So, Russia Invaded Ukraine

Those of your familiar with the situation and politics of this, how far do you think Russia will go? Are they intending to try and annex the entire country, or just the Southeast?

My reasons for asking are slightly self serving. I have several contractors in Ukraine and some applicants to my current posts from the area. Will Russia go as far as Dnepropetrovsk? Cherkasy? Kiev? Odessa? Am I correct in assuming that Kharkiv and Donetsk are as good as annexed already? I feel bad asking this, and obviously I plan to stick with all my current guys, but I'm a little hesitant to hire people who live in places that are about to become a warzone.

Kharkov is not annexed, there are no pro-russian terrorists there, so it's peaceful.

Lugansk and Donetsk are the cities where the russian-sponsored terrorists took over.

Dnepropetrovsk is a fortress on the river with its own private army, and I wouldn't worry much about Cherkasy, Kiev and Odessa. <- I am here now :)

Seems like Russia is trying to slow down the anti-terrorist-operation that Ukrainian army is leading against the terrorists in the east. So Russia just invaded with their regular army and will do their best to prevent the Ukrainian army from finishing up what was left of the terrorists.

Is that video for real? That is a propaganda piece if I ever saw one. Just watch the body language of the participants. Guys smiling, and laughing as they're"plinking" around. It's interesting how you dont see any enemy, and no sense of urgency on any of the participants. Bottom line, I call Bullshit on that "Invasion" video. If indeed that's what it's supposed to be.

That's not an invasion video, it's a video of urban fighting in Ilovaisk.

Hopefully it gets resolved somehow soon though, or else sounds as though you guys may be in for a really shitty & cold winter without any gas.

So, when ukrainian army is killing civilians in Donetsk and Lugansk, then it is anti-terrorist action? But when those ''terrorist'' fight back then Russia is invading you and you cry to US for help?

First of all, dont lie about how terrorist took over cities in eastern Ukrain.Thats not true.
People in Donetsk and Lugansk dont want to accept ukraine government(that was elected illegally), and thats why they are attacked. They didnt kill no one, they just want country for themselves.

US and EU media propaganda is so strong, but even with that, normal people can see whats going on.

So, this title of thread is a lie.Russia send 3-4 tanks to help their people and you call that invade?

Son, if Russia really invaded Ukraine yesterday, Kiev would now been 90% dust.No doubt about that.

You should research that a bit better.

Your Prime Minister is saying you need probably another 5 billion cubic meters in gas, and are probably going to have to import some coal from outside of the country.

I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. I'm just going off what Reuters and stuff says, as I'm assume they do their homework. You guy have tons of reserves, but that's all currently in the form of shale.

jorarulit what's your take on all this? Obviously living in the middle of this shit gives you a more credible insight into what's really happening.

Some thoughts:

Our current president doesn't get all of the information from the front, most of it that he gets is heavily sugar coated so he can't react adequately and in timely manner to whats happening.

For example, some of the volunteer army divisions have been surrounded and have been waiting on reinforcements for 5 days now. There are about 120 people trying to hold Ilovaisk at the moment, but they only have light weapons and no heavy machines (tanks, artillery) to fight the russian tanks with.

Also the Ukrainian army doesn't get adequate tank + artillery support in general, due to pro-russian traitors in the government who take their sweet time sending the reinforcements to the front.

Some of the current generals who are leading the Ukrainian army must be shot or imprisoned asap due to their dumb ass decisions.

In general, putin can't afford to let his puppet-terrorists lose in this conflict, so he tries to stop their elimination by any means possible. He's gonna send his regular army, supply terrorists with weapons and tanks, anything in his power, really, to keep the situation in the east unstable.

There's more but I feel like I'll start rambling on about this stuff forever.

Thanks. I will fully admit my ignorance on this subject. One question. How will the outcome change your life? I assume that Russia is going to have to back down at some point. But lets say they dont.

I'm gonna go back to America :-D

However, for the people that live over here and have no other place to go - I have no idea. We'll have to wait and see.
