I don't see anyone doing referals anymore. It seems it requires such a high volume of affiliates under you in order to earn any decent numbers.

Moreover, most networks have the affiliates go direct, and incentivize them with higher payouts. I suppose that is why so many are creating networks.

I was thinking about referring people locally, though, with business cards or something. The big name bloggers have the web pretty much on lock with referals, but I was thinking of just creating a blog, and list out network referals - maybe provide other information to get them started - many wyas to go about this. Then, hand out business cards to all kinds of locals.

waste of time? am i living in the old days of affiliate marketing?

i've referred probably a dozen people to various affiliate networks over the years and i've gotten from the networks: a variety of parameters for me getting a percentage, a ton of excuses why i havn't seen any of them, and basically thats it. never seen a dime.

a few of the people i have referred in are doing well, every day, and consistently. i dont really have the time to fight the fight.

ive recently created my "own affiliate network" through hasoffers and contacted a few companies direct for the offers i want to run. networks like to make you think that this can't be done but its really quite easy, IF the volume is there, and remains steady, and quality is present.

as far as the blog, it is an idea that has been tried and tried again. if you are asking my personal opinion i think that there are so many other ways to make a buck online, esp that will actually get you paid out. plus, most networks are choosy with who they will accept. most networks really don't give a shit about anything other than making sure that you are not signing up just to send bad leads to them.

again, all my opinion.

creating a network requires capital; hasoffers is pricey.

edit: actually, now that I think about it, the pricing doesn't seem too bad.

your right its actually really not, from what i've seen so far, the risk comes when you start getting a pile of people under you, and getting screwed by the advertiser or your affiliate. im staying small, not accepting any affiliates and going to hopefully perfect the system.

you really only need 1or 2 big whales to work with you
the problem is making sure you get paid from the affiliate programs.
another issue i see with the network setups is...the people paying you dont actually own the offers, so they are not really in control....this is never a good thing
