Remote Car Starters?

This thread took off. A lot of car audio and performance tweakers on here. I used to sell car audio and alarms.

We sold Clifford and they were the best. Not so sure anymore as they were bought out. But their dealers tend to be good installers.

I would combine the starter with a good car alarm.

BTW they usually can only be installed in vehicles with automatic transmissions so that is a bit of an issue. I bet he has a modern truck so probably ok. They are not completely easy to install.

This will be attached to the starter, the ignition, and the fuel injection system and other portions of the car like the door locks.

I wouldnt do it unless he is like master of whatever car it is.

I would go with a combined car alarm and starter system like one of these:

Clifford - Security with Remote Start

You can search by zip code on that page for an installer. We almost never sold just the box. You also have to make a wiring harness to connect it to the car. Sometimes diodes, relays and other things need to be set up.

I actually looked in to these a while back but decided against it because I would end up doubling my gasoline consumption. I had a local shop quote me at 40 bucks for installation so it can't be too hard. I think there is a hidden demand for these.

That might be a good one for mythbusters. I've always heard that letting your car warm up before driving actually saves you gas. If true I guess it would depend on how far you're driving and how long it takes to warm up.

Are you serious? Oh noes, wouldn't want the empty car to get too cold  How economically and environmentally responsible.

What do you need an automatic car starter for Turbo? It's not like you're living in Edmonton, you live in Texas.

Cools the car off in the summer. It gets ungodly hot/humid in TX.

Yeah, I thought of this after I asked the question. I should know better living in the south of Spain but truth be told it takes all of 1 minute for modern AC to bring the cabin temp down so I still don't see it as a necessity at all.

I know that for most people the car is often going to idle in the drive for 10-20 minutes before they actually make it out the door so it's just adding to fuel usage and air pollution.

Didn't read the article but why would you want your car starting itself and using gas etc. unless you're planning on using it in the near future? Am I missing something...?

ya, you are.. like when I leave my dog in the car and want it to turn on and cool off if it happens to get above x degrees while im at/doing y. There could be other reasons as to why ud want it to turn on in certain cold temp situations as well

the point was that the alarm has a lot of extra features
