with it!!! Basically the next few weeks you are just going to feel like you need a cigarette but at a pretty minor level. There is no secret to this, you just have to power through it, but the feelings should be fairly minor at this pint. Some people will get a high from beating this, I wish everyone did. It's the main time that you start reprogramming. You need to change your routines. Be strong and don't give up. Slowly work Alcohol back in and you'll be fine.

Thoughts by others? Or questions by the rest?

For example my typical cup of coffee was a dark french roast, but to alleviate the withdrawal you may want to use a light roast. Change it up for a few weeks, and once you're in you should be good to go. If ever offered a cigarette just tell them to fuck off.

Your next thread should be about how to START smoking again, since you also seem to have that mastered.

Stop/Pause/Start....same diff.

lol

I really can't be throwing stones though since I've been using/abusing Smokeless tobacco on/off/start/stop/pause/start for over 33 years now and YES....I still have all my teeth and gums!!

Correction, they took out my Wisdom teeth about 5 years ago and my bank account knows it!!

Lulz

Quitting is easy for some and very hard for others. My mom could start and stop smoking at will, and it took my father (and myself) about 5 years to quit.

If you're one of the people who has a tough time, here's what helped me:

I used the patch, and didn't try to 'cut down' leading up to it which really was just un-necessary torture in the past. Cutting down days were just as rough as the days after I quit by using the patch, so you might as well just jump on it.

Set a date, get a bunch of shit to munch on like candy, pretzels (i got those honey wheat twist pretzels, like 3 bags of them which i loved), and just sit in your room for a few days if you can and sweat it out.

The patch does not remove the craving, it just takes the edge off so you can sleep and don't want to throw your monitor through the wall.

The first 3 or so days suck royal dick, but after that it will get progressively better and better every day. You will get periodic strong cravings to smoke, but they ALWAYS pass so just chew some gum and wait it out.

Take things one day at a time and just remind yourself that you just need to make it through today and you'll be ok.

Sounds like you're definitely ready to quit which is key, so good luck to you man. Quitting smoking was one of the best things I ever did, and I'm a better person for it. You might not know it, but currently ALL your shit smells like smoke to non-smokers, and it's a big turn-off. Girls, even smokers, don't like dudes who smoke cause it tastes/smells like ass no matter what. Quitting will help your sleep, work, energy, appetite, taste of the food you eat, and if you're the type who likes to go to the gym, you won't be wasting your time anymore.

good luck bro.

Been there done that been of for 3 years, fell back on the wagon for 5 days a while back but quit as soon as my slimy cough came back. I say smoke until you feel like bag of rotten potatoes and you will quite easily...

EDIT: The key is to e honest to yourself about feeling like shit, because if you dont when it happens so will your addicted brain fuck you over ASAP that you have the cough or feel sick for some other reason....

IM talking about that nasty fucker that get you as soon as you wake up and have to go to the bathroom and cough up the good damn rainbow ;)

Ok, I'm not quite as drunk as I was a little while ago.

Keep in mind that when you quite smoking or chewing that you WILL cough more at first.

This is because the Silia in your throat will start to work again to move all that SLIME outta there. (Nicotine seems to paralyze those throat sweepers.) So, just deal with it for about a week or so. It will get better.

Nicotine also works as a Histomine which causes your sinuses to produce more THICK crap that doesn't need to be there.

If you also use Caffeine be sure to keep using it until you get past the tobacco addiction. Then tackle that as well.

I found that quitting the Mt.Dew was actaully harder than the Snuff.

I've been off both for up to a year. Then like an IDIOT something really GOOD would happen in my life and I would think, "Hey, if I get just one can and take ONLY one chew and throw the can away I'll be OK."

WRONG!!! About 4 hours after that ONE CHEW the withdrawls started all over again as if that YEAR without it had not even taken place.

They say it takes about 6 months for your bone marrow to replace every cell in your body which WILL wipe out the PHYSICAL addiction/cellular memory of the nicotine but the MENTAL BOND will still be there.

Fuck Pavlov and his DAMN DOGS!!!

LOL

The times that "I" have quit for any length of time I used a Peterson Pipe with tobacco in it that I would moisten with som JD or other Liquor.

I never lit the pipe, just let it dangle from my mouth and it gave both my hand and mouth something to do while going through the withdrawls. (I HATE gum and Sunflower seeds poke holes in my cheeks.)

Usually when I decide to quit I use the non-lit pipe for about two weeks and then I'm OK after that.

I would also suggest that you get yourself into a routine of BRUSHING your teeth like 5 or 6 time a day as well. It seems to help for some weird reason.

If you start working out regularly while quitting it will help with the weight gain thing and give you REAL energy instead of that false energy from the nicotine.

You might also want to use some of the products you've slung in the past as in start Whitening your teeth while you're quitting. Knowing that a smoke or chew will set that back can help as well.

For me, it was WEAKNESS and being CONTROLLED by some damn leaf!! If I didn't have it I would bite everyone's head off until I could get some.

To be tobacco free meant that "I" was in control and not some weak minded being that needed a LEAF to function.

I've got 3 boxes of the patches setting up on my computer desk now. (Phase 1 through 3.) I quit last year for about 6 months cold turkey. Both caffeine and nicotine. Then I got BUSY and succumbed to the path of least resistence to stay awake for 30 hours at a stretch by going BACK to the Mt. Dew and Chew.

My BAD!!

For over 30 years I've won some battles and lost some battles with both nicotine and cafeine but the war is not over yet.

To anyone looking to quit, all I can say is that it won't be easy, but it is VERY possible to do.

Personally, I'd just go cold turkey. No point in prolonging the agony of your body physically craving nicotine. It only takes 5 or 6 days for the vast majority of the physical cravings to dissipate anyway. During that initial period, just take lots of walks (if you have a dog, even better), take 8 showers a day, or whatever. It's pretty tough to light up when you're in the shower.

After the initial period, then it's just purely mental, and a matter of breaking the habit.

I was smoking for 6 years and I stopped 2 years ago. I woke up one day and said I am not smoking anymore. And I stopped. For no particular reason really... Just wanted to prove myself that I can stop because I can...

After that, two weeks of hell... I thought that I will never drink coffee again, lol... And I was nervous like shit... Yelling at my girlfriend for stupid reasons and things like that...

Then second week passed and it was like I never smoked in my life... Best thing I ever did...!

Just like I stopped drinking coffee few months ago... Just to see if I can, and how it will affect me...

Don't over think it guys, just STOP!

Good luck bros!

There's only one known easy way to quit, but it involves becoming a die hard football [soccer] fan and watching many, many games.

In all seriousness, Alan Carr's book was what helped me quit. I read that book and haven't had a fag in about 2 years. (Well, I've had a few drags when pissed, but hated it.)

I was smoking for 3 years good couple of years ago. It was always hard to give up. If you're going to reduce to 1 or 2 a day it won't help, just do it straight ahead. I tried patches but they didn't work. What worked was mints and I finally made it. Cigarettes are fucking disgusting.

I tried to quit 20 times over 6-7 years using every trick available- patches, e-cigs, gum, lozenges and even tried Zyban. I failed every time until I read [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Allen-Carrs-Easyway-Stop-Smoking/dp/0615482155/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1335627227&sr=1-1]The Easy Way to Stop Smoking[/ame] The Easy Way to Stop Smoking

Turns out my failure was because of mental addiction which is something I hadn't really considered before.

Self-hypnosis did the trick for me.

I just woke up one day and was like what cigarettes?

If it were only that easy? Right?

Quitting smoking is really complicated on so many levels. I think everyone's experience is different, that's obvious... But above all, if you have willpower you can accomplish a lot more in life.

Good luck bros!

I really don't want to quit smoking. I was going to but I don't like being forced to. I'll probably quit when they start tasting like real cigarettes again. (sinus problems)

Thanks for the tips though--I'll keep them in mind.

I really liked smoking and ive quit 3 times for multiples years at a time. Im almost at 2 years now. I just quit and kept busy. If you sit home all day you will never quit.

If you find it hard to "just quit" then get an ecig and start with a high level of nicotine, then taper down over a few months to the no-nicotine version and smoke that for as long as you like. It's not hard if you REALLY want to stop.

When my wife was pregnant I quit smoking cold turkey. Yes, I started back up later like a toolbag. I found that when I'm sober I have the will power to say no, but when I had a drink bam all that was gone and I was smoking again.

If you quit cold turkey the first couple of weeks will be a bitch, but after that you'll be okay.

Hard candy will be your friend. I went through enough to keep the manufactures of jolly ranchers in business for a life time.
