On the firing line
So, out of sheer boredom, I decided to update my LinkedIn profile. Actually, it was more like hiding most of it and telling "potential employers" to fuck off. Anyhow, I ended up writing way too much to fit into the Professional Summary, so rather than just waste it, I'll post it here. Feel free to bash, slam, flame, or whatever.

My LinkedIn Rant - The Full Version
My professional experience is no longer relevant. I work for myself, and make far more money than any employer has ever paid me.

I would like to take a moment to say "Thanks!" to some of the short-sighted employers of my past. Thank You to Netshops for laying me off in a "reorganization". Thank You to SalesGenie for firing me because they couldn't handle a four letter word sent to their star salesman in an email. I'm so glad I told that prick to fuck off. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

So, again, Thanks to past employers that have pushed me to step up my game and allowed me to say "FUCK YOU" to the corporate world.

BTW, if any of you Salesgenie people bother to read this, tell Rod Irwin, that after 9 months, I still haven't received my personal stuff. Not that I'm bitter. I was, but now, I don't really give a shit. If I had stayed at Salesgenie, I could have been making 6 figures per year in 5 - 10 years. Wow! That sucks. Do you have any idea how much money I would have lost if I stayed there? No, of course you don't. Maybe I should tell Travis to fuck off again, just to make sure I'm still fired. Sure would hate to get a phone call telling me I'm late for work and this was all just a dream.

Since I'm ranting, and BOY does it feel good, for all of you reading this (all 3 or 4 of you) get out while you can. There is not an employer on this Earth that will take care of you better than you can. Their interests don't lie in what's best for your family. Their interests are focused on what is best for the company, more specifically the C level executives of the company. Look at Enron, Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch, the automakers, etc, etc, ad infinitum. People that had millions in stock, stock options, pensions...GONE. Some of those employees may have worked for that company their entire lives and were looking forward to retirement and living the good life. Not going to happen now. Why? Imagine working for a company and when you go to bed on a Friday night your 20,000 shares are worth $15 each. Then waking up on Monday to find out that they are now worth $0.45 each. That's not security.

Security is working for yourself. Security is controlling your money. Security is knowing that when you go to bed, you won't wake up to an empty future. Security is having money, in your control, to pay for your kids' colleges. Security is diversification. Security is NOT working for someone that doesn't have your best interest at heart.

Only you control your future, unless you voluntarily give it up to someone else. If you want to trust that your employer will take care of you and your family, then stop reading this, because I can't help you . However, if you want to control your own destiny, then get out there and start failing. Yes, I said failing, because to be successful you have to fail a LOT. You should be happy when you fail at something, as long as you remain focused on the long term goal of independence. Why? Because it means you have gotten over one more hurdle, learned one more lesson. Every failure should be treated as a learning exercise. Everytime you fail at something, you learn what not to do. By knowing what not to do, it gets easier to focus on what you CAN do. It also teaches you how to minimize failures, and absorb them easier.

Everyday I fail at something. Everyday, I pick myself up again, and try not to repeat past mistakes. Everyday, I get one step closer to million dollar months. And everyday I ENJOY my "job" and my life. Can you say the same when you're rolling out of bed to the sound of a screaming alarm clock, knowing that when you get to work, the only entity that truly benefits from you being their is the employer? I doubt it.

The funny thing about working for yourself, and this won't appeal to the lazy people reading this, is you'll work harder and longer hours than you ever would for an employer. Many days, I get up around 7 am and go to bed at 2am, and work 12 - 16 of those hours. But I benefit from every minute I'm working, and my family benefits from it. I'm not selling my time for $15 an hour to Joe Corporate Hellhole, Inc.

Okay, Buh-bye!

Man, I could go on forever with that rant.

Another thing I just thought of that pisses me off: People talking about how fabulous their benefits package is. WTF is a benefits package? It's marketing, you boobs. The company is selling you on working for them by giving you a small health care incentive, or paid time off. FUCK YOU and your health care and vacations. You know what my health care is? Self insured. Why the hell would I want to give some fucking insurance company $6000 - 12,000 per year for health insurance? They're not insuring my health. I'm not going to magically be healthy because I paid them a lot of money. Nope, they're banking that I won't spend $6000 - 12,000 per year of theirs by getting sick or having surgeries. And you know, I don't spend that much. So, why should I let them have my money and collect interest off of it?

As for paid holidays and vacations, there is NO SUCH THING. They owe you that money and more for how hard they're raping you when you signed on to that job. My holidays, weekends and vacations are all paid. I make money 24 hours per day, 7 days a week whether I am glued to stats or not. It's a great feeling waking up and seeing that there was a traffic spike somewhere that drove an extra $500 before 7am. When's the last time your employer decided to just drop $500 into your bank account just for the hell of it? Yeah, didn't think so.

You know what makes me sad, people will read this, nod their heads, say "You're right, you are abso-fucking-lutely right" and not do a damn thing to improve their own situation.

Luckily, I think most of the members of WickedFire are doers and not lazy. Heed my advice people: Fail fast and fail hard, then pick yourself up and do it again. All of those failures will lead you to success in a big way. Don't believe me? Go back and read my posts from the beginning. I've done a lot of failing and plenty of it has been right here in public. I'm not ashamed of it, and I know I'll do stupid things in the future, lose some money, make bad calls, and that's okay. Stick around here long enough, and I'm sure you'll witness an epic fail by me sooner or later (Zippos anyone?).

A toast to the self employed at WF!

Light up a stoagie with this WF zippo using south park font...

Seriously, we need WF zippos.

uuh, million dollar months ... Are you in need of a bitch?

LOL!! Not there yet, but they are a coming. At least that's what I keep telling myself. My philosophy is if you overstate your goals, you'll still hit it big. So, even if I fall short and only manage to pull in $300,000 months, that's still pretty good. :D

One of the best inspirational posts in this section for a long time. And I'm sure, like you said, a lot of people will only nod, agree, but never take action. But for those of us who do take action - we know it is all worth it in the end.

I'm reading "The 4 hour work week" right now. It is so far somewhat whimsical in the way it is written, but it does have some strong food for thought closely similar to what you describe here.

Life is too short to sit behind a corporate desk all life and wait for your "reward" (retirement) when you're 65 and too old to do all the things you could have done when you were in your prime.

Amen Brother! Like Sam Goldwyn said, "The Harder I work, The Luckier I Get!"

AWESOME IMAGE! I agree with everything said. Another thing to realize is that the wage earner "mentality" exists on all levels. Yes you may have a BA from Dartmouth and an MBA from HBS but the fact of the matter is that there are people on this board who probably didn't finish high school let alone college who make just as much as that McKinsey or Goldman VP but work fewer hours, and have more fun doing it - from home!

$1M/month = less than 2,000 leads a day in a high end market (i.e. leads around $20/payout)!

1,667*20 = $33,340 in revenue per day
$33,420*30.5 days =$1,019,310
(I use 30.5 days to round out the shorter and longer months)
Q.E.D.

PS
See my sig for those high payouts (shameless plug, lol)

So tell me Mike, (or anyone) do you ever have those anxiety dreams where you are back at work and you don't know what's going on (cause you haven't been there in...years) and you can't figure out how you got there, and you're freakin miserable and then you wake up and go...whew!

Or is it just me?

Definitely not just you. I'm 4 years removed from bartending/serving and still have dreams of being in the weeds. I miss that shit sometimes.
