Soccer Is Fucking Gay

Ahh shit, you have nothing on the Pirates.

I mean when your fan base is finally like "fuck it they suck so bad we can't even watch it" then you hit rock bottom.

This was a picture from a game last year:

Do you really need to see more goals? Can't you appreciate the skill and excitement in the game itself, rather than only being interested in watching the ball cross the line?

The fact that there's less opportunity for goals makes the result more unpredictable. Eg USA can draw to England etc. It makes it more exciting because the outcome isn't pre-decided. The more goals there are the more opportunity there is for the better side to increase their lead, which is just boring.

Having a game which is 0-0 till the end is only boring if you can't appreciate the game and you don't really care who wins. If you care who wins then its tense as hell, and then when you do score the relief and europha is far greater.

I can't wait till Lacrosse gets bigger. Higher scoring game, tons of fun to watch.

Fastest growing sport in the USA baby.

Don't know why they just don't do it like rugby and get with the times. In rugby if the ref is unsure about something it goes to the camera judges who radio to him what actually happened.

I completely agree. If you do a youtube for that USA goal in the 90th + min. You'll find over a dozen different bar scenes where the people go absolutely crazy when the goal is finally scored. Like you said, the suspense adds to the game.

However, having a team that is used to watching USA basketball, they are of the mindset that a game can be won in the last minutes. Even if you are more than one goal behind. Most of the teams that are already out practically gave up in he last minutes of the game. Especially if they were more than one goal behind.

100 million US viewers of the World Cup 2006 Football matches. Expecting an increase this year, as they do every WC.

The most supporters who've travelled to South Africa to watch (some 40k) second only to the host nation in numbers.

Yeah, no one gives a shit about "soccer" in the US

I love how the "soccer" haters selectively ignore points such as these. People in the US are watching. Just because it's not you or your friends doesn't mean people don't enjoy it or care.

Also, as previously pointed out, a low scoring game doesn't equal a boring game. There have been several absolutely riveting matches this tournament that could have easily been 6-2 games but wound up 1-0 or 1-1 because of crossbars, posts, missed penalty kicks, and great saves.

To me it seems like a sign of immaturity that you need to see goals to enjoy watching a sport. Like a child who doesn't really understand what's going on but enjoys watching the ball hit the back of the net.

That's not accurate though because plenty of people enjoy baseball and hockey - both of which are nuanced, low scoring sports. Maybe not 0-0 low, but lower than basketball and football.

As long as there are no vuvuzela's soccer is legit. That goal by the US to win in stoppage time was probably one of the most entertaining moments in sports I can remember.

i like soccer but i have to say today's match between brazil vs portugal was FUCKING GAY. Definitely the LAZIEST soccer game i've seen in a while with ZERO effort from brazil's side. Sure they don't have to score cause both teams have qualified but i guess they just don't give a fuck about the people watching the game. I literally wanted to punch a hole through my tv. On the other hand i enjoyed the ivory coast vs korea match.

Football is gay, american football is gay, baseball is gay... all sports where men touch each other is gay. I don't get why people waste their time watching sports.

I'm sorry - but you must have a really horrible existence.

100 million US viewers of the World Cup 2006 Football matches.

That must be if you add together all the viewer counts for each match. The recent Super Bowl was the first one to top 100 million. If you add in the numbers for every other NFL playoff game, you might come up with a number higher than the population.

The NBA finals game 7 was around 28 million US viewers. As mentioned though, US vs. Algeria did over 8 million and would have been more if in the evening, so there are some people watching.

That must be if you add together all the viewer counts for each match.

Of course it was, and of course there are a lot of Americans watching the Superbowl. There are probably more Americans watching US football any given Sunday or Monday than any WC match. Those are then divided by the regional teams they support while the entire viewership from the US (minus the Mexicans and immigrants supporting their home countries) is watching the USA play.

When it comes down to it though, the US loves Football ("soccer"). Embrace it with open arms. Drink a pint, join the rest of the world in celebrations, and forget your bigotry for a moment.
